Hollens, Peter - Loch Lomond Lyrics
[Peter Hollens & David Archuleta:]
By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond
Where me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
O you take the high road, and I'll take the low road
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
[Peter Hollens:]
The wee birdies sing and the wild flowers spring
And in sunshine the waters are sleeping
But the broken heart it kens, nae second spring again
[Peter Hollens & David Archuleta:]
O you take the high road, and I'll take the low road
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond

Hollens, Peter Loch Lomond Comments
I am doing this for chorus
This is arguably the most famous Scottish tune! Far from "forgotten"!
Loch Lomond
By yon bonnie banks,
And by yon bonnie braes,
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond,
Where me and my true love
Were ever want to gae,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Oh! ye'll tak the high road and
I'll tak the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love
Will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
'Twas then that we parted
In yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side of Ben Lomond,
Where in purple hue
The Highland hills we view,
And the moon coming out in the gloaming.
Oh! ye'll tak the high road and
I'll tak the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love
Will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
The wee birdie sang
And the wild flowers spring,
And in sunshine the waters are sleeping,
But the broken heart it kens
Nae second Spring again,
Tho' the waeful may cease frae their greeting.
Oh! ye'll tak the high road and
I'll tak the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love
Will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
スコットランドにはぼくが先に着く;
スコットランドにはぼくが先に着く;
スコットランドにはぼくが先に着く;
だけど、恋人には二度と会えない、
美しい美しいロッホ・ローモンド(湖)の岸辺で。
💙💙💙💙💙💙this is beautiful
Omg!. This was a delight to hear!
First heard this on The Little Rascals when I was a kid! Who else??
When you remember your school called Loch Lomond:
Meh emotions:....

I know you've been removing the end talk from some of your older videos recently (so we can playlist them and not have to skip the talking at the end if we only want to listen to the music), but can you also remove it from this one? Easily one of my favorite tracks from you.
a public execution song
I listen to this weekly, sometimes daily. It's one of my favorite covers ever.
These are all you, all five of them. How did you mix the recordings to appear dping five parts of the harmony? Awesome. I love this.
“Where me and my true love will never meet again”
That hurt
linda linda cançao . i love scotland .
I love this song so much. I think it would me amazing if he did a video with the different parts so people could learn it.
Lock lomd
Well done my friend.
I am not saying this is Bad but
They got they got the song from Red is the Rose by The High Kings which came out 5 years before this
🤷♂️
This song/poem was first published in 1841, and its origins likely go back much further than that. No-one now living can claim credit for it.
Neat visuals, dude.
1.2 million of these views are from me 😂
What is it with most Scottish songs saying Bonnie
I've always adored Scottish songs. I'm not Scottish, but I do know a lot of Scottish songs. I fear it might upset people that I'm American listening to Scottish songs.
Anyone else almost fall asleep listening to him sing btw u could easily sing someone to sleep that's how calming ur singing is
I sang this song at my wife's funeral. I used Peter's vocals as a guide to practice and made it through. Though I and my true love will never meet again I thank you for having this here so that I could honor my love in song one last time.
Until you meet her again....rest easy
I’m sorry for your loss brother, may God give her a peaceful place in heaven.
This song still gives me chills. I love this song. Thank you for such a beautiful, beautiful song 💙💙🥰🥰
beautiful., as always... thank you so..
We sang this in choir <3
Your talented!
Your harmonies, are for the most part, very good. As for your critics, perhaps they don't understand the tradition of Dvorak, i.e., elevating folk music through the full resources of counterpoint. I offer this great arrangement of O Shenandoah, by the late James Erb. Please make sure you listen through the miraculous final verse.

Memories ❤️❤️
Awful .....
When you're bouncing back and forth between this version and the duet with David Archuleta like a lost child, unable to decide which one you love best 💕💕💕
Not really a forgot song
Great. Enjoy our live version too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyq4_42KHzA
Lovely, but you'll ne'er be in Scotland a'fore me!
This is astonishing. Deeply beautiful. Thank you.
Your amazing !
Magnificent
same melody as 'red is the rose'
The story of the song....very sad....https://www.npr.org/transcripts/4766584?storyId=4766584?storyId=4766584
Oh, my god! This song is so sad!😭😭😭😭 I love it.😢
Who else bawls their eyes out after reading the story behind the song?
I love this song these flk songs mean a lot to me
This is so incredibly beautiful, poignant, & emotional. No sugar added. I hear the pain. I hear the hope. This is why I love Traditional Gaelic music, sung the right way by singers who know how to sing. Bravo!
OMG! This brings up a beautiful memory for me. When I was little my mother taught me a song. "...You take the high road, I'll take the low road, I'll be in Scotland before 'ya. On the the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond." Your rendition of it is absolutely amazing. THANK YOU!!
I am personally insecure when it comes to my voice, but it is pretty good overall I was playing a VR game and I started singing to other people and it and they loved it that really helped boost my self confidence.
That was beautiful, Peter. Thank you <3
Thank you. You are of Scotland,
I always think of the singing mother making her baby dance in a kilt.
日本より親愛を込めて
スコットランド万歳!
Very evoking melody, beautiful and tender !...And your interpretation, dear Peter, is absolutely "catchy !....A musical CIAO from Rome, my dear colleague!.....
Honestly as much as I love Peter's voice and talent it just sounds weird not hearing it sung in a Scottish accent like a lot of the words that are meant to be pronounced deliberately excessively Scottish just sound far too posh
LOL well Peter Hollens you got another fan in the form of my mother after she heard me playing your songs from youtube on my google home mini, she went right out and bought a google home mini and got me to teach her how to use it, Her first request was "Ok Google Peter Hollens Folk Songs" she didn't get what she wanted until we figured that out that she wasn't hooked up to youtube premium after she was she hasn't stopped playing your songs since LOL.
EXCELLENT
My band teacher played this in class because it was in our music book and by the end when he turned the lights back on it looked like he was tearing up and going over the story of it made it sadder
The choir I'm in is signing this and it's just beautiful
Same as of October 2019
I’m singing this song rn in my choir class
FuntimeFreddyBoy4/RacingPower19 nice man. Good luck
Peyton Grief Thanks man!

RedRiley89 I’m singing it October 22nd
@RedRiley89 I'm a tenor too
Your folk album has help me though a rough time thankyou @peterhollens
People really need to hear the backstory like Scotland, it’s as sad, beautiful and romantic as this song.
It goes like this...
In 1745 two Jacobite Highland rebels who had been fighting to restore the last true Catholic King to the British throne were captured by government soldiers.
Catholicism had been on its way out in Europe since the reformation and to traditional people such as the clan folk, it represented the true, old Way of life.
The British reprisals for the 1745-6 risings were brutal. In what amounted to a genocide that depopulated the Highlands for two hundred years. This carried out by the secular/Protestant British government. The price these two soldiers would pay was no less harsh. One was to be set free to live a life on the run, a beggar, the other hanged. So the one who was to be executed gave to his friend a poem, a poem written to his true love who lived near Loch Lomond. The poem was the lyrics to this song.
Europe has many such forgotten tales.
Jeeez, good lad!!! That part from 1:37 gets me everytime! Hits right in the feels!
Oh! I've heard this song before! But where?! :o
i feel the same way! i can’t remember and it’s making my brain hurt!!😂
I never get tired of hearing this song. The way you sing this makes me miss home.😊
this just feels to artificial
Please do a cover of The Town I Loved So Well
I saw this and went "Peter Hollens did this!" Super excited super awesome Peter has an amazing voice
Such a sad sad song.
I am a Scotsman at heart. Hope to visit Scotland one day
my mom taught me this song when I was a little girl - we're not Scottish but my grand-mother was a nanny for a prominent Scottish Montreal family and that's where she learned and taught it to my mom. Mom said my grand-mother always spoke English with a slight Scottish brogue
My favourite legendary song... sang by an absolute legend
as a kid used to sing (bits of ) this in the car going from England to Scotland. Always thought the reference to high and low road was over the hills or the lowlands. Nice to know the original meaning (from comments).
So there's this song and "Red is the Rose". Any other songs that have the same melody and where did it originate?
i showed to a coworker and she loved it i also showed a few others and and told them they need to watch it
#effzeh
We're playing this in orchrestra and I love it, it is such a beautiful song to play, listen to and sing
Amest I bovvered?
RIP Marty, he will be missed and he will be kissed
I would love to hear his version of 'i can only imagine' from mercy me
WOW beautiful
This song really touches me. Your voice makes it even more special. Thank you for this! 🙏
Low key loving the harmonies.
Peter Hollens
Can you sing Katyusha
Every time I listen to this song I start to tear up just a little.
This song holds a special place in my heart because it was the first song I performed as a solo, great job ❤️
Should have stuck with the modal feeling and not used so many V-I...Good job, but the contemporary choral arrangement could have paid more tribute to the original melody, at least in the first section.
Groundskeeper Willie brought me here.
This is me favarite song
That was incredible
beatiful and a masing
Found this song decided in gonna listen to it till it gets old well 3 weeks later still listen to it like 20 times a day thank you Peter hollens it was beautifully done
Sang this song as a little kid not knowing the real story behind the words. Heartbreakilng and still one of my favorites.
This song evokes feeling in me like none other. My 4th great grandma Catherine Campbell hailed from Scotland. Such a beautiful job by Peter Hollens.
josh groban???
It would be cooler if he filmed it in Scotland
I am from Indonesia. Far far away from Scotland. Nevertheless, I am raised as a Presbyterian. And somehow this song resonates with my soul. Almost like a church hymn to my ear... God bless the land of Scotland!
Bravo ! Well done ! Thank you-thank you-thank you !
My voice teacher is making me sing this song, I didn't like it at first but this cover made me like it
Awesome need a mix with bagpipes
Giving away this song for free for a limited time! If you love it, own it! Thanks for being part of the Hollensfamily! ► ► http://bit.ly/LochLomondPH
@janet connor : I think it takes more for a good song than just simply a proper accent. Besides there are just like 60,000 people or so who actually speaks gaelic fluently. So I think there are few people out there who would notice the mismatch in pronunciation. Instead be proud of your folk songs, because they are not such a desecration to the human ear like our folks songs (Austria)
Thankyou for the memories 🤗😭
Wait!
you made a mistake at 1st verse.
It is not "will never meet again" but "were ever wont to gae"
which means "ever used to go"
I think at least 1st verse shouldn't be such a sorrowful thing by the context.
I wish you better songs
from South Korea~! ^*^
I hope you enjoy my a cappella songs on my channel, too. :) I like your version, here.
@Iain Duncan Oh, please. No, it's not. And you will never change that fact: We have people here of Scottish descent, who are Americans ONLY by birth.. don't ever forget that. Including "Craig" whom I date.
