Holly, Buddy - Slippin' And Slidin' Lyrics

Slippin' and a-slidin', peepin' and a-hidin'
Been told a long time ago-ho-ho-oh-woh
Slippin' and a-slidin', peepin' and a-hidin'
Been told a long time ago-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho
I've been told, baby, you've been bold
I won't be your fool no more

Oh, big conniver, nothin' but a jiver
I done got hip to your ji-i-i-i-i-ive
Oh, big conniver, nothin' but a jiver
Done got hip to your ji-i-i-i-i-ive
Slippin' and a-slidin', peepin' and a-hidin'
And I won't a-be your fool no more

Oh, my Linda, she's a solid sender
You know you better surrender
Oh, my Linda, she's a solid sender
You know you better surrender
Slippin' and slidin', peepin' and hidin'
And I won't be your fool no more

Slippin' and a-slidin', peepin' and a-hidin'
Been told a long time-a time ago-ho-ho-oh-woh
Slippin' and a-slidin', peepin' and a-hidin'
Been told a long time ago-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho
I've been told, baby, you've been bold
I won't be your fool no more

The Day Music Died. I was born in 1990. So I cant ever say I met Buddy Holly our was around during his time. However for some strange reason I miss him.

  10. v.... ....

    Rocknroll

  11. K.... ....

This Holly version sounds like it was recorded in the mid to late sixties. Was that background r guitar added to the track years later?

    K.... ....

In the weeks before he died Buddy Holly recorded demos known as the apartment tapes. These demos were made in his New York apartment with just him, his guitar, one microphone and a tape player. This is one of the demos. These tapes were discovered after his death. This is one of those songs that was later dubbed and released. Some of the songs are original songs that he wrote. These original recordings are on YouTube as the apartment tapes.

  12. R.... M....

Little Richard is credited with co-writing this song with three others back in '55. In '56, he releases a recording of it on the B side of Long Tall Sally. John Lennon in 1975 on the Old Grey Whistle Test show, did this song (with horns).

  13. M.... B....

    He's a bird doooog!!!!

  14. T.... L....

    Psychedelic masterpiece

  15. C.... L....

I was only12yrs old when Buddy Holly died but l remember how great his music was even though l was infatuated with Elvis too...

    C.... L....

Thanks for the nice comment, Carol.

  16. W.... B....

    Its a Little Richard song

  17. C.... H....

This was also in John Lennon's juke box

    C.... H....

And John did this song on his Rock n Roll album 1975- i was 7 when i bought that album introducing me to all the 50's songs

  18. P.... M....

    I love this...

  19. t.... k....

Let the world never forget the music of buddy holly. RIP 🎸🎸🎸

    t.... k....

Had he lived, he would've changed music even more than he did, I believe. Funny thing to me about this song is that Little Richard's version, even though he wrote it, is not as good as this Buddy Holly version or that of John Lennon on his Rock & Roll album. " Done got hip to your jive ".

  20. p.... h....

I love this tune , though the gene Vincent version was for yrs my fave ,this tune shows the quality in buddys music and how ahead of its time it really was !!of course any number of buddys songs showcase a tender thoughtful and forward thinking his music was and is and still influences many young and talented bands , anyone who ain't heard of buddy Holly must be living on the moon !

  21. M.... G....

He had to die to make the music live forever

  22. J.... H....

I'm here because Jason Pierce said it's the greatest psych song of all time. Pretty nice indeed :)

    J.... H....

yet he said the chocolate watch band are better than the beatles. guy's spent a heap of his life HIGH, luv.

    J.... H....

If you listen to the slow version on the apartment tapes, it makes more sense as a psych song... tremolo guitar and lower pitched vocals...

    J.... H....

tbwatch88 oi ‘ello gov’nah fahk awf

    J.... H....

    not psych

  23. .... ....

  26. n.... w....

some parts of it sounds like everly brothers bird dog

  27. A.... G....

yeah, buddy was ahead, little bit more of speed

  28. P.... V....

I actually like this version of Slippin' and Sliddin' better than Little Richard's original version, and that is one of my favorites by Little Richard!

    P.... V....

    You cant be serious

    P.... V....

    @Marco Z Piano rockers....yuch!!

    P.... V....

    Try Dickie Pride's cover.

  29. C.... d....

Similar guitar riff to "Bird Dog," by the Everly Bros.

    C.... d....

Corno di Bassetto I was thinking the same thing.

    C.... d....

All up to the run down and the verses.

    C.... d....

Corno di Bassetto........Buddy Holly wrote several tunes for Phil and Don but they might not have been released due to contractual restrictions. 1-11-19

  30. h.... ....

    THIS is rock and roll!

  31. B.... C....

Nothing like this any more...RIP BUDDY.

  32. A.... M....

    Ahead of his time.

    A.... M....

Al M. I first heard this buddy holly track in the 60s and was blown away by it I thought it was so far a head of the it's time.

    A.... M....

Oh goodness wasn't he? He is the best of the best. If only he wasn't taken away at such a early age, could you imagine what he would have done? R.I.P Buddy

    A.... M....

This song is echoed in a substantial part of Marc Bolan's work, to my ear. :)

  33. G.... M....

I'd say one this is of the three best versions on the planet of this so-often-covered song. Y'know, I gotta ask: what makes Buddy's arrangements so compelling? I mean he's got a great voice too, of course, w/ many styles incl. a trademark rockin stutter and a beautiful quiet croon, but Think It Over ;+} ---what is it that makes us all be able to, and want to, listen to a song by him over and over? Is it the great hooks, even in the solos, combined with the hypnotic repetition, the knowledgeably minimal drums changing just slightly enough to constantly re-convince us of the wonderfulful DRIVINGNESS of each song?? Anyway, OH yeah! I mean, he inspired everybody with this combo of stuff. 'Course our Beatles wouldnt've been the Beatles without him.

    G.... M....

Guy Michel , u obviously dig him as much as me , I love the g.v version of this too! But if I had to make a choice I couldn't they're both exceptional !! And the reason of that "driven"beat quality is enhanced by his exceptional drummer/friend Jerry Allison , they don't make em like that now days !! Exceptionally excellent!!!

    G.... M....

They added the other guitar and drums and other shit to this song after Buddy died i hate it - i love the one with just buddy !!!

  34. D.... Q....

Love it. What an amazing talent Buddy was. Lost him way too early. Such a tragedy the day the music died 38 years ago Feb. 3, 1959

    D.... Q....

+Doug Quidam  Hmmm, I guess we count different around here. I count 58 as of Feb. 03, 2017. It's O.K., we roll fat joints too.

    D.... Q....

    Oops. Yeah, 58 years ago.

  35. L.... C....

    Damned airplane

    L.... C....

A lot of people have said that it was the snow that caused that plane to crash

    L.... C....

Thomas Moon damn plane AND FUCK FARGO N.D.!!! HATE THAT SHIT HOLE OF THE PRAIRIES!!! BISMARCK/MANDAN N.D. MUCH BETTER!!!

    L.... C....

David Weiner No, it was pilot error. He was not certified to fly by navigation with instruments only. The gyroscope in the plane was one he was not used to. It was backwards, so when you pulled back on the stick it showed that the plane was descending and not lifting like a normal gyroscope. It was mainly pilot error. But that plane should of never left the ground.

    L.... C....

    R.I.P buddy

    L.... C....

+Ltrain44 I totally agree with you. I was not there at the time and I was only 11 yrs' old. That being said, If you put two and two together you get a pretty good idea what happen and it's not pretty. Being only 5 miles from the runway and head back in that direction you can assume that the pilot was already in deep shit. The air speed indicator was frozen at 170 mph. How does an aircraft lose lift so suddenly like that ? The pilot's fault or the Owner's fault ?

  36. c.... s....

    Buddy was the best!

    c.... s....

BETTER THAN ELVIS FOR ME Jerry from Czech Republic

  37. T.... L....

Nice this is his style but he needs horns on this number !

  43. J.... L....

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BY BUDDY !!!
    BUDDY WAS AWESOME !!!!

  44. M.... ....

    you're welcome... ;-)

  45. P.... ....

Buddy rules for sure, but Wanda Jackson and Little Richard did amazing versions of this. Particularly Wanda's. She's off the proverbial hook.

  46. .... ....

    Thanks for sharing! :D

  47. J.... H....

my favorite version, never liked the "slow" version of this song

    J.... H....

Funnily enough, I prefer the slow version! Takes all sorts!

  48. t.... ....

This does sound like an early Prince sound LOL, Just goes to show what people don't know about the impact! of the genius and influence of Buddy Holly and the Cricketts!

  49. t.... ....

In the Waylon jennings Autobio, he said Buddy heard the Chipmunks and thought their voices were the coolest thing, so he recorded the song slow and when done sped it up to get the same effect, but reackon it didn't come out as the brass wanted out of him

  50. M.... ....

    @Buddy19591 ;) tnx

  51. p.... ....

@ode2joy4u I'm not a big fan of the overdubbed songs, but this is the best of the lot of them. I realize that's not saying much.

  52. M.... ....

    @Studas2006 thx ;)
