Horton, Johnny - The Same Old Tale The Crow Told Me Lyrics
Well a tom cat sittin' on a bale of hay
And a bulldog a-sittin' on the ground
I went and fetched the bulldog's tail
And they went around and around and around
They went around and around
It's the same old tale that the crow told me
Way down yonder by the sycamore tree
It's the same old tale that the crow told me
Way down yonder by the sycamore tree
Well I had an old cow and she slobbered so bad
Spent all my money that I ever had
I went and asked the doctor what to do about it
He said I'd have to teach the old cow how to spit
He said I'd have to teach the old cow how to spit
A humpback man went to a football game
The game was called off on account of rain
The humpback went to get his quarter back
The fullback kicked the hump off of the humpback's back
He kicked the hump off the humpback's back
Well I just found out my hams so high
Only two hind legs on a hog that's flyin'
Cross it with an octopus and ham will come down
The hog in the middle and ham all around
Hog in the middle and ham all around

One of the original rockabilly performers. One of a kind! You knew a Johnny Horton song the first few seconds it was played . He’s one of my favorites ever
Good stuff
Great singer. Great songs.
The song is an old folk ballad, as performed by Walter Smith, also covered by his band the Carolina Buddies, back in the nineteen twenties or thirties. You may find these versions on YouTube. This original version was later revived by the New Lost City Ramblers during the folk revival of the 1960s.
Has anyone ever heard the "b" side of Battle of New Orleans. Song called Donald get your trousers?

Harold Bradley is the banjo player. He did Johnnies records, and hes in the H.O.F. not johnny! duh!
Ron McMunn No disrespect to Harold, but I think Johnny should be in the HOF too.
Ron McMunn Was Harold a studio musician? I had never heard of him.
Ron McMunn I did google Harold Bradley. It was very interesting.
Jennifur Sun He was a guitarist and an entrepreneur. It doesn’t say what kind of business he did.

I went and pinched the bulldog's tail, and they went around and around and around.
They went around and around.

Well I just found out why ham is so high. Only two hind legs on a hog that's why.
But cross him with an octopus and ham will come down.
There'll be hog in the middle and the ham all around. Be hog in the middle and the ham all around.

This song is the origin of the line from the Grateful Dead song: Uncle John's Band: "It's the same story the crow told me, it's the only one he knows. Like the morning sun you come, and like the wind you go."
The song is an old folk ballad, as performed by Walter Smith, also covered by his band the Carolina Buddies, back in the nineteen twenties or thirties. You may find these versions on YouTube. This original version was later revived by the New Lost City Ramblers during the folk revival of the 1960s.

Freds custom tackle
I love this, music
Anyone care to explain the lyrics, to me it sounds like he was tripping balls?
no hillbilly in you huh?
wonder who played banjo on this song
It's probably Grady Martin who was the musical arranger on al of his Columbia sessions. and yes, Grady also played banjo.
A rare find thanks for posting this hard to find this version
love this old stuff
This was one of the 45s Mom had bought; I also played "Mule Skinner Blues" by The Fendermen a lot too.
I always loved this song as a kid. My grandmother kept an old turntable that my mother had bought when she was a teenager. It was the flip side to "Sink the Bismarck"; I'm sure I wore this side out listening to it so much. This song would be an absolute blast to perform at some point for me.
Now this is what you call music
Yeah bro
ima stick to my lil skies
you right
I love all of Johnny Horton's songs. He was one of the greatest singers of all times.
Amen to all that. One of the very best.
A bulldog's call to arms sounds like to me
