Ives, Burl - Lavender Blue, Dilly Dilly Lyrics

Lavender blue, dilly, dilly
Lavender green
If I were king, dilly, dilly
I'd need a queen

Who told me so? Dilly, dilly
Who told me so?
I told myself, dilly, dilly
I told me so

If your dilly, dilly heart
Feels a dilly, dilly way
And if you'll answer, "Yes"
In a pretty little church
On a dilly, dilly day
You'll be wed in a dilly, dilly dress of

Lavender blue, dilly, dilly
Lavender green
Then I'll be king, dilly, dilly
And you'll be my queen

Lavender blue, dilly, dilly
Lavender green
If you were king, dilly, dilly
You'd need a queen

Who told me so? Dilly, dilly
Who told me so?
I told myself, dilly, dilly
I told me so

If your dilly, dilly heart
Feels a dilly, dilly way
And if you'll answer, "Yes"
In a pretty little church
On a dilly, dilly day
I'll be wed in a dilly, dilly dress of

Lavender blue, dilly, dilly
Lavender green
Then you'll be king, dilly, dilly
And I'll be your queen

I’m so pleased to see this. My grandfather sang it to me when I was very little, and I’ve been wanting to sing it to my little grandson but didn’t remember all the words. Yay!

Oh this makes me cry... so many memories.

FINALLY FOUND THIS VERSION! I heard it on one of Disney Classics CDS and I fell in love.

  7. G.... P....

See pictures of Burl Ives in the bathtub taking a bubble bath. His huge gluttonous belly is unbelievable. His exposed bellybutton is cute. Burl Ives has big boobs for a man and a plump pink bare butt

  8. C.... ....

My mom was a fan of Burl Ives, and we used to play this record over and over when we were kids.

  13. L.... A....

My grandmother gave me either the 45 or a Burl Ives album when I was a kid....I played this song over and over. It has taken years to find anyone who has actually heard of it, even remotely my age!!!!!!!!

    L.... A....

I remember the rock version, and that's pretty old too.
That's how I just happened to look this up.

My copy is part of "Walt Disney's Merriest Songs" that was sold at Gulf gas stations in 1969 (I was 5). The song's from a movie called "So Dear to My Heart." I always pictured vivid Spring colors when I heard this. Oh - and my grandfather gave it to me :)

    L.... A....

@luvmyrecords I have both Walt Disney's Merriest Songs and Walt Disney's Happiest Songs albums.

    L.... A....

    @Joseph Okey...and they're still fun to play, aren't they? :)

Was Burl Ives married or was he not? Children?

Evidently. His son just commented on a Facebook post of mine the other day, about something or other.
