Holly, Buddy - That's My Desire Lyrics

To spend one night with you in our old rendezvous
And reminisce with you, that's my desire
To meet where gipsies play down in some small cafe
And dance till break of day, that's my desire

We'll sip a little glass of wine, I'll gaze into your eyes divine
To feel the touch of your lips pressing on mine

To hear you whisper low just when it's time to go
"Cheri I love you so," that's my desire
We'll sip a little glass of wine, I'll gaze into your eyes divine
To feel the touch of your lips pressing on mine

To hear you whisper low just when it's time to go
"Cheri I love you so," that's my desire

Buddy was such a talent, its too bad he had so little time. He does a great job on this song. The movie Buddy Holly is pretty good. I bought his first single and several of the later song. "That Well be the day" was on Brunswick, most of the rest were Coral.
Not long after he died, i was working in a grocery after school, they played popular music
    on the speaker system.
It played " Raining in My Heart" a poignant moment.

Love the pictures! The cover photo (that appears at 1:01) was taken by my dad, Dick Cole. It was at Electric Park in Waterloo, Iowa. You can see my dad's signature on the left side of the photo, Buddy's is on the right.

I just came across this. Buddy is my absolute favorite. He is "The King" in my heart and mind. I love this song, especially since he says my name in it! Thanks for posting this! :-)

  7. L.... D....

Yes, He is the true king !!

  8. B.... ....

And another song that I never heard before, of this great man!

  9. w.... ....

Al Caiola plays lead guitar on this song. Donals Amone rhythm guitar.

  10. m.... ....

    Buddy the true king

  11. T.... C....

    PURE CLASS! . . . . .love it!

  12. G.... B....

i can feel it brother, what about Jimi, im not sure if he has but i feel J was the same

  13. P.... ....

i also suspect that he used a 'thinnish plectrum..as if you play holly style guitar (lot's of downstrokes'),you can get it 'trapped between strings with a thick' plectrum..the thin plectrum 'gives away' without getting stuck.+ a thick plectrum can make the string wobble too much (over the pickup),

  14. P.... ....

i agree...buddy did one thing that no one has repeated' EVEN to this day!!!! what was it.....''every song that buddy recorded is different'!!!! NO two holly songs are similar' amazing(AND no one has EVER said this before(except me???)

  15. P.... ....

yup' it was a 55 model that he got second hand(which was stolen in '58)

  16. P.... ....

i remember hearing about this recording, while i was a teenager in london in the early 60's..it was released in the later 60's together with maybe baby (first version)

  17. J.... L....

  23. O.... ....

wow-didn't know Buddy did this-very kool audio/video. I've never seen live shots of him like this-excellent! I do a humble tribute version of "Rave On." Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock).

  24. f.... ....

this is so under played. its a beautiful version (the best ) buddy holly - genius

  25. H.... D....

@biggerthanacadillac Buddy was playing straight Hillbilly and Country until he saw Elvis perform. So while he may have been more involved at pursuing music Elvis cut "My Happiness" in early 1953 and turned out the "Sun Sessions" in 1954 which became the shot-heard-around-the-world and kicked off the Rock-A-Billy phase.Buddy himself said "If not for Elvis none of us would have made it" Buddy may have had more talents-singer-composer-lyricist Ect. But his talent DID NOT surpass Elvis.

  26. K.... O....

@buddyfan57 Buddy's wife at the time of his death is still alive, as of 2009 anyways. She was at the Memorial Concert in Clear Lake, Iowa in Feb. 2009- along with Ritchie Valens' family and JP Richardson's family. There is a YT clip of the concert.

  27. N.... G....

I like this version but I can't download it.

  28. R.... N....

and that takes NOTHING from Elvis' amazing talents, but remember Buddy was focussed on his 'calling' whilst EP was still a truck-driving 'dandy' on Beale Street & dreaming of making a SUN disc for his Ma where he'd sound like ~~BING CROSBY!! The major difference was LOOKS..........Elvis had 'em whilst BH had poor eyesight, 'graveyard' teeth [B4 he had 'em fixed!] & was 'gangly' & didn't THINK he had the visual IMAGE & was VERY conscious of this. EP was a glorious style accident, BH was a MUSO!

  29. R.... N....

Really have to acquaint a LOT of folks re BH facts & dispel SOME deeply embedded myths which are constantly developing around the late GREAT genius from Lubbock. He started muso-ing c.1949..older brothers used would grease his violin strings for fun, he was mid-west BIG in v. early 50's with Bob Montgomery as "Buddy & Bob"...BH got the break, Bob encouraged him selflessly. He had that UNIQUE vocal gift/voice as did Louis Armstrong. Unmistakeable. He' done it all B4 Elvis first entered SUN studio

  30. J.... O....

@ashuk1000 Paul McCartney owns the music publishing.

  31. R.... ....

I never heard anything bad come from Buddy Holly.

  32. m.... ....

I know this a Buddy forum, but Patsy Cline does this song, too, and its really good like Buddy's.

  33. R.... C....

  39. S.... S....

Your wife is lucky to have you! As a music lover, if I could relive my life, that is what I would have wanted. I was briefly engaged to a wonderful musician. He played a medly of Neal Sedaka songs on piano, & I will never forget the memory of that! Neil's music is wonderful for piano.

  40. f.... ....

what a sublime song this is. one of the great buddy songs

  41. J.... ....

    How beautiful.

  42. R.... C....

Thanks for that Buddyfan, really enjoyed it.....I saw Buddy & two of the Crickets perform at The Croydon Empire when he toured England...many memories, I proposed to my late wife listening to this song....not Buddy's version. Thanks again.

  43. P.... S....

Maria Elena Holly is still alive, she is 72 years old, there is plenty of imfomation about her if you type her name into google.

  44. P.... S....

I have this track on a single, it is on the Coral lable with Maybe Baby on the flipside, not the origional by the Crickets, but just by Buddy on his own, it was relaesed in England in the early 1960s.
Thanks for all your Buddy and Everlys stuff you have great musical taste.
