Jackson, Alan - You've Been Lonesome, Too Lyrics

If your heart has known such pain
Until for death it's crying
Only to have the Lord refuse
Then you've been near my side

If in your heart somehow you know
You'll fail whate'er you do
Then you have walked a road of pain
Yes, you've been lonesome too

If you have had each joy of life
Destroyed and cast away
Then watch a heart that once knew love
Grow sadder day by day

If your soul is wilted like a rose
That's never felt the dew
You're traveling on the street of grief
Yes, you've been lonesome too

If for your wasted wicked life
Your soul cries out in shame
And you could live it all again
It'd never be the same

If you've cried "God, please bless the one
To whom I was untrue"
You've lived the life of regret
Yes, you've been lonesome too

If when the storms light up the skies
It seems you can't go on
Then from a vision your darling comes
You speak but she is gone

If then the tears flood down your cheeks
There's no one else for you
Then you can't ever hide from fate
Yes, you've been lonesome too

  6. D.... D....

    Great job Alan Jackson

  7. r.... ....

He sounds too stacatto, he needed to let his voice linger on a little bit. He cuts off too quick after each word and sounds awkward.

    r.... ....

Well being the expert you are you should go into the recording business. I'll assume you have successful career in the music industry since you are narcissistic enough to criticize Alan Jackson.

    r.... ....

Why don't you post your discography and then we can see if your comments are valid.

  8. l.... ....

Listen to that steel guitar...close your eyes and you can hear Hank singing this, wonderful tribute.

  19. M.... L....

like your profile photo,as I have one of EP on mine

  20. r.... ....

I like Jack White more than I like Alan Jackson but.... Saying that he doesn't hold a candle to Jack White..... I don't know about that. Jack White is my favorite musician but I respect others the same way you aparently do too.

  21. r.... ....

I think Jack White did great

  22. F.... K....

  23. J.... T....

Bob Dylan only did one song as did the rest of the artists. All of them did their own take on it, I feel bad for someone who calls the best songwriter of the 20th century a "shadow in the studio". This is a man who pioneered folk and rock music for almost five decades. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Alan Jackson, but he has not nearly contributed to the evolution of music the way Bo Dylan has. Oh not to mention Levon Helm and Jack White, both of which Alan Jackson doesn't hold a candle too.

  24. L.... ....

    Happy birthday Hank

  25. J.... J....

Alan Jackson is a country singer/ songwriter....probably the best of all time.

    J.... J....

YOU'RE darn right on that one Jim.

  26. R.... L....

Hank Williams been my hero for years, many, many, love his works! Alan thanks Bob is cool!!

  27. L.... W....

I remember when Hank had his first hit song, I never would have thought how popular he got after is death. I saw hank on stage in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1950.

    Don :-)

  28. J.... S....

glowy63..........After Alan, everything is down hill on the album. I wish Alan would do a Hank tribute album. If you do a Hank song then do it like Hank would have done it not like some sophisticated wanta be................as always this is just my opinion but the only opinion in my opinion that counts.........good to see that someone still knows what true country " hillbilly music " should sound like...............................

  29. G.... A....

@music1923 I so agree --nashville never gets it right all the way . This is the best I've heard.--See my comment below

  30. G.... A....

Alan J is like a Born Again Hank Williams --no one better to finish his songs ( Except maybe Bocephus ) --This song made me cry for Hank for His family and for Country Music--I can't wait to hear the rest of the album

  31. M.... ....

I bought the cd at the local store without making so much attention to it. And the first song is an amazing tune sang by the man who is the best country singer for years now with Stuart Duncan fiddling amazingly. No chance for Bob Dylan after that.

  32. C.... C....

Found this CD under the tree today, and can't get past the first track. Thanks for posting!

  33. R.... j....

The Lost Note Books of HANK WILLIAMS is easily the best album of 2011, I see myself listening to this for a long time. I listen to everybody from Pantera and the Jesus and Mary Chain to Dylan, Johnny Cash, Tori Amos, Sonic Youth and beyond-- this CD knocked my socks off! Get it.

  34. t.... ....

@trusttruth1985 I think the song was, for all intensive purposes, a finished. Between Dylan and Jackson as song writers I think Dylan has Jackson beat but Dylan's influence is very clear on all the other songs on the album nevermind it being the first sung, by the only living vocalist on Hanks plain of existence, so my logical conclusion is that the song was finished, but never recorded

  35. G.... ....

@Gilstrap2009 Upon further research Alan did finish this song himself although lyrically it was pretty complete. He did however create the melody. Bob's main input was picking the artists from what I have read. Not arguing, just telling you what I read!

  36. G.... ....

@trusttruth1985 I am pretty sure that I read that Alan finished this song himself and Dylan did not. I could be wrong on that, but I cannot hear one note of Dylan's influence in this song so I am convinced he didn't finish writing or arranging this one. Just about every other song on this album I would agree that he had his hands all over. And that explains why I like this one SO MUCH!

  37. t.... ....

@Rogermiler Yeah, that really caught me off guard.

  38. E.... B....

@trusttruth1985 I completely agree! I'm amazed it isn't Hank's melody, it sounds so genuine.

  39. t.... ....

@Rogermiler Actually all the songs on the tribute were written(note written, not recorded) by Hank Williams him self, or unfinished songs he wrote in which Bob Dylan had finished writing for the album. However Alan Jackson sung the song perfectly. Matching Hanks Vocals to a tea.

  40. j.... ....

@Gilstrap2009 Speak it! It is lost and will not be found!

  41. E.... B....

Brilliant version! I'm very impressed with Alan Jackson's imitation of Hank's melody-writing.

  42. E.... B....

@Gilstrap2009 Amen to that sir! Nashville needs to stop sucking up to Hollywood and start reviving the master that is Uncle Hank Sr.

  43. G.... ....

    @FFagundesK
I just mean "I LIKE". And I want to hear only this kind of music come out of Nashville. No more pop/rock/4 wheel drive/I'm a country boy crap!

  44. G.... ....

    @FFagundesK
Just means "I Like". And what I want to hear on radio, all day, every day.

  45. I.... C....

@SuperFenderfan very true! he sounds sooo much like his grandpa it gives me chills!!!

  46. G.... ....

damn! more. please. nashville. WakeTF up!

  47. R.... ....

get hank 3 to sing it then weel no what it what it woulda sounded like if hank were still alive

  48. R.... S....

Agingstoner, I don't agree with Dylan doing the whole album himself. I know he was heavily influenced by Hank and he should have kept it at that. His music and Hank's are as different as night and day. If he was alive during Hank's day and proceeded him on the same show, Hank would have stood backstage and said I'm going to bust my guitar over that guys head when he comes off stage because those people paid good money to see a show. They aren't even in the same ball park. I rest my case!!!!!

  49. A.... S....

@music1923 Dylan should have done the whole collection himself. His contribution is clearly the most innovative, and he also used the "traditional style". Jackson does a good job of imitating Hank. At my age, I'm tired of all imitations.

  50. R.... S....

If this song doesn't paint a vivid picture of heartbreak, you had better get an appointment with a Cardiologist so he can explain a broken heart. The best version of a song by a LIVING singer since George and He Stopped Loving Her Today...................hands down....I rest my case..................................

  51. L.... ....

This is one of those songs that during your first time hearing it, you want to sing along... but you can't, you've never heard it before. Also this is totally Sr. Style Much better than Jr.'s hot headed throw me togethers. Jr about 20 years ago was good, now he's not so much...

  52. R.... S....

Maybe this will be the start of playing traditional country on the radio. Because the sh#!* they currently play is just one more reason not to turn the radio on. Can you believe there are no drums on this recording............what a concept......................Best thing I=ve heard since listening to HANK himself........................

  53. F.... K....

@music1923 And there are still people do not like.. Damn!

  54. R.... S....

    @NietzschesFreund1

    R.... S....

you are doing great.keep it up baby.

  55. i.... ....

Great job by Alan Jackson! I love this song. Thanks to Hank for sharing his music with us even so long after his death. We'll love you forever Hank!

  56. R.... S....

I think they should have kept in the traditional style like Alan did. What a great tribute.........his song is to Hank. He should have done the entire collection. bob Dylan should have just been a shadow in the studio
