I'm going to get flack for this... but I believe Phyllis was a greater singer than Aretha and Whitney... because Phyllis could act out the drama of the song, and feel every emotion like a great actress... I always saw Aretha and Whitney singing beautifully but not really LIVING the lyrics, they were always aloof (like Barbra Streisand). Phyllis has more in common with somebody like Judy Garland, who felt every part of the song and was torn up by it.
