Helen Reddy - Raised On Rock Lyrics
I remember as a child I used to hear
Music that they played Lord with a feel
Some call it folk, some call it soul
People let me tell you it was rock and roll
Every day when I got home I turned on my radio
Listening to the music that my idols made
I knew every single record the DJ's played
A honky tonk a Hound Dog, a Johnny B. Goode
Chain Gang, Love Is Strange, Knock On Wood
I was raised on rock, I got rhythm in my soul
I was born to love the beat I was made for rock and roll
But the younger generation knew it would last
Time's gone by, the beat goes on
But every time I hear it Lord it takes me home
I was raised on rock, I got rhythm in my soul
Every day when I got home I turned on my radio
Mother played recordings of Beethoven's Fifth
Mozart's sonatas down the classical Liszt
My papa loved to listen to his country songs
While I was in the back room rockin' on
I was raised on rock, I got rhythm in my soul
I was born to love the beat I was made for rock and roll
I was raised on rock, I got rhythm in my soul
I was born to love the beat I was made for rock and roll
I was raised on rock, I got rhythm in my soul

Helen Reddy Raised On Rock Comments
she recorded so few of this type of song, i wish she had done more; her voice suits it surprisingly well
This is pretty good, but feels too 70's pop to be rock, no wonder it didn't become THE version, Elvis or no Elvis
i still prefer Elvis and Johnny Winters' version
Don't think Elvis was a Rolling Stones fan..That's what i think..
Good version but i still think the Kings version is better..
I, too, doubt that Elvis was a fan of the Stones. As much as I liked his music, he wasn't really in touch with 60s bands at all. Too much time on film slowed him down drastically.
Yes I agree, too much time on film slowed him down drastically.
It's amazing how The Beatles placed strict limits on how many they'd do.
Yes, Elvis was such a nice person that he done what they wanted him to do..
Elvis done some great things but he would have done a lot better if he had changed
his manager after the Aloha concert.
I believe you're right on all those points.
A duet with Elvis!
I'm digging the xylophone riffs and the end.
LOL a lot of the words on that song didn't relate to Elvis !
