Jake Bugg - Hazey Jane Lyrics

What will happen in the morning when the world it gets so crowded that you can't look out your window in the morning.

What will happen in the evening in a forest when a weasel bites so sharply when you're not looking in the evening.

And all the friends that you once knew are left behind they kept you safe and so secure amongst the books and all the records of all your lifetime.

What will happen in the morning,
When the world it gets so crowded that you can't look out the window in the morning.

Take a little while to grow your brother's hair,
Take a little while to make your sister fair.
And now that the family is part of the chain
Take off your eyeshade start over again.

Let's sing a song for Hazey Jane,
She's back again once more.

Jake Bugg Hazey Jane Comments
  1. m.... h....

Good singing but not a patch on Nick's playing, no finger picking 😉

  2. K.... A....

Hi from the future this song still fucking rocks

  3. F.... M....

He sounds more like bob Dylan

  4. J.... M....

A cover version is not a mere reproduction. I have loved the music of Nick Drake for over 40 years since the age of 13, and have heard loads of people trying to simply replicate ND; it cannot be done. Congratulations to Jake Bugg for at least trying to make his own interpretation.

  5. P.... S....

Nice cover. Do as anybody know if there are tabs for this version? The original has too crazy of a tuning for me.

  6. B.... O....

    Fantastic!

  7. S.... ....

his voice just doesnt suit the song

  8. A.... F....

I know Nick Drake’s guitar style is very classical being intricate and precise, but Jake Bugg doesn’t need to exactly copy what nick drake does. The strum pattern is a bit off, but who cares, he’s trying to attain originality from doing a cover. I believe his guitar playing in this is still superb and he sings it well also. It’s just a whole different tone from nick Drake’s version but that’s okay. Have an open mind people.

  9. b.... ....

Blows my mind that young folk think this guy is good. He fucking sucks. Thats not opinion Its a fact. Never heard him do anything but ruin a good song. The fact that Nicks in his grave, never made any money from his own work and now this cunt is, really makes me mad. There are loads of amateur players on here that rinse this prick and there not famous. Its all gone tae fuck.

    b.... ....

Oh aye......and hes got a shit name to boot.

  10. J.... W....

sounds like a Norman Wisdom cover

    J.... W....

John,I love your sense of humour.

  11. J.... W....

This cover is awesome. Fuck all the naysayers

  12. T.... D....

amazing cover glad to see a young generation still interested in older music .

  13. p.... i....

me parece genial esta versión.sobre todo por que es una versión!

  14. J.... N....

IT'S GOT MY FUCKING NAME IN. hah. Pretends "it's all about you, baby"

    J.... N....

apologies for Mcfly invocation but hooray

  15. M.... ....

It's a cool cover, he's given his own take on the song which is great. However, he left out the best line in the song! The last line, "If songs were lines in a conversation, the situation would be fine". Very relevant to who Nick was.

  16. b.... ....

this sounds so bad. he ruined it :/

    b.... ....

becuzcoda he doesn't know how to properly strum

  17. S.... B....

THis is one of my favorite covers of all time. I cant believe it is getting such negative comments

    S.... B....

surina belk-gupta he's covering Nick Drake which is difficult to begin with. but this is pretty bad overall

    S.... B....

You what? Man this is an aweful cover. Thats not even my opinion its a stone cold fact.

  18. D.... S....

His guitar tone & playing is all over the place.

    D.... S....

Daniel Smith he just needs to work on his strumming and timing. the talent is there

  19. W.... ....

Geezus. Why do people think he's good? It's ok to point out that an artist has failed. That's part of the deal. This is an atrocity.

  20. O.... N....

Jake you're beautiful. Bless your soul. Your cover was greaaaattt.

  21. C.... ....

Esos que critican el cover diciendo que es malo mejor muéstrenme el suyo para ver si es mejor que el de Jake :3

  22. T.... ....

If you like Jake Bugg, check out TED DUCHAMP - TIME BOMBS, think you'll enjoy it, cheers!

  23. H.... M....

    my favorite cover

  24. S.... ....

Nice! Nick Drake is Nick Drake: a genius. This guy has real talent and he did a very good job here!

  25. K.... G....

have know of the legend nick drake for many years and I think jake bugg has done a awesome cover
think nick drake would appreciate it

  26. P.... S....

Its a hard song to cover, he did it pretty good. Big difference there is no feeling of Nick sensitivity in this version. Some people who cover have that feeling..Jake hasnt..

    P.... S....

why you gotta bring people down yo?

  27. J.... N....

    a good cover!

  28. J.... N....

    a good cover!

  29. I.... b....

If I didn't know who Nick Drake was before this would make me not want to listen to him. Sorry, I just think this is detrimental.

    I.... b....

Bugg covering his song is making young people go and look at the original artist. That can't be a bad thing weather you like this cover or not.

  30. C.... G....

Can someone please share the tab for how Jake plays this. I'm pretty sure the tuning is CGCFCE but I can't seem to match the capo.

  31. d.... ....

Why doesn't he play the whole song?

  32. a.... ....

can't this cunt fingerpick? shit cover

    a.... ....

P.S. You should listen to Nick Drakes lyrics more carefully. They may teach you something about humility.

    a.... ....

    Haaaa. Aye. Totally shite.

    a.... ....

Lol shut the fuck up @Jesse Knowler

    a.... ....

lol, Jesse tried to be clever but just sounded like a total embarrassment

    a.... ....

    for real lolol @astroboirap

  33. R.... ....

Good video just a shame you didn't have a decent camera to film it with.

  34. m.... a....

    Nice cover.

  35. a.... i....

Does anybody know the tuning of the guitar?

    a.... i....

    C G C F C E

    a.... i....

@Gabriel Riani Pafiadache I thought about that too but when I play it it sounds a little different. Maybe I'm wrong, thanks for the answer anyway.

  36. I.... A....

Stop criticizing everything! I think it is a very good cover, I am 20 years old and I didn't even knew who was Nick Drake until this, and I am starting to like him thanks to Jake. But who cares.
If you like it, enjoy it. if you don't, then don't listen to it.

    I.... A....

    Well said 👌👍

    I.... A....

If you've started listening to Nick Drake, you might eventually realise what a total amateur Bugg is . This is truly an awful interpretation!

    I.... A....

@Jim Barry I think he does know who Nick Drake is fella.

  37. M.... R....

astounding that somebody plays nick´s music again ,, and that guy seems a bit like nick

  38. C.... ....

    The worst cover ever

    C.... ....

@Evelyn Lewis I'm well aware of what KFC & other billion dollar fast food corporations do. the profile is purely for comical purposes and trolling fruitcakes like yourself. And whilst you're at it, how about a nice cup of shut the fuck up??

    C.... ....

As I said before there's no need to be rude but thanks for responding.

    C.... ....

@Evelyn Lewis Okay I apologise that was out out of order. On a serious note I probably will change my profile cos KFC sicken me. Take care and enjoy your life! (not being sarcastic).

    C.... ....

    @Colonel Sanders
     thanks u to

    C.... ....

    +odioalosartistas Wheres your version?

  39. W.... S....

He did a pretty good job, although I can't help but feel that it was too rushed.

  40. h.... ....

I love Nick Drake, I Hate Jake "Bug"...

    h.... ....

@HabeKeinMitleid It's badly performed, Jake's vocal is terribly affected, simple as that. He's one of the good guys though, & definitely capable of a lot better than this... but that's the nature of "off the cuff" recordings I suppose? :)

    h.... ....

I think it's great that a popular young artist is playing Drake's song. Also I think he's good at them so that helps.

    h.... ....

    hate is a motherfucker

    h.... ....

@Jimmy J. Rustle please do yourself a great favour and look him up. Honestly his music is fantastic. Jake bugg is great too thought I had better put that on the record lol.. Peace

    h.... ....

@flemwad my comment is very old. I love Nick Drake now lol

  41. M.... C....

great cover. i love nick drake but i kind of prefer this version as it doesnt have that annoying backing band

  42. a.... ....

I just can't get enough of this

  43. S.... S....

god ! this is so good !

  44. E.... A....

    Fangastic

  45. t.... w....

    lovely song

  46. A.... O....

Anyone know what type of guitar he's playing here? It's beautiful.

  47. b.... ....

Jake is a good guitarist, and a good singer, if you like his tone, and it's nice to know he's a fan of Nick Drake, but the hype and praise surrounding this fella is insane. There's so much mediocrity - with a capital 'M', lauded and venerated beyond belief these days. Listening to XFM, I made to believe that Jake Bugg is an absolute bloody genius. Sorry if I sound harsh, but, come on, he doesn't even fully write his own stuff like we'd made to believe. As you know, his best/better songs are ''co-written'' with Iain Archer... I struggle to see what all the fuss is about.

    b.... ....

The label requires all new artists to have a co-writer.  Archer got 30% for doing hardly anything.  They polish him up for recording reasons...but the songs are pure Jake.   All his songs are outstanding.   Musically and lyrically....as well as performed.   If you don't see the brilliance...then perhaps you don't recognize it when you see.  Why would he be hailed so?  Because there is a lot of mediocrity out there.  Jake is anything but mediocre.  If his music is not your taste that is one thing....but when you look at his work critically....it is, without a doubt, brilliant.  I wouldn't go so far as to say genius.  But the kid is the real deal.  The world needs more real music...not music entertainment showbiz auto tuned crap.

    b.... ....

Swept Away.  Who writes something like that at his age today?  NOBODY.  If Archer is so great...where are HIS awesome tunes?   Jake has something unique and of quality.  Mediocre doesn't even dwell in the same room as him.  If you want excellence and genuis....then you're talking the classical realm.  Mozart    Today's artists aren't even in an orbit anywhere near close to those guys.   Today's writing is largely redundant.  Jake brings a fresh perspective.   The music and the man are one.  You can't have one without the other.  They are mirrors of each other.  And what they reflect captivates us.

    b.... ....

The hype about the fact that Jake had help and so he shouldn't get so much credit with his songwriting is pure and utter BS. These are his words, his melodies and his phrasing.  Doing a little editing and rearranging is something every artist does..  Jake had no choice to have Archer come in and can't wait til he's able to tell them to take a hike.  Lennon had McCartney for God sakes.  For his age...the songs are brilliant.  Lyrically and melodically.

    b.... ....

    Shut up, he's imperfectly perfect.

    b.... ....

i assume he's not perfect, but specially for his age the guy is brilliant. the music's his yet, just some changes, but just the media shows him as the one who composes by himself. if you read some interviews and in some youtube vid too, they speak about also the others cowriters jake works with. i always remember that moment when they were recording shangri la and rick rubin wanted jake to make a change in a song about love and jake said no. they recorded actually like jake wanted and when the music was finished rick thought the song was brilliant.

  48. V.... ....

the bible black and reactionist, wlll come will come, nook can dour.

  49. V.... ....

    sing you have appostles kkk

  50. V.... ....

and the family. well well ilean, your house is dirty but your prayers are clean.  leonard cohen the end of all time.

  51. g.... ....

Nice to hear this proper song, it is taken out of the caves of forgetness.
The voice of Jake Bugg is just fit for the beautiful songs of the great Nick Drake.

  52. t.... ....

    Slaughtered it...

  53. t.... ....

    Slaughtered it...

  54. F.... G....

Wrong lyrics and wrong voice for this song

    F.... G....

    wrong comment

    F.... G....

I've never known one artist yet who was worth anything to not test waters.  He is learning....not everything will fit....but everything has something to teach.  Not crazy about this song whether Jake sings it or someone else.

    F.... G....

    no brain detected.

    F.... G....

    +Fernando Gonzales Chinga tu madre

  55. F.... F....

Thanks for doing this cover Jake! It is nice to know you love the music of Nick Drake too! ;)

  56. D.... P....

No where near as talented as Nick Drake. Yeah , its  a cover but it sucks! Sorry

    D.... P....

The cover sucks in your opinion! in my opinion I think its top class. Not as good as the original but to be fair no cover would be . nick drake was a cracking talent but I can only say that from the fact jake bugg covering this got me into his music... I would recommend you have a listen to his albums your view on his talent might change. For me personally I think he has more talent. vocally and guitar wise. as for lyrics he has not experienced what nick did in his life. so time can only tell if his lyrics will become as strong.. the main point is there is a 20 something year old kid  playing nick drake tunes. maybe real music is still alive

    D.... P....

@aidan lennon Sorry, but the fact that he's young doesn't redeem this cover. I'm in my early 20s and have adored Nick Drake since I was 18. I was introduced to him by a friend who was my age (and who, admittedly, already listened to Sandy Denny) and have a couple of friends who like him. Please don't act like it's some sort of rarity for people under 40 to appreciate music from the 60s and 70s, especially stellar music like Nick Drake's.

Those who like this cover, go and listen to Tobias Wilden and Gareth Dickson's (alias "Nicked Drake") covers of Nick Drake songs - or, indeed, most other acoustic covers on YT. They're much truer to the spirit of the original songs, IMO.

  57. .... ....

Aww You are the best singer ever!!!

  58. V.... ....

Clearly he does not understand the sentiments behind the original song, or does he bring a fresh perspective.  He has sucked all meaning and emotion from the song.  This song is a void to me.  The character of the song "hazy jane" is devoid of all personality.  When he sings lets sing a song for "hazy jane" i have no idea what sort of song to sing?

  59. K.... M....

He's such an amazing kid! <3

  60. C.... C....

this guy is beautiful in every sense of the word

  61. B.... D....

I hate when people say "this cover was nowhere near as good as original" or shit like that, it's not the point! They just want to play a fuckin song jake does not think he's nick drake calm down

  62. J.... G....

    eres mi inspiración Jake Bugg

  63. J.... B....

    OOOOH, niets tegen Jake ze!

  64. H.... C....

    exactly my words

  65. B.... K....

    the boy is smashing it!!!!!!

  66. a.... ....

completely agree with you, i want to do homework and stuff, and this guy just won't let me.

  67. E.... D....

great cover, but will never compare to nick drake

  68. d.... c....

i need the guitar tab for this

  69. N.... R....

Please, Jake, more of this. Nick Drake is a great inspiration.

  70. J.... W....

Och jake! please come live with me, we will get a nice studio where you can sing for me all day! I just love your voice, lyrics, just everything about your music!

  71. D.... B....

played a bit to fast for me, but still liked it

  72. R.... M....

    ♡♡♡

  73. .... S....

    I love this cover!

  74. D.... B....

I think he means in this modern era an 18 year old wants to play Nick Drake. It's a fresh sight to see.

  75. P.... ....

Fantastic cover. It's great that Jake is introducing old artists - especially Nick Drake - to younger audiences.

  76. .... S....

    Nice cover, good luck friend.

  77. R.... M....

    Love this

  78. K.... ....

Is a good cover but he has difficulty too imitate the off-tempo of the first verses. Great work though.

  79. J.... F....

    love it

  80. i.... ....

    perfect voice..

  81. t.... b....

Not to worry - you did the track some justice.

  82. c.... ....

one of the best nick drake covers I've seen. i really liked what you did with it. great job

  83. A.... V....

xD Said an Oasis fan. For your information, that dull hippy shit's guitar player was one of Drake's biggest influences, especially in terms of fingerstyle technique. In fact, I doubt that there's any folk fingerstyle guitar player, who's not been influenced (willingly or unwillingly) by John Renbourn.

Well, I'm tired of this conversation, goodbye. -_-

Oh, and nice cover, Jake Bugg, though you sing even worse than Dylan.

  84. f.... ....

Didn't mention Pentangle because, between you and, they're dull hippy shit.

  85. A.... V....

Don't make me laugh my socks off. I live in Armenia, yet I already knew Drake's music (incl. all the unofficial releases) by heart when I was 18. I have read bio books on him and I'm familiar with practically anything that can be found on the web about him. I can say the same about Danny's Pentangle. Btw, how strange to speak about him without mentioning that band. So, you see it's you who's obsessed with age and space restrictions (in an age of digitization!). You've grown way too old. xD

  86. f.... ....

If you knew what I meant you'd stop your pedantic drivel. You live in Armenia? With respect, how can you possibly know about British music & youth culture? That Danny Thompson, ND's bass player played with Sylvian who played with Fripp then Eno & Bowie. The Godfather of creative British music - influencing Joy Division, the Cure, Smiths. Johnny Marr, hero to Noel Gallagher, who was supported by Jake Bugg. Stop your age obsession & go play with your cats.

  87. A.... V....

:D Apparently dickheads stay dickheads regardless of their age.

  88. A.... V....

I know what you meant. You (and many others) just underestimate young people. Although, people have always been like that, well...

  89. f.... ....

    Lost in translation!
It's great that in 2013 an 18 year old is playing ND. Not everyone has heard of Nick so for a lad from Clifton, it's pretty special.

  90. A.... V....

Why? Drake was himself just 20 when he recorded his first album.

  91. l.... e....

    oh my god

  92. j.... ....

    bloody hell, hes so good

  93. K.... M....

Oh wow. Top work young man, Nick would love you.

  94. a.... ....

I knew it wasn't one of his song... It's too different from the others

  95. f.... ....

I'm just pleased an 18 year old wants to play Nick Drake songs. He's a special talent.
