Iron Maiden - The Edge Of Darkness Lyrics
I've looked into the heart of darkness
Where the blood red journey ends
When you've faced the heart of darkness
Even your soul begins to bend
Still I am only in Saigon
The walls moves in a little closer
I feel the jungle call me on
Every minute I get weaker
While in the jungle they grow strong
What I wanted was a mission
And for my sins they gave me one
They brought it up just like room service
And when that mission was all over
I'd never want another one
I know, captain, that you've done this work before
We've got a problem you can help us I'm sure
The Colonel's gone rogue, and his methods are unsound
You'll take a PBR up river; Track Him Down!
There's a conflict in every human heart
And the temptation is to take it all too far
In this war things get so confused
But there are some things which cannot be excused
He's acting [?] like a god - an insane lunatic
Your mission - exterminate with extreme prejudice
The route is dangerous and your progress may be slow
Here is the file and it's all you need to know
Here I am the knife in my hand
And now I understand why the genius must die
Now I stand alone in the darkness
With his blood upon my hands
Where sat the warrior the poet
Now lie the fragments of a man

Iron Maiden The Edge Of Darkness Comments
Stunning song from a brilliant album. The Blaze era was a brilliant time artistically for Maiden with some classic material. His clearly different vocal colour meant that the sound of Iron Maiden was different and the band adapted their mixing style to match that. It showed a different side to the band that can be seen as an important stage to their evolution.
Blaze sounds good!! Very rocking song \../
This would make a great Metal Gear/Solid Snake AMV!
I love this song more than the movie.
and I loved the movie!
Top show 👏👏👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
Where does fucking time go? It seems it was just yesterday when I spent time listening to the entire álbum alone in My bedroom. Today i'm 38 years old feeling this deep nostalgia.
Blaze voz de trovão.. marcou uma epoca muito valiosa do iron EU gostei muito dos dois album

Мой любимый альбом у Девы.
Apocalypse now movie hahahahahahahaahha
This is a very solid song from iron maiden
What a great song remember when it came out probably one of the best on X factor it was 1995 when it came out I was 12 I’m now 36 and still love it
My fauvorite album is BRUTAL PLANET by Alice Cooper and in second place THE X FACTOR.
One of greatest Maiden Song composer but very unrated
Epic song! UP THE IRONS!
La cantata del diablo? :v
Algunos rifs se parecen, pero ya sabemos la tradición de mago de oz ( Txus) de copiar o plagiar canciones o solo una parte de ellas.
An Obessive song that cuts deep from the masterpiece album the X-FACTOR.....One of their most characteristic and important albums through their entire career.....To me it´s Pure Gold..
Maiden remains Maiden no matter voice is este album its masterpiece
Finally watched Apocalypse Now after many years of meaning to and was absolutely shocked and disgustingly disappointed at how many phrases were straight out copied from that 1979 movie. Especially the scene were the captain Martin Sheen is in his hotel room in Saigon, Vietnam. I'm surprised Iron Maiden hasn't got sued over copyright violations yet.
La gente que critico este disco no la entiendo, me parece muy bueno, el estilo de blaze era bueno, pero no lo comparen con bruce, es como comparar no se, a un perro con un lobo :v jaja es un ejemplo que se yo
An INFERNAL touch of heaven...one of my favourites from the Masterpiece album the X-Factor. Even if this unique, legendary album is vastly underrated, and certainly Blaze, this album cuts deeper in your heart and soul the more you´r listening to it.....
I knew that I was going to find you here! Hahaha!
@Ignacio Campero You´ll always find me in Maiden videos, with Blaze, Bruce and some with Di'Anno...
Steve Harris is such a phenomenal bass player. It's ridiculous how perfect he keeps the rhythm. Can't wait to see them play live this next September in LA
I love this song with all my heart, mind and soul, one of my favourites from the Masterpiece album the X-Factor....and I love the dark, intense and emotional voice of Blaze..I SALUTE you for giving us this EPIC JEWEL...
What a song
What a song
first stanza about Joseph Conrad but I could be wrong.
A phenomenal song.....deep lyrics, the melancholic melodic tune, the spellbinding slow, gentle intro and outro, and the dark, intense and passionate voice of Blaze turns this song into an Epic Golden Gem .....the X-Factor was/is and will always be a MASTERPIECE.....
Agree 100%
UP THE IRONS
This PHENOMENAL song aswell as Look for the truth are my favourites from the MASTERPIECE album X-Factor.....I love the obsessive music, brilliant guitar work and the dark, intense and passionate voice of Blaze.......A HIDDEN JEWEL.......
Yo vine por mago de oz :v
i can't believe i've not heard the x factor until now, some great tracks and loved this one, great song based on great story and film!
Go to hell blaze! Fuck you!
all x factor songs is like lessons of life for the kids, and also angel and the gambler and some more from virtual ....the x factor are the deepest meaning album of maiden

Best guitar intro ever
One if the best iron maiden albums.
This track, as well as 90% of the stuff on the X-Factor, is amazing. Always loved that album and it is by far the best Maiden album of the 1990's. Wasn't a fan of Virtual XI but I never have and never will criticize either album Blaze did. Great voice for the stuff written for him, just struggled with the songs written for Bruce (aside from Afraid To Shoot Strangers, IMO Blazes version edges Bruces).
Nick Cox I agree with you 100 %, and the album X-Factor is a downrigt MASTERPIECE....and one of their best through all their career...
@Eddie Venkman I agree, that version took my breath away....
2:56 the book of souls
I was just 17 when this album was released. We all were living under Bruce Dickinson´s shadow on Iron Maiden and because of that, our good judgement about Bayle´s work was completely clowned. Listening those songs nowdays, we realize that X-Factor wasn´t that bad at all....
My dad showed me this song and I start to like it
THIS IS MY FAVORITE IRON MAIDEN SONG.
This song, this whole album,is proof that Blaze Bayley deserves mention in the same sentence as Dickinson and Di'Anno. Deep, deep stuff on the X Factor. One of my favorite Maiden albums!
totally agreed, absolutely.
kmsharley75 in my top five, without any doubt what so ever.....
@Tom Caine the strange thing is that the more you listen to it, the deeper into your heart and soul it gets......although I love their progressive music the most, this incredible album have reached my top three, that´s for sure....
@Eddie Venkman I noticed a shift in the direction of Maiden after Blaze's two albums. More of their songs seemed so much more directed towards true empowerment of the individual--Rainmaker and the Journeyman come to mind readily. I know that pre-X Factor is what people remember as Maiden, but to me, the deepest, most personal songs come from X-Factor onwards.
@Rohan Casukhela I agree with every word, truth to be told especially the X-Factor has reached my top three albums, the melancholic melodic tunes, deep lyrics and the powerful and emotional voice of Blaze makes them more than unique.....simply unforgettable....maybe that´s the reason why I love their later music so much, melodic, sophisticated, progressive....there are so many jewels to be found....
Is this not the best Iron Maiden song?
definetly one of them, no doubt.
your crazy man this is a rip off of Hallowed be thy name lol same band but still RIP OFF
Though there is some resonance (the guitar work mainly) I don't find this to be a rip off, but instead one of the most heart-touching Maiden song - the entire album in fact. But no need to argue
Belongs to the 20 best Iron Maiden songs.
if you like this song, watch the movie apocalypse now
or the other way around XD
Love this one!
very nice solo. i liked just 4 song by Blaze but this is 5.😊
like si llegaste acá por Mago De Oz :v
My favourite song by Maiden!

Ещё есть что послушать на Земле!
good times... unfortunatelly, good songs doesnt exists no more...
I looked into the heart of darkness, AND I ATE IT ALL!!
Joseph Conrad
Maybe if Blaze had sung more with the energy he sang with from 5:14 to 5:23, people would have embraced him more as Iron Maiden's singer. One of the main reasons The X Factor and Virtual XI weren't as successful as other Maiden albums is because he didn't have the same energy as Bruce. Still a very good song, though.
channel5980 blaze has deferent style no energy problem.
channel5980 it’s because blaze is killing my brain cells
if people wonder why people lje blaze more, its simple thesetwo albums are darker then the other album.fuck i go asfar call them gloomier lol.thats why
ich liebe diesen song! jch war 14 jahre alt als ich das erste mal maiden höhrte. heute bin jch 45 und ich liebe sie noch immer!!

3:05 hallowed be thy name is that you
Truth! We catch
Truth!!!
Vicente Gutierrez hallowed be thy Blaze is that his voice or somebody is killing a horse
hallowed be thy name little brother lml
i loved that riff and i origionally trid to find the song name, but found hallowed be thy name instead
Apocalypse Now :3
I really liked the x factor. I think this and virtual xi was better than NPFTD and FOTD
Blazer era albums its much better than this 2000´s Bruce return era in my opinion. By the way, all Maiden´s album are very good.
Daniel Wildeboer no,no,no I disagree strongly. And let me say I am in no way a Blaze hater,I loved him,but imo,Maiden has done some of their best work since Bruce's return. But there is an argument to be made that this album is better than some of the late work done right before Bruce left the first time.
Iron Maiden ´s most beautiful song....
+edgard lucana is this a joke?
ok it's a nice song... not the best..
god please the trooper its better !!
The Red and the Black
He said beautiful not the best. Damn, learn to read -..-
the trooper is better than this? No chance.
This should have been the official song of "Apocalypse Now"
The Doors' "The End"
Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad
Epic!!, can someone please list the different time signatures?
This is great. The two albums Maiden did with Blaze are way underrated. I don't think Maiden have ever released a bad album.
As a kid Bruce's sound resonated more with me, that's changed with age
@Steve Pellow So did he. It is inevitable (LOL Do you hear that sound, mr. Dickinson, the ound of inevitability...) - I love DiAnno's singing (on the two Maiden albums), and I think he is better at his songs than when Bruce sings them (ESPECIALLY Remember tomorrow). But Blaze was so unsuitable, I must appolgize, but I never liked him live, on the studio records he is ok, I guess.
This is one of IM's best songs though. I maybe biased, because I love that movie, but this one great song. But musically it is as IM as it could possibly get and his voice works great.
Underrated??? These are the top 2 albums of iron maiden
Never released a bad album?! Hmmm let's see... somewhere in time, no prayer for the dying and fear of the dark are all dreadful albums! Plus even piece of mind and powerslave are loaded with filler tracks.
It's a shame Di'Anno and Baley have been all but wiped out of Maiden's history. Look at their recent Best Of albums (80-90 & 90-2010), all songs featuring the other two singers have been scrapped for live Dickinson versions. This is surely partly down to Dickinson. This is off putting and downright unfair as these two other singers were an integral part of their history. So what if Di'Anno became a huge, bitter walrus of a man? It's still unfair to not even mention him in these compilations. He was brilliant in those first two albums and many fans prefer that era so those proper versions should be on.
great song. underestimated
I like this song a lot!
Besides Janick Gers solo,of course...
tarcísio chagas Janick is great😊
morticia not really...
If you watched the movie Apocalypse Now you can recognize 85 percent of the lyrics in the movie ;)
Dont' you mean "Apocalypse now"? ;-)
hahahhaha, Jesus Christ, i can't believe i've made such kind of mistake :D Yes, yes, Now ^_^ ! Thanks for your consideration Mat :D
Nostromo yes, because both are based on Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
Crazy story... I knew this song by heart. Then months later my buddy told me to watch some crazy war movie with him. When the narrator started talking I was getting serious de ja vu for some reason. It finally dawned on me half way thru the movie that the narrator was giving Iron Maiden lyrics!
This tunes far too short! I could listen to blaze sing a full epic saga to that tune. WHOA OOH OOHHHH!!! UP THE FUCKIN IRONS!!
I've looked into the heart of darkness
Where the blood-red journey ends
When you've faced the heart of darkness
Even your soul begins to bend <3 :(
BLoooDYSaBBaTH For a week I have been waiting.....Still I am only in Saigon...
Great song, composed by Bayley himself!
Not Bayley: Harris.

Not a bad song, a couple OK solo's and riffs, but to boring for me
metal melodies because it with Blaze but for me is 5.song which i like with him.
Every Iron's song like one greatest song ever
And now Spec Ops The Line is better from these masterpieces.
yeah, the script for apocalypse now was altered a little , and the setting was moved to vietnam instead of Congo
only one man is fool
But wasn't the Novella based on the Belgian Congo instead of Saigon?
The song makes a reference to Saigon...
Here I am, the knife in my hand, and NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY THE GENIUS MUST DIE!
thats a hell o a line, but probably true
