I first heard this song on the night of May 7, 1988 while riding back from Indy to pick up my brother from college. Since when traveling, stations come in and out rather quickly, I was flipping through the dial to see what would come in and heard this song. Due to the sax throughout the song, I felt sure it was Eddie Money (since it reminded me a little of "I Wanna Go Back"). Alas, I lost the station before the song was over (I later learned that the station never ID'ed songs anyway) It wasn't until a few months later that I saw the title on the AC chart (since I doubted there was more than one song called "Carmelia"). When I first heard this song, I thought it was Eddie Money (possibly because the beginning sounds a lot like Money's 1987 hit "I Wanna Go Back" (only a little more laid back). Too bad this one wasn't promoted to Top 40 radio. If "Can't We Try" made the Top Ten, no reason this one shouldn't have done just as well.

@kappazei I like the idea and have to disagree that it must be a "chickflick". This song is just too heartrending/heartwarming and thought provoking to confine it to chickflicks. A human drama based on the loss of a loved one comes to mind when I listen to it. I think of my little Candace who was stolen from life by cancer, and of TW, a girl from the pages of my past who still holds a corner of my heart where only her and I are allowed to go, the song is perfect in many regards.

LOVE this song! Sometimes When We Touch and Can't We Try were his big hits in the U.S. but this is my favorite song of Dan Hill's by far. Missed the Hot 100 but made the top 10 on the AC chart.
