Jackson 5 - That's How Love Goes Lyrics

Girl you walk around,
With your head up in the sky,
Yes you do, now,
Cause you hurt so many before
And never had to cry, no

But you better stop, honey
And realize, yeah
That one day soon
You're gonna have to be penalized

OH...

[CHORUS]
That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears and run free
Happen to you, like it's happened to me, baby

That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears, and run free
It's gonna happen to you,
Just like it's happen to me, girl

Because you made me cry,
You think you're the baddest of them all
Yes you do, now
Well I hope I'm around, my dear
When he sets you free and you fall, yeah

Then you'll find it's not such a laugh
When tears run 'til you can't see, no no no
Your heartaches are gonna come
And so is your misery, yeah

[CHORUS]
That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears and run free
Happen to you,
Like it's happened to me, baby

That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears and run free
It's gonna happen to you,
Just like it's happen to me, girl

na, na, na, na, na, na,
na, na, na, na, na, na,
na, na, na, na, na, na,
Well, well, come on help me say it

[REPEAT CHORUS x 2]
That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears and run free
Happen to you,
Like it's happened to me, baby

[BRIDGE]

But let me tell you something...

Baby you better stop,
And take a real good look at yourself
'Cause when those heartaches strike
You're gonna wish you were somebody else

Oh, that smile that you're wearing
gonna turn to a frown yea
you find the one that you love
baby he's gonna put you down
na, na, na, na, na, na, na,

Oh baby, Oh baby, OH!!!

[REPEAT CHORUS x4]
That's how love goes
You gotta reap just what you sewn
You'll get those tears and run free
Happen to you,
Like it's happened to me, baby

  17. t.... ....

This BAss riff is HOTT! Jermaine could throw down on a BASS! dam! AND THE BOY CAN blow!!

  18. T.... G....

I've always loved this song. It's just a damn shame that as a bass player myself, I had to find out that after all these years later , Jermaine was ... " Not The Bass Player " on this or any of the J-5 Tracks.....!! The bass man that really was responsible for the J-5 tracks, his name was .... " Jamerson, James Jamerson . Jamerson played the bass on ALL of the J-5 tracks ....Only a ... " Musician " would hear it . I can play and sing that song, with no problem .... I wonder if ole' Jermaine can ...?!! For those of you that believed otherwise, .... I'm sorry. Sometimes, the .... " Truth Hurts " . Deal with it people .

    T.... G....

I call bs on you singing and playing this song no problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YsxFqIVa-0. Listen to this and get back to me. This is Jermaine singing live while playing bass.

    @RuMaN 425

    T.... G....

UMMM, Jermaine played live at all of their road performances, very well by the way.

    T.... G....

Tito, Jermaine, Johnny Jackson (no relation) their drummer and Ronnie Rancifer their pianist not only auditioned for Motown playing their actual instruments, they performed live EVERY TIME. They didn’t play on the albums because there was really no reason to. Recording a song costs a lot of money and even though they could play, who would you rather have record a track and do it in as minimal time possible? A bunch of 15 and 16 year old kids, or a world class in house session band; The Funk Brothers? It makes economical sense, for reasons I just explained, you don’t have laws to worry about, if it came to dealing with long studio sessions plus it would sound A LOT better being played by professional musicians who’ve been doing it for years.

Having said that, the instrumentalists in The Jackson 5 were fine musicians played very well and were better than a lot of other popular artists when you factor how young they were.

In short. Don’t talk what you don’t know.

    T.... G....

J.J. played on some J5 songs:(not all songs)

    Can You Remember
Standing In The Shadows Of Love
    I've Changed
    Chained
    Who's Loving You
    I Know I'm Losing You
    Born To Love You
The True Love Can Be Beautiful
Never Had A Dream Come True
    Darling Dear

Of course, J.J. did one of the greatest plays on this Jermaine't number.

and there's no proof, but you can tell if you just listen to it.

  19. E.... ....

A friend of mines grandfather knew Tito Jackson personally when he was a boy and was good friends with him. It puts a smile to my face when I realize that he must have met all of the other Jackson’s (Michael and Jermaine included) and spoke to all of them.

  20. S.... ....

Does anyone know who played bass on this? Was it James Jamerson? Sounds very much like his style but I'm not sure if he actually played on this album or not

    S.... ....

in the studio yes it was James Jamerson
    LIVE it was Jermaine

    S.... ....

Signalsoldier it was either Tony Newton or Ron Carter around this time Jamerson was barely around since Motown moved

    S.... ....

    probably

  21. M.... J....

I like this!! Michael's back up taking the spot light. and the bass is running all over the place in the song.

  22. A.... S....

    Ilike this song😍

  31. T.... T....

    The live version way better

  32. C.... D....

You all have to realize The Jacksons left Motown because Berry Gordy wouldn't allow them creative control...They wanted to write and produce their own music. Stevie Wonder almost left Motown for the same reason when he turned 21 years of age...Thank God Berry gave in to him.

    C.... D....

+Charles Drake But HE gave it Jermaine.

    C.... D....

Charles Drake You would think he would have been smart enough to give it to Michael. He was too good to ignore

    C.... D....

@Uncle Funky D. Gave what to jermaine

  33. I.... W....

It's been a long time sine I heard you're in good hands now

  34. L.... S....

The Jackson Five are SUPER FINE NO MATTER THE ATTIRE!!!! They are artist an can wear whatever the hell they like.

  35. L.... S....

This is my doggone song!!! J-5 dance routines are the best,

  36. I.... M....

    Jermaine is amazing! :D

  37. m.... ....

We have really taken a big step back from those days..... to todays Jay-Z.

  38. L.... J....

All the brothers are handsome indeed but I have to disagree with you when you state that Michael was up to age 14....Michael is still handsome because the beauty in him radiates outwardly. You can't fault the man for his skin condition.

  39. s.... ....

Randy, Jermaine, and Jackie were so handsome when they were young. Michael was too up until age 14.

  40. s.... ....

    proboscis

  41. s.... ....

Jermaine's voice was so beautiful. You're right, if Jermaine never left the group the Destiny and Triumph albums would have been even more greater than it already were. But you have to see it this way, Jermaine didn't leave the group, the group left the record company and Jermaine stayed. It wasn't Jermaine making any changes, he remained the same, the group is the one who changed by going to another record company.

    s.... ....

True , but Jermaine had less success without them than they did without him. He actually planned to join the Triumph tour in 1981 , but didn't want to play bass and instead be more featured. More featured when you have Michael Jackson in your group! Was he kidding?

    s.... ....

@kenj280 where did you learn he planned to be on triumph tour?

    s.... ....

are u kidding me? u serious? u don't choose a company over ur family.

  42. T.... ....

What? No Lets Get Serious? We wouldn't have "Castles of Sand" or Do What you do, or "Don't Take it Personal" not to mention no duets with the late Whitney Houston! Jermaine was one of the last Soul artists. I'm glad he remained at Motown, Epic would have just buried him! He would have ended up like Randy and Marlon Jackson! Motown was the lessor of two evils!

  43. s.... ....

@deebastard77 i agree totally with you. jermaine has been and was totally under rated as an artist and a muscian. and i like those suits

  44. C.... ....

Jermaine's voice was very sultry and soulful. I hate when people do not give Jermaine the credit for his contribution to the J5, I wish he never left, just imagine how much better the Destiny and Triumph albums would have been and they were already wonderful especially Triumph.

    C.... ....

Crowdfund77 he was I loved him

    C.... ....

Crowdfund77 - he didn’t leave, the other bros left motown, cause berry kept ripping them off, just like he did with other artist. Jermaine couldn’t leave cause of his contract still with motown. When it was up, he flew to arista records so fast

  45. e.... ....

I give them all credit for having the bravery to wear those suits in public.

    e.... ....

those clothes were "groovy" in those days. You may be too young to understand. They didnt have 'saggin' back in the day.

    e.... ....

no they did but saggin was reserved only for the plumbers and not everybody else and to be fair, a lot of this generation wears clothes that are much worse..i.e. Men wearing Girl pants...ON PURPOSE!!

  46. B.... S....

    lovely Randy and great Jermaine<3<3<3<3<3<3
