Hollies, The - Long Dark Road Lyrics
It's over, well over
In my mind and in my heart
It's over, well over
But then again it didn't have a good start
It could have been all I asked
It's over, well over
It's there and flows away
A distant past
[Chorus:]
Now it's a long dark road
Yes, a long dark road
And you know I loved you
Yes, you know I loved you
[Chorus]
It's over, well over
And we can't revive what's past
It's gone now, moved on now
But then again it didn't have a chance to last
No, no, no, a chance to last
[Chorus]

Hollies, The Long Dark Road Comments
I was gonna write a long reason why this song is awesome to me... but our story is only our story only but “next up” erased my perfect comment.. force your kids to listen to this whole album on a road trip.. they won’t regret it. I’ll pay you back with interest
She broke my heart, still getting over it, going on a year now. I've loved this song since I was a kid. Hearing it again makes me feel just a bit better, but I still keep seeing her while I listen to it....
Love the vocals!!!
One great song that should have been a much bigger hit, one of my top three by them. Now this is ( PERFECT ) music to play all day.
Hollies =Alotta Great Songs....
"Long Cool Womman" was good, but this was perfect.
absolutely love the harmonies in this song
A great Hollies song that many people have never heard of is 'Another Night'.
one of the best break up songs ever. really tells it like it is. loved this one since i 1st heard it.
This music must be kept alive!!! Karen Lynch
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
great song, tht isnt recognized. it never goes out of style for me, at least. love hearing it.it is a long dark road after a breakup. sometimes ppl love each other but it still isnt right, for whatever reason, and someone has to walk away.
The Hollies Best Song Ever, & The Best Song Of 1972!
There is no folly in liking the hollies
I wish we could revive all these old hits!!! Anyone else agree? Have any ideas? Karen Lynch
Karen Lynch It's so sad we don't have artists today who can even shine the shoes of The Hollies!! What musicians we had then. Thank you all.
Right? The old mechanical echo chambers and tape slap echo effect is incredible! Will ALWAYS love this band!! Why the hell can't we have music like this today? Make sure kids today hear this!!
Emotional lyrics, great harmonies! Remember when musicians could actually sing harmonies? With meaningful lyrics? Not anything like it anymore!
I always felt the Hollies were significantly better than the Beatles! Better vocals, better arrangements, better songs!!! The Hollies blew the Beatles out of the water!
My favorite Hollie's song. I'll never get tired of hearing it!
back in 72, i was hanging out at Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, brings back so many good memories
No offense, but by that time it was over. The heydays were 66-67.
Should have been # 1............Favorite song by the Hollies!
NICE TO KNOW THERE'S OTHER HOLLIES FANS OUT THERE!! GREAT BAND!!
A great band indeed.
Hollies unknow best songs
My favorite, too!!
remember multiplex sound that ringing kind of echo enhancing stereo button on tape players this song gave you what for on 12 string guitars .
back in the day when we were Fab!
,,,memories of skating around a dumpy bt cool rink in 1967,,,
Awesome tune!
This song reaches me so deep
Great music! uTube is the best time machine available, we are 16 again with our whole lives in front of us, thanks
I'm not sure when Graham Nash left the Hollies but I think it was before this song. Regardless, a great song. Always loved it.
King Jumo you are correct--he was gone by the time this was released
Graham moved to the US Dec. 8, 1968. On Dec. 10 he was in studio with David Crosby and Stephen Stills doing you know the rest.....
The Hollies' best song ever. Never got the recognition it deserved.
Lorraine Dalu yes for suer
Amen! I heard it during my freshmen year in college. Great tune!
Lorraine Dalu 100% correct. When I tell people Long Dark Road is the Hollies best song, they look at me confused
Anthony Scumaci because it’s not
Great music, back when lyrics were more than a confusing mix of babble, thanks for posting....Iam 14 again with the my whole life in front of me.
Notice that the running time on the 45 is listed as 3:25--but the single is considerably longer than that. Was it geared towards Top 40's general aversion to long songs, even after Hey Jude & MacArthur Park & American Pie?
great catch, I'm blown away by your question, I know quite a bit about music, never thought about this question, but will do some research on that. Damb good question though!
What about "Light My Fire"?
Saw the hollies at wolf trap in the early 80s. Great concert.
Great lyrics, Great band, Great sound. = The Hollies ! Tuff.
This is my favorite Hollies song. I have to play it, when I haven't played it in awhile, because I missed it.
Love that harmonica!
John Osweiler MINE TOO, ALWAYS!!
LONG DARK ROAD IS MY FAVORITE SONG BY THEM!! FROM CHRISTI KNAPP!
My thoughts exactly! Love the harmonica also
Fave Hollies Song!
biff van arsdale certainly one of their best
I love this song and the harmony. Tony Hicks (lead vocal), Terry Sylvester, and Mikael Rickfors blend well in their harmony. It's a good change to hear Tony Hicks as lead vocal. Thanks for sharing!
I think Allen was still in the group for this album.
That's Allan on lead vocal here.
that's Allan, but you're almost right, It's an Allan/Tony vocal blend here, not much Terry I think
It is Allan indeed. He is so distinctive. Compare with Tony's vocals on "Look At Life" or his piece in "Carrie Anne".
Wikipedia does state that it is Tony singing lead on the record but this is incorrect - if anyone wants to edit 🙂
A great, poignant song from the Hollies. Very underrated. Allen Clarke left the group (temporarily, as it turned out) shortly after this song, which adds to the heaviness of the lyrics.
Great album!!
A pesar de que el tema de la rola es un tanto pesimista por lo largo y oscuro camino es una cancion muy alegre, mucha sonoridad, y todo por el amor a una mujer. la escuche mucho en los 70´s y se me quedo grabada.
