Jackson 5 - Can You Remember Lyrics

Can you remember (can you remember)
When we were babies (babies)
We were always together
When we were in kindergarten (kindergarten)

But now that you are grown
So girl you left me all alone
And you know I'll never find
No one to call my own
So girl, I love you
Don't you know I love you (don't you know I love you)

(I sure do, like for you)
Like for you (to remember if you can)
Hey, can you remember
(the time we had and the time we shared)
And the time we shared
(sitting together in the grass)
For the grass there

Can you remember (can you remember)
When we were babies (babies)
We were always together
And our love had no end (had no end)

The sunny skies are blue
So girl, you know that I love you
And I'll always promise you
That this is what I'll do
So girl, I love you, I love you
Don't you know I love you

(I sure do, like for you)
Like for you (to remember if you can)
Hey, can you remember
(the time we had and the time we shared)
And the time we shared
(sitting together in the grass)
Can you remember (I sure do, like for you)
Like for you (to remember if you can)
The time we had (the time we had)
And the time we shared (and the time we shared)
We should've never left playing in the grass

Besides the J5 vocals, that bass guitar and those Major 7th string line chords and guitar riffs go right to my soul. We will NEVER know music like this again in our lifetime.

  10. m.... s....

This is a very nostalgic song, which goes unoticed on the Jackson 5's first album. It never fails to have me think back to those innocent days of yesteryear.
It is my second favorite song on the album, of course after, "I Want You Back".
What also goes unoticed in this song is the BASS-LINE!!!...The bass player throughout the entire song is jamming!

This is very good but I like the version by an unknown artist known as Debra even better though I am not sure if her version predates or postdates this one. My favorite track by the Jacksons is Never Can Say Goodbye. I was 8 when it first hit the airways and is one of the most beautiful ballads ever.

  20. S.... M....

  30. E.... T....

I really appreciated how they gave a little extra on the Philly Sound and this one is a Delfonics Classic! RIP MJ

  31. K.... S....

This reminds me of my very first girlfriend Dana Gibbs I knew her since we were babies but we grew apart after my parents moved me from the city to the suburbs back in 69" and the last time I saw her back in 78" she had grown into a gorgeous young female and I asked her what ever happened with us and she simply said you moved away......

  32. J.... J....

God damn they sung this shit! You can hear Marlons vocals the most on back up.

  33. r.... ....

Shout out, and props to that String Section, and the arrangers. Man, they are kicking major butt on this song. Not sure who they were using in their L. A. Studios, but, back in Detroit, the label used to hire the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as part of that great Motown Sound. Check it out! Ciao!!!

  34. r.... ....

The Best, most powerful, dramatic part of the song is the 2nd Bridge when Michael cries "I Love ya, I Love ya, don't you know I Love ya, I....... Looooovvvveee You!!!" His delivery is nothing short of Outstanding!!!

  35. R.... L....

Bass: The great James "Hook" Jamerson

  36. B.... W....

The Jackson 5 made the Delfonics proud when they remade this song originally done by the delfonics

  37. N.... S....

I love this song! 10 year old Michael Jackson vocals on this song "Can you remember" it's remarkable! A mature & old soul in a 10 year old body & voice!!! Miss you MJ!!!

  63. D.... R....

this song was tailor-made for the Jackson 5 Michael and his brothers right on J5

    D.... R....

It was originally recorded by the Delfonics.

  64. D.... G....

Michael sang the hell out this song

    D.... G....

Yeah, he "knocked it out the park". I like the original,, but this arrangement, coupled with Michael's delivery is my phenomenal favorite!!!

    D.... G....

    Yes he Really Did!😁

    D.... G....

    Michaell Jackson did THAT!

    D.... G....

He was great at covers. He could take the miming of original singers and add his twist.

    D.... G....

Yes he did Rest in peace Michael Jackson 1958-2009

  65. A.... F....

Produced by Bobby Taylor, who was an great and underrated vocalist in his own right Taylor recorded "Does Your Mama Know About Me," "I Am Your Man" and "Malinda"--all with his band, the Vancouvers (which featured a young guitarist named Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame).

  66. K.... T....

    c.... ....

cinco6535 I’ve look at this picture 1000 times. But I never noticed that. Very perceptive

    c.... ....

Lol! I have a different perspective on that look! Michael was tired of catching Jackie banging all those groupies in the same room as him! You know the youngest had to be watched by the oldest!

    c.... ....

Kenneth Newsome 😂😂😂😂it was both him.and jermaine that took full advantage according to sources

  78. j.... b....

  80. L.... W....

    good job Jackson Five

  81. I.... D....

either this song is underrated or ppl haven't heard it cause this is the best I've herd from j5.

  82. D.... P....

I sure can! So sad that when people get a certain age they forget where they came from and the memories made along the way.

    D.... P....

    Well stated.

  83. K.... C....

    extortion brought me here...mobb deep

  84. J.... M....

I like both versions by the Jacksons And the Delfonics

    J.... M....

James Melton in my humble opinion Jackson 5 version it's better! Especially the way 10 year old Little Michael Jackson sung that song with such soul like an old soul in that 10 yr old voice!!

    J.... M....

    I agree both are great

    J.... M....

    Delfonics had great harmony too!

  85. T.... R....

he was just simply the best that ever did it

  86. L.... S....

Being Michaels' age I know this LP well. I wore out all my J-5 records albums 8 tracks because I knew this was good music. We fast forward 47 years and this is even better music than I thought. It still amazing, when I think that they were kids and Michael a very young child with the ability to sing like this. Can You Remember is probably my favorite on this album and in my Jacksons top ten. I will always love this group Pure perfection to me. I miss you Smiley can't wait until Christ resurrects you.
    John 5:28, 29

    L.... S....

I thought it was Jermaine singing

  87. P.... P....

This makes a grown man cry! This is one level Prince never got to.

    P.... P....

Indeed. Mike had the benefit of the greatest studio band in history; The Funk Brothers. Motown had a stable of a-list producers who had the "biggest ears" in the business. This was the training ground of Michael Jackson. The Jackson 5 was a global phenomenon, and Motown made sure that their sound was beyond compare. It was a beautiful period in black music.

    P.... P....

    Theodore McClendon

    P.... P....

Prince is greatness too both Michael Jackson and Prince are extremely talented. Prince did thing's Michael Jackson couldn't do and Michael Jackson did things Prince couldnt. So what is your point sir?

    P.... P....

    Pete....

    P.... P....

Prince a technician musically. Michael's more an artist visionary.

  88. X.... ....

Mike blew THE FUCK out of this song. No ten year old in the history of vocalization EVER put this much feeling and emotion into a song. ... One of a kind. Never to be seen again. RIP greatest entertainer ever. His death still saddens me.

    X.... ....

    👍👍👍

    X.... ....

...Most definitely...i believe Mikes' biggest attribute with his vocals was the feeling he put into every phrase!

  89. K.... S....

Michael Jackson My Cherie forever and ever

  90. B.... ....

There's always an urge for us to compare remakes to original versions in music, but I just think it's wrong to do that with any of the early Jackson 5 songs. Berry Gordy purposely wanted the J5 to cover great adult artists like the Smokey & the Miracles, and the Delfonics just to show the outstanding ability & presence they had as very young men, and especially the insane power of Michael's voice as a pre-teen. So with that, Im able to listen without the silly comparisons, because the J5 was a rare comet that we will never see again.

  91. I.... B....

Used to play this cut a lot! Joe Jackson was no joke.

  92. I.... B....

They put it down! Listen to the harmonic background, brothers are great.

  93. B.... T....

love this version... love the Delfonics..but Michael put it down!

  94. M.... C....

Jackie and Tito were the " no nonsense" types! Jermaine, Marlon and Michael use to play alot! sometimes to much! Jackie may have put his foot down!

    M.... C....

Harold Strong but the older ones couldn't be little anymore they were 18-22 early 70s

  95. T.... D....

This Is Added To My List Of Favorites By The Jackson 5 Just Because I Love Michael's Vocals And I Can't Deny The Brothers Did Great On The Background Almost Making Me Cry. Even Though They Were Young They Sounded Like The Four Tops, The Delfonics, And Smokey Robinson And The Miracles.

    T.... D....

+Tayler Dent That is what they were aiming for. They wanted to be the best. They win 100%

  96. S.... ....

I love it!!!! This is a great song being sung by a great singer and group!!!! I could not cease playing this song on June 25,2009. Each time I played it, I missed Michael more!!!!

  97. D.... ....

    ....MJ greatest entertainer ever💯✔️👍🏿....

  98. R.... V....

As much as I loved the Delfonics original version, the Jackson 5 version is so much better and much more beautiful to listen to.

  99. T.... T....

Oh This Is Such and Adorable Song!
