Iris, Donnie - My Girl Lyrics

Hey I'm a lucky guy
I got her by my side
Sunday afternoon
I'll take her for a ride
Downtown all around town
Where everyone can see
This pretty thing
She belongs to me

She's my baby
She's driving me crazy
She's got something I want you to see
Come on and show me
Show me a woman with a heart on fire
Oh show me
Show me a woman with a burning desire
You gotta show me
Show me a woman of the world
Oh and I'll show you my girl

I never knew how happy I could be
I'm digging her and the woman's digging me
Oh what a day
Got loving on my mind
Later on tonight
She'll let me know that I'm her baby

She's driving me crazy
She's got something I want you to see
Come on and show me
Show me a woman with a heart on fire
Please show me
Show me a woman with a burning desire
You gotta show me
Show me a woman of the world
Oh and I'll show you my girl
I'll show you my girl

(I'm so crazy)
Now some folks say I'm crazy about the lady
And I may be
Everybody is trying to clue me
She's a floozy and she'll use me
(You'd be crazy)
You'd be crazy about her kissing
If you knew of the loving you're missing
When I'm holding her tight
Yeah, I'm crazy all right
And there's nothing I'd rather be

She's my baby
She's driving me crazy
She's got something I want you to see
Come on and show me
Show me a woman with a heart on fire
Oh show me
Show me a woman with a burning desire
You gotta show me
Show me a woman of the world
Oh and I'll show you my girl

Iris, Donnie My Girl Comments
  1. t.... d....

    # 25 on May 29 and June 5,1982 on Billboard hot 100 chart.

  2. d.... g....

    His best

  3. M.... R....

The greatest traditional rocker to emerge from the Ohio River Valley in the 80s. In all fairness, he always managed to keep it sounding fresh and relevant with a pinch of new wave weirdness in a big bowl of malt shop rock.

    M.... R....

    Perfect description.

And still better than anything today's kids have. Much love for this!

I love these rockabilly 50s songs from the early-mid 80s. In 1982 it was just the regular adults' time (like for someone born in 1940 only in their early 40s at the time) so alot of people could still relate to it.

Growing up in that time, I didn't realize just how much musical influence came from the 1950s and 1960s. Billy Joel's entire 1983 album; the Stray Cats' entire shtick; wall-of-sound homages like "They Don't Know"; sunshine pop tunes like "Walking on Sunshine"; cover songs like "Tainted Love"... the list goes on and on, especially as you get into the mid-80s when there was a whole run of 60s cover hits like "Hazy Shade of Winter", "You Keep Me Hanging On", "Lean on Me", "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Mony Mony".

    X.... H....

    It's not actually rockabilly.

  9. m.... s....

Ive always felt this song could have been a dead ringer for something off of John Lennons Double Fantasy album sound wise.

Donnie is one of us. If you ever saw him live, you'd agree. Pittsburgh represent.

  10. C.... S....

    entered Billboard March 27, 1982 ..reached #25

    C.... S....

Underrated hit, deserved to reach Top 10.

  11. e.... s....

Take a look at his picture on the cover of his album "King Cool": Buddy Holly glasses, dark grey blazer, black shirt, blue jeans, and a fucking "doobie" (i.e. marijuana stick) in his mouth! The epitome of "Devil-May-Care" cool.

  12. D.... B....

his last top 40 hit, reaching #25 on the pop charts in 1982!!!

  13. J.... F....

One of my few 80s favorites during the Dee Jay days @ WVRX/WCRX
