Jackson Browne - Your Bright Baby Blues Lyrics
I'm sitting down by the highway
Down by that highway side
Everybody's going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess they've got a lot to do
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me baby
He can let me slide
'Cause I've been up and down this highway
Far as my eyes can see
No matter how fast I run
I can never seem to get away from me
No matter where I am
I can't help thinkin' I'm just a day away
Now I'm running home baby
Like a river to the sea
Baby if you can see me
Out across this wilderness
There's just one thing
I was hoping you might guess
Baby you can free me
All in the power of your sweet tenderness
I can see it in your eyes
You've got those bright baby blues
You don't see what you've got to gain
But you don't like to lose
You watch yourself from the sidelines
Like your life is a game you don't mind playing
To keep yourself amused
I don't mean to be cruel baby
But you're looking confused
Baby if you can hear me
Turn down your radio
There's just one thing
I want you to know
When you've been near me
I've felt the love stirring in my soul
It's so hard to come by
That feeling of peace
This friend of mine said
"Close your eyes, and try a few of these"
I thought I was flying like a bird
So far above my sorrow
But when I looked down
I was standing on my knees
Now I need someone to help me
Someone to help me please
Baby if you need me
Like I know I need you
There's just one thing
I'll ask you to do
Take my hand and lead me
To the hole in your garden wall
And pull me through

I feel my soul in this
Be pepared its 45 POUNDS it may sit out in the rain till your husband gets home!!
Who’s listening today? This song is brilliant. Certainly he is one of our most important songwriters.
at 14, knowing that kind of longing, sure I would encounter it. And here, at 56, still longing.
....and pull me through
My favorite from The Pretender.
Every line of this song...every, single, line of this song...my God.
I absolutely love this song.It never gets old.Jackson Browne is genius. As a teenager I had all his records. Now at 65 I'm still listening to him.Forever young Jackson.

Their lives are justified

And down this highway
Far as my eyes can see
No matter how fast I run
I can never seem
To get away from me

I keep listening to this on the train on the way home after a long days work, so relaxing. I look out of the train window at the magnificent sunsets whilst listening to this classic then I glance around the train and everyone is looking at their phone screens and a little sadness creeps in as I realise they don't know what the hell they're missing...
you watch yourself from the sideline...
One of my favorites by Mr. Brown
Great song on a good (but not great) album. His five great albums are his debut, For Everyman, Late For The Sky, Running On Empty, and I'm Alive. This album and others rate mostly good to fair. But even on his less than stellar albums, there's always a great song or two, even masterpieces. One of America's greatest songwriters of all time.
Reminds me of a certain someone from my past .
Great voice
Jackson is a poet♡
Its music like this that still gives hope
Sweet tenderness
Now I’m Running Home Babe, Like A River To The Sea 🙏
I miss your bright baby blues Steven Ray...everyday <3
Try to feel at ease.
I feel the love stirring in my soul when your in the same town as me my love. I LOVE YOU CLYDE.
Pray to God for me Baby he can let me slide!
Almost to every sentence in this beautiful song has a double meaning. I should say at least a double meaning. Jackson Browne was so skilled at this it's a shame more people can't see it. He's so powerful and his lyrics. By far the best songwriter I've ever heard.
He's one of the best EVER. No doubt.
I used to listen to this album over and over when it came out in the 70s. Well really this was true for all of Jackson Browne’s songs/albums. They are all so beautiful, musically and lyrically. This song moves me to tears every time I hear it. I think it was written around the time his first wife died by suicide. Their son was maybe 3 when it happened. To live through something like that is unimaginably difficult, but a singer/songwriter with Jackson’s gifts and heart (and a son to raise,) makes beauty from deep pain and shows us how to live on. And he certainly has-thank goodness!!
Vlrissolo I agree whole heartedly. This is very true of many if not most of Jackson’s songs. I always find people’s interpretations of the meanings very interesting. What are you getting in this song?
Lowell sings background on this also.
captured
Amazing song. Tracks like this are Exhibit A of why Jackson Browne merits a "Very Best of Collection," in addition to the standard Greatest Hits.

Thanks, Forrest! ♡
Thank you Forrest.
Forrest George Thanks.
And you add Lowell George as the frosting
Dear Ol' Dad
oh that slide.
Brilliant
Forrest George 💖 to you. Are you a musician, also?
Such a great song. I've always been partial to the solo acoustic version-- this took a little getting used to-- but it's a great in any form
Kathleen, I can so much relate to your loss. And am sorry for that. I have boxes of albums. I store them carefully, sleeve opening on the bottom, etc. Every so often have pulled one out and played, but from a quality perspective it just isn't there. I must have played the heck out of them. I am so grateful that this great music is now available now here...The mind is the best repository for all this great music. EdADrummer<><

Li Xu my GOD what a lyric
When you lose your album collection and then one night you find that your memories have gone HD... It is something that perhaps, only a woman who is addicted to great composers understands. Jackson, I have two things to say to you; " Hot Damn !"~Kathleen. Two more, Thank you!
This album has many great songs! More than one brought tears to my eyes. ;-)
blonde lebanese So true. I can’t listen to this song without tearing up. 💕💕
