Jackie Evancho - Memory Lyrics

Midnight, not a sound from the pavement.
Has the moon lost her memory? She is smiling alone.
In the lamp light the withered leaves collect at my feet.
And the wind begins to moan.

Memory, all alone in the moonlight.
I can smile at the old days, I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was.
Let the memory live again

Every street lamp seems to beat a fatalistic warning.
Someone mutters and a street lamp gutters and soon it will be morning.

Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise.
I must think of a new life and I mustn't give in.
When the dawn comes tonight will be a memory too.
And a new day will begin.

Burnt out ends of smoky days, the stale cold smell of morning.
The street lamp dies, another night is over, another day is dawning.

Touch me. its so easy to leave me all alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun.
If you touch me you'll understand what happiness is.
Look, a new day has begun.

I love Jackies early childhood performances for their innocence and sincerity, and the purity of Jackie's childhood voice. Of course, I love all of her performances.

Miss Evancho's bell tone voice is the clearest and purest sound in the history of recorded music.  The sound goes directly to the pleasure center of the brain and is why so many love her voice and are moved to tears when they hear her sing.   I am in awe and in tears ...

she has 'the gift'.  and now we do too.

  17. L.... H....

The effort put into this song is impressive and the finish is beyond words. She appears to be maybe 9 yr's old and follows the tempo like any experienced singer. The best child singer ever.

  18. p.... c....

Watching this little girl grow up is going to be an experience of a lifetime. Great things are in store for all who wait.

Too many child actors (and singers) 'flame-out' at an early age.  We call them CHILDREN because they 'are' children and bear an apparently  responsible (please note the 'responsible') designation there that they should not have...ADULTS should be involved in making and assisting in decisions that these gifted children are simply incapable of responsibly deciding upon or contributing to before their forebrain and hypothalamus have even fully developed, much less matured!  Oh boy, she's the brightest prepubescent bottle-rocket to light up the sky!  At the rate she's going she has little if any chance of becoming the next  Amália Rodrigues before she completely burns out her vocal chords and significantly reduces her range....there are lots of respectable contraltos around - not so many true, hit and sustain the impossible notes -  alto-sopranos with genuine, sustainable breath control.  I don't know if it is her managers, her  parents, her coaches or any/all of the above - it may indeed be Jackie herself, although I can't really credit her with fully adult, mature judgement yet (sorry!) - but I'd sure like to bitch-slap whoever's responsible for wrecking her future potential as a real, game-changer kind of singer.

    J.... M....

I 100 percent agree with most of what you are saying, but Jackie, being not only an amazing and talented singer, is also amazing and talented with her brains. She knows what she wants, and knows that she has to take care of her beuatiful gift. ANd she has had many, as in dozens of differeing and amazing opera/crossover/classical vocalists that have taught her what to do and what NOT to do to keep her voice strong and growing. Sarah Brightman herself said on AGT that Jackie needs to nurture and preserve her voice. And I am sure she explained what that meant and how to do that before or after the show. SHe has sang with the Canadian tenors, Josh Groban, and countless others.
I've seen her live, and she only sings two songs at a time before resting for 10 minutes. This was only a few months ago, and I am sure she's had this routine for a while. She allows her voice to rest, and does smaller range-songs throughout the show to pace herself. She has a great head on her shoulders, and great people looking after her.
Even though I do not know her personally, I love the things she stands for, the things she believes, and the things she wants to be in the future.
She has a blessed soul, and she will hopefully bless this world for many many years to come.

Maybe you should do a little research before all the  self-important, pompous bullcrap. Jackie has her vocal cords checked regularly by the leading medical specialists in the country and they are in perfect condition. Five years later she voice is stronger than ever. ever listen to Awakening?

The question is not who will be the next  Amalia Rodrigues it's who will be the next Jackie Evancho. Jackie is a classical crossover performer not a opera wanna be Thank god

    J.... M....

@jeff rosenstein Ad hominem attacks? I was speaking as a concerned adult and a parent and there is nothing 'self-important' or pompous in my commentary. You, however, sound like an obsessive groupie - stalk much?

    J.... M....

@John McGlynn So you still want to bitch slap Jackie's parents? Your the same
as all the opera snobs who have stalked these videos for 5 years, bitching about problems that don't exist.Jackie is very well taken care of.

    J.... M....

6/3/2018, going to see Jackie for the 3d time. Trust me, there is nothing wrong with this fantastic girls vocal chords, nothing. She'll be 18 for about 3 months or so.

Nice... until the dreadful attempt to pull off the "smoky" bits at 2:30 - if you can survive the transition to real opera in your 20's/30's kid you'll go somewhere... she doesn't have the range (nor should she) at her age.  Give her a few years and pray that she doesn't crash-and-burn from too much stage-Mom-sim, precociousness and inadequate technical discipline (brought on by precociousness, i.e., having to relearn what she "knows").

    J.... M....

    LOL
I guess you don't know who Jackie Evancho is.

    J.... M....

I guess I do know who she is, and I stand by my contention that she may be damaging her future potential.

    J.... M....

    @John McGlynn
Quote: "if you can survive the transition to real opera in your 20's/30's kid you'll go somewhere."

She does not want to go into opera, and has said that many many times. And what do you call going somewhere she already has a career that 99% of opera singers would be jealous of and she is just 14. While all opera singers would love to be able to get on PBS.  Jackie is making her 3rd PBS special now.

Actually, thank you for your concerns for someone who just might be a national treasure. this particular video dates to late 2009 I suspect, and from BEFORE she developed her "full cover" voice that she used to great effect during AGT's 5th season.

Personally, I have never seen the likes of a voice like hers from anyone of any age, including Deanna Durbin at an equivalent age, although it would be close.

Now that she is 14, they have opened up her range a bit, allowing her to finally sing more notes in the G5- Bflat5 range which is not the top of her range, but close [D6].

I also hope that they are working to control and limit her usage of her voice. At this point, it is said that she practices about 1 hour per WEEK. Hopefully, she is also getting instruction on the finer points of vocal safety and good practices.

  23. E.... D....

I keep hearing Jackie singing this in my head at the most unexpected moments!

Very nice.. When & Where is the audio track from? It is not the original audio track, and not from the same time as the video track. You should specify that sort of info. Very sweet!
