Holly, Buddy - Peggy Sue Got Married Lyrics

Please don't tell, no-no-no
Don't say that I told you so
I just heard a rumour from a friend
I don't say that it's true
I'll just leave that up to you
If you don't believe I'll understand
You recall a girl that's been in nearly every song
This is what I heard, of course the story could be wrong
She's the one, I've been told
Now, she's wearing a band of gold
Peggy Sue got married not long ago

You recall a girl that's been in nearly every song
This is what I heard, of course the story could be wrong
She's the one, I've been told
Well, she's wearing a band of gold
Peggy Sue got married not long ago
Peggy Sue got married not long ago

Holly, Buddy Peggy Sue Got Married Comments

the Jack Hanson Combo overdubbed all of the Apartment Tapes but they wernt considered up to date the Norman Petty got them and had the Fireballs provide the musicial backing and did so on another 8 songs .and this song is the Fireballs version.

  2. v.... ....

    Classic Buddy Holly record .

  3. B.... C....

If I'm not mistaken, this was a rerelease of the original song, with band and additional vocals added. I was working in radio at the time. But these are simply tracks that were overdubbed. The song was originally recorded in mono by Buddy in his apartment, using only one mike and a mono tape recorder. A mono recording canno be "remixed" into stereo unless you have the original studio masters and only if they were recorded on separate tracks. Great song, though.

  7. E.... J....

Bubby Holley was one of the best singers ever. So sad he had to die so young.

  8. H.... G....

Good song. Should have left it as it was. Just Buddy and his acoustic guitar. These don’t sound bad, though.

  9. A.... T....

Buddy lives on with his fabulous songs and music and billy fury but these are all good aswel

I'm with Drive-In RetroReels here. This recording is in straight-out MONO. Close listening on headphones proves it!

Sem dúvidas ele fôra o musico mais completo , alem dê sua humildade como pessoa ná época . Elvis fôra o rei do rock end roll devido a morte prematura do amigo Buddy . Caso contrário , a historia seria bem diferente .

  18. L.... P....

Buddy Holly, you are The one.

  19. A.... D....

This is different... it is in beat at the end of the second bridge, though not in stereo there is a great beat correction here ;-) The original overdubbed release had a slight delay in the music because they rushed a tad and 'swang' one beat slower for the tape of Buddy to catch up. Here however it is beat perfect... well done! I did the same in audacity but suffered some clicks...You took elements from the first bridge.. aha!

  20. J.... R....

    This is the best

  21. I.... ....

I have to agree with other comments that this is not stereo but enhanced mono if there is such a thing. Not stereo. This version incidentally is the original take of the song with the overdubs added later of course and was the exact version that appeared on the 'Buddy Holly - Greatest Hits' MCA records mid priced compilation of the 1970s (the cover was grey with yellow and pink/purple squares with an image of Buddy) - I know this because I had the vinyl LP at the time - the version on 'Buddy Holly Lives - 20 Golden Greats' was the enhanced mix that eventually was a single release after Buddy had died. I believe there is a third version of the song but recorded by The Crickets featuring David Box on vocal.

    I.... ....

IanWelland are you a music maestro? You are blooming knowledgeable anyway!

    I.... ....

This version was also on the compilation, "Buddy Holly Lives" with the cover art being a wall with those words on it as graffiti. And it's in MONO! If there was ever a stereo mix of this song, it would've surfaced long before now.

  22. C.... M....

    sounds good anyway!

  23. P.... S....

If anyone takes a crack at this song with mono to stereo remixing software, please bury those annoying background vocals further back in the mix. So cheesy. I can't see BH being happy with this.

  24. M.... R....

It's only mono. I can't hear any stereo at all. But the quality is great.

    M.... R....

Yes. There was a tape machine Buddy had bought that he used in his New York apartment to record himself, his wife and other things. But they were just mono recordings. This original song is on his ‘From The Apartment’ album.

  25. H.... M....

Hell! It sounds good because, This is a mono recording from the start. You can enhance it to sound stereo, But! It's Simulated Stereo. You will hear the same sound on both channels. One or both mono tracks get equalized, Add delay on one channel and a touch of reverb and Ta DA Fake Stereo.

  26. S.... ....

Grande Buddy Holly, non esistera' mai uno come lui

  27. S.... M....

On the commercial CD of the Hopkins reconstructions, there was a labeling error: the track labeled "mono" is really the stereo mix, and vice versa. So this rendition, which the YouTube host picked up as "stereo," is indeed the mono version.

  28. K.... B....

Subtle time differences in the mix and EQ variations channel to channel does not create a stereo mix from a mono tape. Unfortunately, this is one of Buddy's overdubbed songs that does not exist in a stereo version from the Jack Hansen Combo overdubs.

  29. C.... ....

    Mono defo

  30. D.... R....

Obviously Mr. Hopkins doesn't know the difference between mono and stereo. Oh....and by the way.... you can't remix mono. Mono is mono. There is no "mix" to mono. What you hear is what you get.

    D.... R....

You can use audio extraction software to create true stereo from mono recordings. Unfortunately, this ain't it!

    D.... R....

    There was no stereo then

    D.... R....

Something you "create" can't be "true"

    D.... R....

You're right, especially with a group of several people. When they decided to create stereo versions of the Leadbelly recordings they put a speaker in the middle of a room, played back the original mono recording over that one speaker and recorded that with microphones in stereo. Since it was just one person with a guitar, the speaker became a point source, and replicated the situation that would have pertained had Leadbelly been sitting there, but the new recording added the ambience of the room. They sounded pretty good.
You couldn't do that with a group. This Buddy Holly recording sounds awful. The only way you could get anything reasonable would be to take a recording of Buddy just singing on his own with guitar, and repeat the above process. Then you could dub in extra instruments in stereo. The fact is, most stereo nowadays is synthetic, and the vocalist is put in the centre. That's why you can remove the vocalist from a lot of modern recordings, by deducting the right channel from the left.

    D.... R....

The term stereo came out but this song was overdubbed twice. Once, like you hear here, and another time with better backing instruments. This came from his ‘Apartment Tapes’ disc with the music not added. Just Buddy and his guitar.

  31. W.... G....

    Stereo???

  32. t.... ....

It sounds good even if it isn't stereo. In my Holly playlist with the demo, covers by David Box, & Fleeetwiod Mac

  33. P.... Y....

I think I need new headphones or ears, to me this is mono.

    P.... Y....

Yes it was mono. Buddy Holly just had a reel to reel tape machine he bought from his producer, Norman Petty and he just recorded himself and his acoustic guitar. There are other things like his wife singing and a lot more of Buddy, too. You need to buy ‘From the apartment’ album. Sounds great.

  34. A.... W....

At the start of this record there's a pic of Buddy dressed in a very sharp sports jacket and pants...every time I see him wearing these clothes it reminds me of the "guy"on the right, in the background of The Beatles "Abbey Road" album...check it out!

    A.... W....

    SGT Peppers Album cover maybe??

    The KING!!!!!

    H.... H....

Elvis was, is and always will be the KING. "If not for Elvis, all the rest of us, combined, couldn't have made rock and roll" - Buddy Holly. Buddy was GREAT, the first rock and roll artist to write, play, sing and produce his own music.

  38. S.... H....

    Great song

  39. J.... ....

The other day, out of no where, I started singing this. Hope that was from the Lord since my name IS Peggy Sue after the original song.

  44. t.... ....

Wondering the same thing, actually...I do know a stereo version on the Purple Chick set, wondered if it was the same...sad that any stereo mix seems to have disappeared

  45. w.... ....

Who knows: who took the decision for Jack Hansen Combo for overdub?

  46. M.... L....

    Great Tune ;) No One Can Play A Fender Like Him .. R I P Buddy :(

  47. c.... ....

What happened here? Since my previous post, the audio of this upload has been changed. It no longer sounds like stereo at all, just average quality altered mono.

  48. c.... ....

Hi. Does this original (overdubbed version) only exist in mono? I recall some of the Hansen dubs are available from a three track master. If this tune (this version) is only on mono tape, then I do applaud this effort. Much better than any of the digital "fake stereo from mono" tricks availabe. Cheers

  49. S.... M....

VERY nice! Hats off to the mixer, who fixed the "stumble" in the rhythm during the second bridge. (There is one false beat in the 1959 overdubbed version, which is evident if you compare it with the vocal-only demo.)

  50. t.... ....

    awesome!

  51. L.... B....

    Superb!
