Interpol - NYC Lyrics

I had seven faces
Thought I knew which one to wear
But I'm sick of spending these lonely nights
Training myself not to care
The subway is a porno
The pavements they are a mess
I know you've supported me for a long time
Somehow I'm not impressed
But

[Chorus]

New York cares
(Got to be some more change in my life)

The subway she is a porno
And the pavements they are a mess
I know you've supported me for a long time
Somehow I'm not impressed

It is up to me now, turn on the bright lights

He escuchado esta canción varias veces en este día y me hace sentir melancólico. También me gustaría abrazar a alguien y sentirme protegido mientras la lluvia, la carretera nos contagia su infinidad de sensaciones

  2. p.... ....

Sounds like The Chameleons in 1983.

  3. S.... H....

WTF less than 1 million? It's only been uploaded a little over a year, so maybe that is why.

Tenía 14 años en el 2002 cuando los escuché por primera vez y hasta la fecha, INTERPOL ha sido y será una de mis bandas favoritas... <3

  8. j.... v....

Just the instrumentals of Interpol alone are incredible... No need for complicated lyrics

  16. C.... A....

It’s funny that it took years for this band and many others to get recognized now everybody on social media acts like they’re musical intellects when they talk about it. It really opened me up to the fact that a majority of people are just fucking sheep. I didn’t think I’d get to this point but after seeing arguments on Instagram with people who have trap artists as they’re pro pic complaining about how they’re the most legitimate music auteur I knew they’ve infiltrated. Keep this shit to yourself, it’s fucking personal, not a trophy.

  18. z.... ....

    Oh hell yes.

  19. J.... V....

Song needs way more attention, freaking dammit!

  21. Q.... ....

This was the hardest song for me to love when I first got the album (which was the week it came out). Then one day it snapped and I understood what he was talking about as far as New York kids and not being impressed with them. As a kid who grew up in the inner city of Baltimore I hadn't actually met any elitist kids until I got to art school. Wow!!

    Dear person reading this:
You're maybe going through a hard time right know, are feeling insecure and unimportant, but please know that you are a beautiful human being inside and out and that your hard work will pay off some day, just keep trying ! Don't let somebody tell you that you can't do something, remember that impossible is just a big word used by small men ! I
Just trying to write some uplifting comments, sometimes we just need that, I hope it helped you a bit ! :) (Copied from: Andre Carasic).

    G.... S....

Man, i have been on depression from the last 8 years. English is not my native language but i recently discovered this song and it means something to me in some way although i haven´t search for what does the lyrics mean yet. ´´Your´´ comment was so good at this moment, bro. Thanks.

How do I not be a doomer lol

J H to get out of that mindset is to look at tomorrow as a “might as well” instead of a “there is no hope who cares”. i was in the deepest depths of my depression back in late march/early april wanting to drown in my own misery and isolate myself from everyone and to just disappear forever. i was like that until a friend texted me and told me that i was hanging out with him and some girls i’d never met before. i was apprehensive feeling like i wanted to die more than anything but told myself “might as well” just to see if it would help from the depression of a recent break up, it didnt help immediately, i still hated myself, still wanted to jump off a bridge. slowly we started hanging out as a group more and getting close spending nights together and introducing a few more friends and becoming a bigger group throughout the summer. they’ve become a family to me and helped me see my own worth and not blame myself for everything and get excited to see what the next day might bring, what sort of crazy adventures we would go on, what concert we would go to, where we would spend the day, really cliche 17-18 year old movie things which i’ve come to love so much. now with today being the last day of summer for some friends in my group i’ve been reflecting on everything and am so happy that i got myself out of that mindset because if i killed myself back in april i would have missed everything that has happened this summer and never would have turned my life around, i would have never reconnected with a girl i always had a crush on and took to homecoming 3 years ago in my junior year who im about to start dating. its more of a story of my life recently but i really hope it gives you the motivation to keep moving forward. believe me it does get better, a year ago i NEVER would’ve imagined any of this, i promise the future will get better. when? i dont know, only way to find out is to be there :)

  33. E.... S....

This is one of the best drum beats in any song ever......

Does anyone know why lately the historical video "Heinrich Maneuver " has been blocked, and why was also blocked the video of the concert Lollapalloza 2019 in Brazil shared by Gabe Avenger?

  35. B.... M....

  40. M.... T....

Is, and always will be my favorite Interpol song

  41. H.... A....

This song to me is about a modern man living a nihilistic impersonal existence where he succumbed himself to loneliness and despair and self dissociation.
He doesn't feel real, and he's doesn't even have an inkling of who he truly is.
Inevitably his primal urges stay present, the lust for women specifically, despite his attempts to train the desires out of himself by social avoidance. The subway is a porno", meaning he's deriving his sexual gratification with glances of beautiful women opposed to actual physical intimacy with them, is sadly the closest he can feel to women with his life style.
Somebody in his life, someone like his parents, have been there for him unconditionally, but his dissociated anti social psychology dulled him to point he can't even appreciate the love that is present.
He's introspective enough to realize that there's something wrong with him, so change is possible because recognizes his own depression. He'll have to summon brightness inside himself to ever have a chance to reverse the despair within. He's clever enough to see through his depression that there are people in New York who are there, who do care, and can be connected to, therefore there is hope on the other side of his rut. Now it's up to him to fix his life.

    H.... A....

It's life in our modern neoliberal times
    Pretty grim

    H.... A....

I just came reading your description

    H.... A....

Hello All you must be psychologist or smt lol

    H.... A....

Hello All. You made me cry, you fukin asshole!

    H.... A....

No, it's about subway being a porno

  42. J.... z....

  47. o.... ....

"It is up to me now, turn on the bright lights." So hauntingly beautiful. So Interpol.

  48. j.... b....

They need Carlos back they need there creativity back

  49. D.... L....

Just incredible. This band is just insane.

  50. R.... B....

Can some Make a version of this with captions?

  51. F.... ....

It's up to me now to turn on the bright lights <3

  52. g.... p....

In my opinion there is no doubt that the song has to do with 11-09-2001. It speaks for this the sadness of their faces and the sublimated reference to the planes that recurs repeatedly in the video.

    g.... p....

Agree... and you can also make out diggers and cranes, presumably from the clean up

  53. L.... H....

"spending these lonely nights training myself not to care" this line came back to memory today, and it fits so well because it's exactly what I'm doing right now, "training myself not to care [about others]" and being my own light. I never felt this way so strongly in my life. I tried to keep someone in my life because I thought maybe for once I deserve it and now I see it only brings pain. I tried being open, honest and vulnerable, but I'm a mess. I rather not care anymore and just move on in life on my own. It was wrong to think someone would come out of the blue and change a life-long pattern.

  54. J.... C....

Buena rola al mero estilo britanico.

  55. N.... M....

Why are the first few seconds of the song cut off? ☹️

  56. M.... C....

I don't know why but when I even a little bit drunk I feel the urge to listen to some Interpol songs and to sing along.

  57. G.... G....

I am sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care.

  58. D.... m....

Enserio que antes de chico mi banda favorita eran los beatles pero ahora lo es interpol, tienen canciones de todo tipo y todas están hermosas, casi siempre son muy sad como está pero tocan hermoso estos tipos

  59. M.... N....

    a 26 personas les gustan Maluma y J Balvin -_-

  60. P.... B....

My father used to hear this song when it came out, shortly after I was born. No I am recreating his steps, hearing the same songs as he did, reworking each step at a time... this gives me a more optmistic feeling, that things will change, that I will be happy one day, at the end of the road, I will be a great man.

    P.... B....

    i feel ya bruh

  61. M.... F....

Don't look back in anger music

  62. e.... s....

I actually really like this video, it feels so haphazard, uncertain and ever-changing, dark yet strangely calming. It gives me the impression of being young, in a world where hope has been significantly shaken, where you feel lost in the fast-paced, dynamic world, having no idea where you'll end up but simply stumbling across life because that's your best shot; also 1:10 Carlos with his perfect eyelashes and hair waving in the wind, becoming one with the music and atmosphere, just, wonderful

  63. i.... i....

Hauntingly beautiful song... my heart and soul are bleeding, but this feel gives me a pure joy

  64. m.... L....

    Love this song....

  65. s.... ....

First heard this album after the 911 atrocities, such a beautiful song, such a beautiful video

  66. S.... F....

this, leif erikson, and The new always get to me. Just the feeling of those songs will forever be my favorite by them

    S.... F....

What happened why cant they write anything as good since?

    S.... F....

bengalitucktuck although songs of this caliber are far and few between, paul has still proven he can write solid tracks. el pintor had great lyrics in my opinion but marauder did leave a lot to be desired

    S.... F....

    @bengalitucktuck Carlos left!

    S.... F....

In my opinion PDA is one of the greatest songs written

    S.... F....

@bengalitucktuck Pace is the trick, Pioneers to the fall, All the rage back home, No I in threesome, Cmere, Evil are pretty solid tunes. What are you taking about?

  67. R.... B....

If its up to me to turn on the bright lights, they will always be turned on. I love your body the way it is and you can feel comfortable like a real woman.
