Hollens, Peter - Homeward Bound Lyrics

In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime
When adventure's lost its meaning
I'll be homeward bound in time

Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow

If you find it's me you're missing
If you're hoping I'll return
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening
In the road I'll stop and turn
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end
And the path I'll be retracing
As I'm homeward bound again

Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow

In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red
When the summer's *its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime
When adventure's lost its meaning
I'll be homeward bound in time

Peter, I am 71 and one of your Patreon members; you did a beautiful rendition of my favorite song"Homeward Bound" ; I am not surprised that young girl loved this song so much as I believe somewhere inside we all know when we are about to be 'homeward bound' and returning to our Father in Heaven. I believe somewhere inside she knew she was going home soon and she was unaware perhaps of just why she was so happy singing that because going home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has got to be the happiest time in our lives as long as we are living worthily to return to Him. Before I heard your comments about the girl who loved and sang this song without fear of what others might think of her as she sang, I listened to this song because it always brings me to a place of reverie.....you see, this is the song I have picked out to be played at my funeral when I pass on and go through the veil and am homeward bound one day which I hope will not be until I have finished my work on Earth that i promised to complete here for our Father in Heaven. This time however, when I listened to the song, I couldn't help but think how you remind me of my son Michael who is 32 soon, who I had when I was nearly 40. He doesn't write or call or send me cards or gifts or remember me in any way and it has been almost ten years now that he moved out of my home. He has Aspergers Syndrome and he was abused as a child and I raised him mostly alone and helped him become independent and he has nothing to do with me at all which has caused me great pain and suffering over these past ten years. I love him so much and miss him so much. The words of this song make me think of how he felt when he left. "Bind him not to the pasture, chain me not to the plow...set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow..." I just hope he will one day return to me in his heart and show me the love he used to as an innocent boy when I did so much for him.....I miss him so much....thanks for listening

  20. L.... M....

Life is hard. But it isnt good to just give up. I know.. Believe me, i know. I didnt live a happy 15 years. More than half of those years were of me being this close to giving up... but the happy moments outweigh the sad ones anyday. Life is a gift, you have to take advantage of it. No matter what's going on, i will be there to help you... Everyone has mountains to climb, and some of them are taller than others, and the higher you climb, the stronger you'll be. But you can get through it. You will get through it. Through the sunshine and the rain, you need to keep your head held high. You are strong. Far stronger than you think.

Please. I love and appreciate you. Talk to me.

When I heard about who this song was dedicated to and why,
It made me promise to my self; to always sing this song Out LOUD and without Shame.
I’m glad I made that decision because It’s going well, I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable singing in front of others thanks to this,- I just wish it didn’t take this much to make me realize the importance of singing...

R.I.P Lo Korol, an inspiration those who listen.
    🕊

  36. D.... G....

This song has my heart already. In high school I was in a choir where we sung this song everytime we went on tour and came back. It meant tons to me over the years and still does. But this is a beautiful rendition. I definitely loved the tribute that you added at the end. It just added another lovely dimension to an already cherished song.

this hit home. i cried all the way through. I've been struggling with a lot lately and somehow this song gave me so much hope. Especially what you said at the end. It gave me hope that I could love myself again, and love others and trust people and maybe even find some light in the dark world that I am in. So thank you. I know that you will never read this because this is such an old video, but still. Amazing video. Peace.

  42. C.... ....

0:38 i like how Peter makes his clones actually seem real, by interacting with them, like glancing at where they are, and then timing it so they glance back at him.

  43. k.... N....

This song, the way you are singing it, profoundly and exceptionally beautiful in every way. I pray I remember this song for life and play it to all my family and friends. So emotional and full of meaning.

Wow. Such a wonderful performance, and after reading about the (late) sweet girl who loved & sung it, & that the choir had sung it. NO COINCIDENCES. I truly believe that. Definitely divine intervention. Well done, Peter & choir!

  53. J.... B....

    Brilliant!

  54. C.... T....

I would give anything to meet Peter Holland's and his wife and kids, and to, be in one of his videos, I would actually like to do a song with him like watskey and all the other people he's done videos with, like, Tiffany alvord, and Lindsay Sterling, and it would be so cool

  69. V.... P....

  70. l.... ....

My Niece had Stomach Cancer and passed away a few years ago. This was her favorite song as well... and we all sang it at her funeral. Brings tears to my eyes each time I hear it... regardless of who sings it. Thanks Perter.

  71. B.... A....

You sir are a god send.

  72. F.... R....

Peter, this is an old video, but I've just seen it. I've cried so much watching this, and your talk at the end just hit me right in the feels. Time is hard right now, I'm not sure what I can do to keep fighting, but I needed something like this to show me there is still beauty in the world, even out of tragedy. Thank you 💜

  73. m.... w....

Song and singing are very good but I should not have listened to this while chopping onions, however. My eyes are watering from the onions. Yeah, that's it. It is the onions, nothing else. I'm a man so it is the onions. Darn onions. TA Mr. Peter!!

Love comment about not taking things for not taking moments for granted especially considering Nortre Dame fire. Heard stories of tourist who said 'I'll see it next week - it'll still be there.' Not exactly. Do and see what you want now - don't wait for another day. Peace y'all

  74. K.... B....

Beautiful Song I Agree. Celebrate Life

  75. A.... W....

Any one else here cuz they saw the BYU video?

  76. M.... J....

I am sorry to not have been able to meet Io Korol.
She sounds like someone who would be the best friend anyone could hope to have.
But I cried while watching this, even though I had not met her.
I am glad this could be done in her memory.
It really hit me in the feels, and I am now missing my high school choir days more than ever.

  77. A.... V....

    Dear Peter,

I would love to thank you for this beautiful song. I have listened to it only a few times, but not with a connection towards your meaning. Just today, only when I learned about my college's pain for her brother (all I know is that he is in a coma) and I wanted to write her something. I was writing a poem for her and while writing I listened to some music and this one came around.
And it hit me so hard. The tears come running down my face while I sang along with you, and I knew I need her to hear or read this song.

What I am trying to say is: thank you for this beautiful piece of music that touches the heart. Thank you for your sound and I'll pass it around to my college when she is ready. I hope she will find it as powerful as I, but know that you are a true artist Peter.

I wish you well and my gratitude.

  78. G.... S....

we’re learning this in my choir class

  79. L.... S....

    Sooooo sad great job Peter

  82. L.... S....

Peter, I listen to this over and over. It brings me to tears every time.it is beyond beautiful.brings my anxiety,paranoia-ridden being to rest in a way that very few things can.thank you so much to you and everyone who participated in this.this is a gift.

  83. L.... -....

Almost 3 years later and it still hits me hard. The dedication for the song is truly inspiring. Truly.

  84. B.... E....

The title is misleading 300+ kids, it should be 300+ highschool students there voices sounds better than kids. It sounds really good though.

  85. J.... A....

I sing that song in are quare

  86. C.... i....

Hey peter, are you a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of latter Day Saints?

  90. A.... V....

Goosebumps!! I literally got goosebumps from the beginning! Almost like my body knew the end scene would be epic. It did not disappoint! There is just something etherial about many voices singing together.. Love your work Peter <3

  91. J.... K....

    Amaaazzzzziiinggggggg. Love this so much

  92. S.... K....

Beautiful rendition, my man! I've never been to that part of Oregon before, but I used to live in Astoria for nearly two years. I was doing job corps training there. If you haven't been there before, check it out sometime. It's a great town, and the experience of what it's like living by the water is actually really fun.

  93. W.... H....

oh! I just read it was an Irish folksong!?

  94. W.... H....

Wasn't Marta Keen the creator of this song? You said it was a folksong. Did it exist before Marta Keen?

  95. W.... H....

love this and love you! wondering why you didnt mention the composer?

  96. T.... G....

Peter, just found this video this week, this has helped me through the Christchurch news, so thank you. You are a truly wonderful man, God Bless

  97. R.... C....

To be honest, this brought me to tears. Literal, tears. Most songs don't make me cry, but my friend and I had been talking and when she explained the story behind it i had to hear it for myself. I was sitting her in absolute shock the hole time. I wish i had found this sooner.
