Isley Brothers, The - Ohio Lyrics
Tin Soldiers and Nixon Coming
We're Finnaly on our own
This summer I hear the drumming
Four Dead in Ohio
Should have been done long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Laa Laa Laa
Laa Laa Laa
Laa Laa Laa
Laa Laa Laa
Gotta Get Down to, Soldier are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago
How can you run when you know?
Tin Soldiers and Nixon Coming
We're Finnaly on our own
This summer I hear the drumming
Four Dead in Ohio
Four Dead in Ohio 4x

Isley Brothers, The Ohio Comments
Heard this at 13 and loved it
Can you see those black soldiers
this song shredded my face off by the increase in goodness compared to the CSNY track
Out of this world is all i could say
this version of the c s n y hit IS WAAY BETTER !!!
Because it happened... We must remember... and pray those days are not gonna happen again anytime soon.
One of the greatest tracks of all time....
First heard this when I was 13 years and dugged it
Their best album to me. All of them are nice
The Isley Brothers covered two of the best protest songs ever...and magnificently covered them both in one song.
Why are all of the Isley Brother’s covers amazing?
The best one in the univers
Soulful of feelings
Never heard this version until today. Heartbreaking and beautiful.

ORIGINAL CLASSIC. "ISLEYS"
PHONOMENIAL..
Incredible!
Days gone by so so sad 😢😢😢 Jackson State too (Mississippi)!!???😨😨😨
Love the Isley Brothers. Soul from the 60s, protest music from the 70s, eroticism from the 70s, African American pride in the 80s, Hendrix played for them before we knew who Hendrix was. Wow. Did covers of white rock artists most blacks never heard the originals. Wow what a family, what a singing group, what a band. Love em.
Well, I thought that was great. Thanks a lot, guys.
WOW this is amazing
thanks uncle for turning me on to this great music rip
heard this at 13 suggest it then 60 now my fav album by them👍
Great version! Absolutely.
when a song has a real soul and really alive ! when 9 minutes passing like 3 ! a real pleasure !
Right on 😎
don't forget...what happen at Kent St also occurred at Jackson State University and Southern University....how can you run when you know!!!!
Incredible, the Isley brothers are geniuses. Such talents.
If that guitar @ 1:20 doesn't speak to your soul, there is nothing on this earth that will.
Wow, such a powerful song.
ernie on the guitar....remember this back in the day I use to play this almost every day in college
Forgive them father
Get involved and say it loud !
Another gem just discovered.
blood brothers in music skilled musicians. earnie isley one of the greatest guitarist of all time up ther with jimmy

This shit rock's and it's funk.word.✊🎤🎵🎶🎼🎹
This is a phenomenal song, written by the legendary Neil Young🎸so so so well done by the all legendary Isley Brothers A Masterpiece✌🎸🎤🎹🎶
Tears of the black Warrior
This is one of the best tracks i have ever heard, it is incredible i had to own it.
On the Live Version they had to do the Song Over because O'Kelly Isley was so down and depressed Over this Song, Reminds me of my Uncle He would Drink his Wild Irish Rose Wine and Listen to this Song and Shake his Head and Cry..
if only jimi was alive to do a solo on this
Kudos to Neil Young for writing the great song but this is one cover that eclipses the original. Where as that one quit earthbound this one is sky bound and as powerful as music gets. Ron's vocals and Ernie's guitar take this beyond the sky.
There is no other guitarist I have heard use the pentatonic scale to such amazing effect as Ernie I don't think even Clapton can touch him for feel or tone.
Anthem of the 70's. Dick Gregory recorded an album Live at Kent State in which he delivered a speech on the atrocities of that dreadful day. I will create a mix that include The Isleys rendition of Ohio and, excerpts from the speech inserted at key points in the song. Will be posting this soon.............. Stay tuned.
ERNIE!!!!!!!!!
I Love this fucking song. It takes me back when I was 4. And my dad played this while trying to get over Vietnam.
I found this to play for my husband, we are in our sixties, could not beleive he never heard it. Classic, classic, dee
Wow Man I Have Never Head This !!!! COOL !!!
One of the most talented family musicians ever!
...first heard this one in the Fall of 1972 - memories of college days...
Isley Brother's mutherfuckin' rule.
I haven't heard something like that for a long time.. this is serious music, with balls
This takes me back to my youth. I absolutely love the Isley Brothers. I've seen them twice in concert.
Gwendolyn Sadler you're lucky to have seen them. born and raised Akron, 1960.

on my favorite group of all time and alot did know that Jim H play in the band love the group peace love and happiness J C Pittsburgh PA
The Isley's were always the best at balancing rock n roll and rhythm and blues. Screw those labels, these guys were good.
Forrest Sweasy
Forrest Sweasy
I agree. They sound very real.
Forrest Sweasy Amen
Superrrr
Amazing cover. Doesn't have the vocals of CSNY, but...then again who does lol?
FlynnYoba
FlynnYoba

that why Bilal Bin Rabah was selected to perform Azan because he was born to have a good voices and gifted n talented about voices...respect to All blacks when they perform a songs all of the times
I am feeling this so frikking demasiado!!!!
one of the best to ever come out of this time and place
you always know if it's the Isleys' work
So sad, it makes me wanna cry. And to think, it is still happening today when I think of Baltimore, Saint Louis, Florida, Oakland etc etc; Ohio all over again.
Definitely getting this sampled
Master Piece
fantastic
Awesome, awesome cover
omg this song is just incredible, the rythm, the guitar solo all is perfect thanks The isley brothers, jimi hendrix and Neil young
Kent State how I remember this riot.......Crosby, Still,Young made a song about the riot at Kent State on May 4, 1970. Mr Nixon ordered.
Ernie is a very under appreciated guitar player. He has such a great feel to his playing. I love it.
+Michael Steding he should be ; he learned from one /if not the best -Hendrix . Check the history ...
I say Ernie Isley is the closest thing to Hendrix than anyone. Yet he's never listed on any of the "Top100 Guitarist" published by Rolling Stone Magazine or any other lists that I've searched. I don't get it. He's No #1 in my book . . .
gives me fucking goosebumps...summer breeze too? good gosh
No white boys like Clapton ,Townsend and Beck were more effected by Hendrix he was the big white shock and every other white guitarist has not gotten over that. Ernie plays with more soul depth then Hendrix , also by the accounts of interviews it does not look like Hendrix was that big a deal to the Isley's the way he was to white musicians.
our own government was fucking us up, POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!
Jimi/Neil + Isley Bros = Genius
This is beautiful to hear how Ron Isley and brothers put it together. You didn't have to live in the days to know this government will not accept protests or facsimile, they will kill you. Jimi Hendrix classic and the Isley ran w/it.
+alan mule neil young
Yea jimi made machine gun, but neil young made this song
Classic tune
Wow – this is so heavy. Amazing. Shivers.
Wow it makes you shiver and brings a lump to your throat
Never forget and never forgive !
I was on my way back in the day to NC to visit my lady in Rose Hill and listen to the entire album on cassette all the way on a bus when it first came out
THIS SONGS SOOOO FUCKIN GOOD MAN
THANK U EARTH FOR LETTING ME LIVE ON U AND THANK U HUMAN KIND FOR CREATING THESE WONDER SOUNDS
Best comment I've ever seen on YouTube
Agreed! They pour their hearts into these songs.
1st, DON'T SHOOT ME!!!
2ND..DON'T YOU SHOOT!!
3RD ...I WANNA KNOW WHY? WELL
NOW WE KNOW WHY!!!...50 + years
later ..and its worse than ever.!. ITS SAD...INCREDIBLE FEELING , SUBSTE. ..RB, SOUL, ROCK, ET. AL LET'S WAKE UP
Today is May 4-Kent State 1970--the US gov't. killing our youth; just like in Baltimore and Ferguson. Lets not forget the Jackson State killings a few days later. The Isleys rule--all you songwriters like me out there-you MUST start writing protest songs; dig deep in your soul and SAY SOMETHING IMPORTANT !!
"Agitate . . . Agitate . . . Agitiate"
Frederick Douglass
Timeless. Great Cover by The Isley Brothers. Not easy songs to cover especially together in such a beautiful and romantic way.
The kings of cover songs!
I still remember the first time to hear this and it has stayed with me for over 40 years, an anthem to be used by all of us to remember.
Still one of mh top five of all time. Great song given such heart and soul1
B. Dolan brought me here....
Wow! Can't believe I'm just now hearing this one. Great rendition of Neil Young's classic song. Rock on Isley Brothers!
The greatest rendition was by CSN&Y; honestly, they can't even get the lyrics right.
Do you know who the Y is in CSN&Y? The Isley's respected the original, which is why they covered it, but put their own stamp on it.
buckbiro
Exactly
@Leonardo's Truth Lyrics aren't totally right because its a mix of Ohio by Neil Young and Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix.
I love that song
this song make think about what is happening in Ferguson MO!!!
no doubt I just tweeted that
No comments on the decision by the Isleys to change the lyrics to cut the Nixon reference from the song? It's still powerful and angry and holds its own against CSNY. But what was the reasoning behind the rewrite?
OMG this is absolutely chilling. for those too young to remember- this is how you felt about what was going down then.
for those who don't- it's okay- don't let them do to you what they did to us. STOP WAR! no one wins but the corporations and the big money.
What a great recording .The Isley Brothers made so many fantastic records and this one is astounding and so emotional it hurts .
A SOLDIER IN VIET NAM AT THE SAME TIME THERE WAS VIOLENCE ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUSES AND THE STREETS OF AMERICA..LET US NOT GO BACKWARDS IN 2014.

Wow, this comment didn't age well.
I mean, yeah I guess we didn't go backwards in 2014. We waited a bit longer.
song is real. 92baby
I don't care how old you are. I don't care how you found the song. But I wish people's comments on some music was more than "oh this is where _____ sampled it for ______".
Damn.. why so cold? I just think it's nice when someone appreciates good music when they hear it no matter if they feel it necessary to explain how the came too find out about.
@Clifford Warner I guess I'm being a bit harsh. What was up my butt that day when I wrote that?
I still do wish this music was more than just a sample source for peopl today though.
RTRfm, the sound alternative brought me here. http://rtrfm.com.au/ the best radio station in the world.
Big up RTRFM!
Listening to some old Isley's tonight and I had forgot about this one. Powerful.
Brilliant.
Muhammad ali
I also hear a lot of Chris Cornell in Ronald's voice. Perfect duet cover for Chris Cornell and someone who could hit really high notes.
