So, Why am I lonely?

For me, this song will forever be a reminder of my lonely nights spent in a completely unknown place in a foreign country where I came to study. Even after a few months I still didn't manage to fit in, I didn't get any friends... I constantly feel out of place. Uni is not as I imagined. It's not as entertaining, crazy and amazing as my previous high school. People are cold and distant. I have an irresistible feeling that I have already lived my best time and life will never be as happy as it used to be.
As I walk in the evening and listen to this song, I recall my family and best friends I left behind. I miss them. There really is no place like home.

I was Stationed overseas in Korea, I got depressed, I wanted to go home to my family but then I realized there really wasn't a family to go home to; Just a broken and lost resemblance of my family. I wanted to go home to my beautiful house, happy parents, my oldest brother visiting from college, my other brother ready to play connect four. I knew that when I did go home there was just going to be a mother struggling, a distant brother, estranged father, and brother in prison. That home wasn't there anymore, I would just listen to this song thinking of my home that use to be and knowing that there was no place like it that made me feel so safe and happy.

Honne = 本音 direct translation, which means true voice, true voice from heart. And since some album covers of them have 本音 on top, I guess this is what their name means (and maybe one of them knows Japanese).

They're derived from an actual japanese concept, Honne and Tatemae. I don't know much about it but if i recalled it correctly, it's about 2 different versions of ourselves, one is Honne, "true feelings", and one is Tatemae, "façade". Correct me if I'm wrong. 😁

I was in Japan for the entire summer this year, which was the worst and best summer ever..long story lol. During the flight back home this song came up on my spotify playlist, and I started to cry quietly, because everyone on the plane was already sound asleep. Now, every time I hear this song I just start to reminisce my time in that beautiful country.

This song means something so different to me... it reminds me of the times I lived out of a backpack... it brings back nostalgia... that home is being on the move, not recognising anything, being lost on new streets, tiring of being anywhere longer than a week. Because if your home is wherever you are, you never have to repeat being lost and alone.
