Iris, Donnie - King Cool Lyrics

He smoked a cigarette when he played his song
He was so cool he couldn't do no wrong
Playing his guitar he was a local star
He ran away from love but he ran too far

He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's no fool
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know

He had a chick named merilee
She was the cutest chick he'd ever seen
He couldn't help himself and he fell in love
Between her and his guitar it was push and shove
She wanted him all to herself
She couldn't share him with nobody else

He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's no fool
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know

She doesn't know how she lost her man
Now he's a superstar and she don't understand
How he plays his guitar with a broken heart
Now when his guitar sings it just tears her apart
He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's no fool
You know
He's king cool
You know
He's all right
You know
He's king cool
You know

  4. W.... A....

He got lots of air play from 1970 on.
    He was from New Castle.
So he probably played. Wheeling, Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Cleveland.
    Cleveland had the Rasberries.

    W.... A....

He is playing Youngstown in June on the 15th. Can't wait to go see him!!!!!

    W.... A....

He was from beaver falls pa

  5. R.... J....

This album was so good, I will never know why it didn't get bigger and Donnie should have been a Rock and Roll Super Star.

    R.... J....

Either didn't get enough promotion -- or maybe the wrong sound at the wrong time. Pop songs tended to better than rock songs in the early 80s. But I guess that is often the case.

  6. J.... G....

Can't wait to see ya tomorrow night at the Palace!

  7. M.... L....

    A great track

  8. M.... ....

Same formula as "Ah Leah" and he doesn't miss with this one either ...

    M.... ....

More of a pop song than Leah. Both are GREAT songs but Leah is a rock song while Merilee is more pop rock.

  13. S.... M....

I wore this album out back in the 80's.  Back when they made "albums"

  14. t.... ....

one thing I don't understand this guy was so big. great band and songs he should have fortune but now sells homes and property. someone fill me in plus jimmy and steve played him all the time.

    t.... ....

Record companies and agents have/had a million ways to rip off their talent. I speak from experience.

    t.... ....

Three letters: M C A. Perhaps THE WORST record company in the 80's of all. They ripped everyone off, had the worst marketing, worst A and R, worst distributing, and worst advertising by far. Donnie told them to finally fuck off in 1984 and they have done it their way since. Trust me, MCA fucked over a HUGE number of acts, nearly all of their acts that they signed, which is why they went under.

    t.... ....

I have always maintained that with better support from a record label they could have been Huey Lewis and the News

    t.... ....

    payolla in the 80's

    TheSouthernerWithAdhd
Jimmy & Stevie were disc jockeys on the Pittsburgh radio station WDVE, which is still a rock station today, back in the day.

  15. D.... R....
