Jackson, Wanda - Silver Threads And Golden Needles Lyrics

I don't want your lonely mansion
With a tear in every room
I just want the love you promised
Beneath the haloed moon

But you think I should be happy
With your money and your name
And pretend that I don't notice
While you play your cheatin' games

Silver threads and golden needles
Can't patch up this heart of mine
And I'll never drown my sorrows
In the warm glow of your wine

You can't buy my love with money
For I was never was that kind
Silver threads and golden needles
Can't patch up this heart of mine

I grew up in faded gingham
Where love is a sacred thang
You grew up in silk and satin
Where love's the passin' game

I know now, you never loved me
And I know I was a fool
To think your pride would let you
Live by the golden rule

Silver threads and golden needles
Can't patch up this heart of mine
And I'll never drown my sorrows
In the warm glow of your wine

You can't buy my love with money
For I was never was that kind
Silver threads and golden needles
Can't patch up this heart of mine

Jackson, Wanda Silver Threads And Golden Needles Comments
  1. J.... S....

This was good. I love the lyrics, "cain't patch this heart of mine" instead of "can't mend this heart of mind."

  2. a.... b....

    Awesome song 10

  3. B.... B....

I love Wanda, both as a country and rockabilly singer. She just sounds great no matter what she's singing.

  4. R.... E....

    The Qween of Rockabilly

  5. M.... R....

  6. f.... ....

  7. D.... ....

    Such a cute voice

  8. V.... J....

The first time I heard this was when my brother inlaw sang it...

  9. H.... H....

Wanda was so hot she could fry an egg on her g-spot

  10. D.... D....

I love this woman! Wanda Jackson should be mentioned in any conversation about the history of country music and it's legendary singers.

  11. T.... V....

Fun fact: This is noted as the first song Janis Joplin sang in a small town tavern called Threadgills where she got her start 💜

  12. t.... R....

il y a quand meme 31 fils de pute

  13. C.... R....

My favorite version of this song!

  14. b.... ....

To think that they wern't going to let her sing on the opry because she was wearing a dress without sleeves and today they want you to be half naked and make loud noises and they call that country. It's a disgrace to call it country music anymore.

    b.... ....

I think most would agree that country music has been long gone. It is all 'pop' music that is sung with country style voices.

  15. T.... K....

i love this song by wada!!!

  16. D.... M....

Silver Nickels and Golden Dimes -- Howard Stern!

  17. G.... R....

good version but I prefer Skeeter Davis.

    G.... R....

Me too. Love Skeeter Davis. 👍

  18. B.... P....

Sweet - wanda is superb. Still, Ronstadt's voice - especially live (many versions) makes this little tune smashing and important.

  19. C.... R....

Lots of versions of this song on YouTube. This is the BEST!

  20. D.... W....

She wasn't on my radar as a female country western singer. I don't know how I missed her all these years. I see now how many popular women singers trace their roots and success to her ground breaking work.

  21. h.... g....

I had a friend, just today, turn me on to Wanda Jackson.

    Good stuff!!!

    h.... g....

Agree. Not particularly fond of country music, but she was great,

Great rendition by Ms. Wanda. Rudy.

  24. e.... P....

I knew her when she was a Virgin

  25. M.... H....

    This is utterly beautiful !
    I love it !

  26. H.... ....

Did Skeeter Davis record this after ?

    H.... ....

Yes,not a patch on this one, though

    H.... ....

IN 62 THE SPRINGFIELDS VERSION WAS ONE OF THE EARLY UK HITS HERE IN THE STATES, THEN SKEETER DAVIS THE SAME YEAR FOLLOWED BY MANY MORE ARTISTS THROUGH THE YEARS THE ONES WHO WROTE IT MUST HAVE MADE OUT GOOD !....////

  27. R.... W....

Wonderful singing from Wanda. This song without the Southern twang and the wail just wouldn't be right no siree!

    R.... W....

That Southern twang is music to my ears. It means real authentic country music.

  28. R.... E....

Nobody sings this song better Wanda Jackson

    R.... E....

    correct

    R.... E....

I DO like Linda Ronstadt's version, though. (Linda's version is almost a completely different song, though.) And to anyone who thinks Loretta Lynn was a pioneer in country music: Wanda Jackson was a template for Loretta!

    R.... E....

    Totally agreed

  29. 7.... ....

    Money can`t buy love.

    7.... ....

    sure can't.

  30. a.... s....

  31. R.... E....

She sings country music the right way

  32. R.... E....

Dated Elvis Presley for a while

  33. R.... E....

The Queen of Rockabilly and Rock and Roll.

  34. N.... L....

Yodel From - Ariège in France to Switz

  35. F.... M....

Anyone who says they prefer the later copies do not understand country music.

    F.... M....

I like it with Tammy, Dolly, and Loretta. Maybe I don't understand country music the way you do, but I understand it my way.

    F.... M....

Says you. Who made you the Gd of country music?

    F.... M....

First time i heard this version and I was a bit taken aback at the slower groove but I like it.

    F.... M....

I never heard this rendition before

    F.... M....

There are a lot of great versions of this song. Why do you have to be so dogmatic? Can't we just enjoy the music?

  36. e.... ....

    I like Wanda.

  37. z.... ....

The country stars of yesterday knew of hard times and it sure comes thru in their songs. That makes their story telling thru songs so important

  38. S.... B....

Ralph Mooney on the steel. Mr. "Bakersfield Sound". Hands down the definitive version of this song.

  39. R.... E....

Wanda is the best in Rock and Roll and Rockabilly

  40. c.... ....

I like Wanda, but prefer the later versions by the Springfields and Linda Ronstadt.

  41. A.... M....

I love the twang in her voice. What a great singer.

    A.... M....

The difference between a Violin and a Fiddle: A Violin has 'strings', but a Fiddle has 'straayngs'!!

  42. 1.... ....

I remember this song when it first came out and always love it. When I hear it I remember my mother would play the guitar and sing this song to me. It brought back my love for my mother who was about her age at the time.

  43. G.... P....

    Linda canção.

  44. j.... ....

    You are welcome !

  46. T.... M....

    the springfields version rules

  47. J.... D....

+Creaky1964 I am a country singer and do not have a southern accent. Country music originated in Ireland during the famine - so, I sometimes think country singers should TRY an Irish accent.

    J.... D....

@Jamesy A. Davidson Music And how would I be doin' that, pray tell?

  48. T.... ....

This is a great song and a great singer... But Linda Ronstadt's version of it is kick-ass dynamite...

    T.... ....

Wanda Jackson sings it the best.

    T.... ....

TheFarmerfitz Agree. Linda in the late 60s and her later versions in the 70s remain my favorites- especially when she did it live. Ronstadt was superb and rockin' our hearts.

    T.... ....

    David (Western Traveler
Linda Ronstadt literally "screams" this song (way too loud!) ANY "original" song usually is the best version (In my opinion.)

    T.... ....

I'm wildly partial to Linda Ronstadt's renditions as well.

  49. F.... J....

Great song, who ever sings it... Thank you for uploading!

    F.... J....

I always thought the same thing about this song.

  50. e.... p....

She asked Elvis if Jesus would be alright with her playing this kind of music.

  51. t.... ....

Linda recorded this twice, and Skeeter Davis had a hit with it in the UK. I have 5 versions  total in my Ronstadt playlist. Thanks for uploading this 1st version!

  52. T.... G....

Always  loved  Country  Music,  and  always  loved  Wanda.  Remember  this  from  the  early  sixties, still  gives  me  the  shivers,  and  in  my opinion  this  song has  has  never  been  done  better.  Love  you,  Wanda.

  53. R.... B....

Wanda is one of the first Rockabilly outlaws from Bakersfield, Always like her songs

  54. J.... M....

Creaky1964, I moved to central Texas from the deep South (Alabama) in late 1991, and do you know I was laughed at? It was insulting. They wouldn't have laughed at someone from any other part of the country, or from another country, who had a accent. So what made it okay to laugh at mine??

    J.... M....

I'm sorry that happened. Texas has some pretty funny accents.

    J.... M....

@psychkoala From a Canadian from way north have to agree, been in Texas and in the east the magnolia accent is pervasive and kind of nice really.

    J.... M....

    Try being from S.C.

  55. W.... M....

Purest of country sentiments  "you can't buy my love with money for I never was that kind", This songs been done by everybody only Wanda did it early and its full of the hostility of a poor mountain  girl who has been stuck with  a rich cheat.

    W.... M....

Such marital crossing of social class is peculiar mostly to America. Country music invented cheatin (and drinkin) songs.

    W.... M....

Ay-yuh.  Hank and Patsy forever ours.

  56. e.... p....

    ohh so hot

  57. w.... ....

Wanda Was & still is a very beautiful woman,I remember watching her on the Red Foley show back in the 50"s she made my bones SIZZLE

  58. t.... f....

Wow ! You learn something every day. I'm 65 and I had never heard this version of this song; or I heard it and don't remember it ( I was 8 in '56 ) and bye the bye, my Mom hated Country Western Music.. I have always sang the first line. "I don't want your lonely mansion, chandeliers in every room." It may not be the original verse but, it's easier to sing if your a man. Not that I haven't shed a few tears over " lost love". What a great song ! Needles & Pines by Gene Vincent , nice tune too.

  59. s.... ....

Darnel Iya sang this.so much Feelings.tradition.love.memories.first Person to accept me

  60. r.... c....

    A R T BELL!!

  61. B.... F....

What is probably most touching about this the first recorded version was that a song written by a man would be so lovingly performed by a woman. The story it tells as I understand is true. It just is not exactly what everyone pictures when they hear Wanda, Dusty, Skeeter or Linda singing it. It was never about a cheating man. Surprise.

  62. J.... V....

She's definitely saying "chill." It was the Springfields version in 1962 where they changed it to "tear" in every room. They changed other lyrics here and there: "can't patch up this heart of mine" became "cannot mend this heart of mine"; "I'll never drown my sorrow" became "dare not drown my sorrow" in the Springfields version. But Wanda's is the original version.

    J.... V....

Good info. It was interesting listening to this original of this great song. Never heard of Wanda Jackson growing up as I was not that in to listening to country music. After listening to her songs,I'd say she was truly great.

  63. P.... H....

I believe she is sayin "tear" She has just down home beauty.

  64. P.... H....

Where are the GREAT country singers anymore. This is fantastic!

  65. P.... ....

    So true. Dusty is incomparable.

  66. P.... ....

I always thought it was a tear in every room but this sounds like a chill in every room. I'll be darned.

  67. d.... b....

reminds me of loretta lynn only better & prettier

  68. t.... ....

I have eeen looking for this version for a long time.
I like this original lyrics of Wanda Jackson best.
    Many thanks for uploading.

  69. n.... ....

There are some songs (Summertime,House of the rising sun, and others) that can't be done bad if you have a talent to perform them, some do it better than others but most do a pretty good job of it. This is one of them.

  70. w.... ....

    great song and pretty

  71. A.... ....

Long before Linda Ronstadt, Dolly, or others had a hit with this song, The Springfields, with Dusty Springfield singing the lead had the biggest hit in 1962, and I think the next recording after this original by Wanda Jackson. Shortly after The Springfields' recording, Skeeter Davis had a hit with it also. I like all of them, but Dusty's version set the standard for the rest.

  72. P.... ....

@DrOlds7298 Well then sir, your Mom, sister and wife were all very lovely ladies, if I may say so.

  73. D.... ....

I like this one much better than the more commonly heard versions. But what's amazing is that the pics at about 1:30 look like my(late)Mother when she was younger?.....and at 1:40,she looks like both my oldest sister when she was younger, and also a bit like my(late)first wife(only difference is her hair, and not even that much of one....the expression her face is exact! ) when we first met!!

  74. a.... ....

A song from my Child hood, Dad was a great Country and music fan.

  75. j.... ....

    Classic.

  76. c.... ....

    I hear Hank in it.

if I didn't know, i would have thought I was listening to Dolly Parton. i have not heard of Wanda Jackson, but I am not a country listener either.

  81. W.... W....

Frog have you thought of calling the CMA and asking them when Ms. Wanda Jackson will be inducted in the Hall of Fame. People who should not be in there are there now and she made such contribution to country music the way it should sound and be sung and she is not even mentioned these days.

  84. E.... ....

In FACT this song was not written by either Jack Rhodes nor Dick Reynolds, In fact this song was written by my wonderful and amazing aunt Pasty who never got the true credit for the song.

  85. f.... ....

@potluck42 In fact, the song was written by Jack Rhodes and Dick Reynolds.

  86. J.... H....

I believe this song was written by the late western movie star and war hero.AUDIE MURPHY
