Jackson Browne - For Everyman Lyrics
Everybody I talk to is ready to leave
With the light of the morning
They've seen the end coming down long enough to believe
That they've heard their last warning
Standing alone
And as the evening descends
I sit thinking 'bout Everyman
Seems like I've always been looking for some other place
To get it together
Where with a few of my friends I could give up the race
And maybe find something better
But all my fine dreams
Well thought out schemes to gain the motherland
Have all eventually come down to waiting for Everyman
Waiting here for Everyman-
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand
Waiting here for Everyman-
Don't ask me if he'll show - baby I don't know
Make it on your own if you think you can
Somewhere later on you'll have to take a stand
Then you're going to need a hand
Everybody's just waiting to hear from the one
Who can give them the answers
And lead them back to that place in the warmth of the sun
Where sweet childhood still dances
Who'll come along
And hold out that strong and gentle father's hand?
Long ago I heard someone say something 'bout Everyman
Waiting here for Everyman-
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand
I'm not trying to tell you that I've seen the plan
Turn and walk away if you think I am-
But don't think too badly of one who's left holding sand
He's just another dreamer, dreaming 'bout Everyman

Glen Frey (RIP) once said " I wish I could write songs like Jackson Brown".
And he used to write songs _with_ Jackson Browne!
Must have been excruciating!
Grandissimo JACKSON !!!!
This not the album version. So disappointed

Songwriters: Jackson Browne
This entire album is beyond amazing. Every. Single. Song.
Everybody's just waiting to hear from the one
Who can give them the answers
And lead them back to that place
In the warmth of the sun
Where sweet childhood still dances
Who'll come along
And hold out that strong
That gentle father's hand
Long ago I heard someone say
Something 'bout Everyman
Gets me every time.
My anthem, my life
No other musician of my lifetime has lyrics that cut so deep.
I have left instructions to play this at my funeral. It's so good but hopefully not for awhile. My favourite artist!
Dude, U got the lyrics somewhere?
Nobody does better than Jackson Browne
Who knew that we would be here. Make it on your own, if can. I don't know.
Played so many times I wore the Vinyl out. Along with Late for the Sky and the Pretender. Never getting music like this again.
*Great song always*
This was the first Jackson Browne song I heard. It gave me goosebumps then and still does. I have been a devoted fan since this first. Only Leonard Cohen and Bod Dylan match his lyrical depth, IMHO.
Steve Shoemaker me too
pull the sleeve out from the cover
....this is The Whole Magilla......Man's history, writ short & (incredibly) dear.....
.
.....it's ALL become a matter of 'waiting for everyman'....
I'm ready
And still I wait...
My favorite even since I was a kid.
Wonderful music. From a better time.
Yes, and actually about the same time that Jim Croce sang "TIME in a bottle". Those were the days (to borrow from Archie and Edith Bunker).
L'attentat de Nice est un événement erratique impossible à prévoir
Attentat de Nice : je suis triste et endeuillé
enjoy the music. fuck all politics
The man's music and message and poetry have been with me my entire adult life.
me too, what a trip
Me too since the 70s.
If you have lost your one and only listen to “Late for the Sky”. from that point on Jackson will be your dear friend, that’s why he’s mine . God bless
Thanks for uploading this. "Make it on your own, make it if you THINK you can..." Wow. Just, wow.... (y)
Love his music, hate his politics
Bite me.
How can you separate the two?
you can't
4:20 begin bliss..
Excellent song as most of Jackson Browne's albums are. Rock me on the water is right up there as well.
who cares about mother land
You don't own the rights to this music or that image. How dare you!

Folks, does it really get any better than this?! Thanks, JB.
Possibly only his first album. Doctor My Eyes was way ahead of its time.
I doubt it Mike B
So sad there is nothing that comes close to this nowadays
Rarely, if ever.
Beautiful song, good upload. I´ll link this in my folk music group on facebook, FolkSteam. Thanks.
Wonderful song ... is there anyone today writing songs that are even half as good?
+toppop100 No.
My songs are about half as good.
John Mayer or Ed Sheeran are the only ones who can touch your heart as deep as Jackson today! peace + love
Portugal. The Man.
It all boils down to going it alone!
Hope I'm not being repetitive with everyone in my life....

No complaint here, merely a big thanks!
Brilliant.
Who's complaining? Really?! Enjoy the music, people.
I love it very much.
Interesting Crosby mention here. "For Everyman" is Browne's response to Crosby's classic "Woodenships." Cool.
Bill Cosby is a rapists
@AfricanPride X
READ PROPERLY!
The comment was not about Bill Cosby.
It was related to a thing about David Crosby.
A different fucking man!
the earth is our mather
the sun is our father

Well thank you so much,,,,,,ahhh
One of my favorites. Dude hit the ground running with all this early stuff.
Awesome song
I always liked JB
I love this song so much. represents my life . play it at my graveside pls, not long now,.no names, better that way
This has been my all-time favourite song (by anyone) so thanks for uploading this! I first heard it in 1973 on its release in the UK.
Such a great, great album...
@jollysaintp ete browne has one of the most soothing voices ive ever heard
this was one hell of a great album & at the time I wasn't even into this type of music more of a Pink Floyd fan etc.
@nllleonard - Hey what are you up too??? lol just say hi - you see I figure you and I - among my friends would be the only ones to know this one - I hope you have not heard in a long time and like it as much as I do - wow - old memories and good ones and we are still waiting - no babe I don't know how long - happy new year - Bobby
@OppPaul I agree, it is like a continuation and I hope it can be included. Cheers and thanks to misterballs for posting...
Crosby's harmony is the icing on the cake missing in the live version. This and BEFORE THE DELUGE really capture Jackson for me.
Jackson Browne just understands. That's something all the best musicians have in common.
All time favorite-good job
Thanks very much - nothing beats the original version!
