Heather Nova - Island Lyrics

There are parts of me he'll never know, my wild horses and my river beds, and in my throat voices he'll never hear.
He pulls at me like a cherry tree, and I can still move but I don't speak about it.
Pretend I'm crazy, pretend I'm dead. He's to scared to hit me now - he'll bring flowers istead

I need an island, somewhere to sink a stone
I need an island, somewhere to bury you,
Somewhere to go

And the dogwoods shimmer in October sun, "oh sweet thing", he sings to me,
"You're the only one."

I need an island, somewhere to sink a stone
I need an island somewhere to bury you,
Somewhere
I need an island, somewhere to sink a stone
I need an island, somewhere to bury you,
Somewhere to go.

And I don't know why I can't tell my sister, He spat in my face again, and I don't want to die here. You know that dream when your feet won't move, you want to come but your body won't let you. He steals it from me.He steals it from me. It shines like sweat, like jewels, like something that has died to soon. He fucks with the beauty. A kiss, a kick, a kiss, a kick, a kiss kiss kick. He steals it from me. It's out of my hands again.

I need an island, somewhere to sink a stone
I need an island, somewhere to bury you,
Somewhere to go, to go.....

I'm speechless! I've been listening to music all day, checking out various stuff... This is the best thing I've come across for a long time, mesmerizing, haunting, powerful... I never knew of Heather, seems I must do some homework

Yeah, there are parts of me he'll never know
My wild horses and my river beds
And in my throat, voices he'll never hear
He pulls at me like a cherry tree
And I can still move but I don't speak about it
Pretend I'm crazy, pretend I'm dead
He's too scared to hit me now
    He'll bring flowers instead
    I need an island
    Somewhere to sink a stone
    I need an island
    Somewhere to bury you
    Somewhere to go
And the dogwoods shimmer in the October sun
"Oh sweet thing, " he sings to me,
    "You're the only one."
    I need an island
    Somewhere to sink a stone
    I need an island
    Somewhere to bury you
    Somewhere
    I need an island
    Somewhere to sink a stone
    I need an island
    Somewhere to bury you
    Somewhere to go
And I don't know why I can't tell my sister

Like something that has died too soon

I do not know why, but she always touches me with her voice ... and with her looks it is almost too much :)!

  4. C.... C....

    Jolie et plein d'émotions!!!

  5. J.... T....

my ex used to play this a lot. trying to burry me i guess, 20 years later still no luck with that. i decided it was best to go our own ways and we'll see eachother in 10 years. this was the last song she played and i allways remembered it. we lost eachother and on the exact day 10 yrs later we bumbed into eachother and tried again. didnt work. exact 10 yrs from that we bumbed into eachother again. tried not making same mistakes again. we did. guess love has mysterious ways. we still love eachother but we can't be together for some reason. so i guess i still try to stay on my island while she is on hers. some day i hope we can just be.

  6. W.... ....

The intro sounds like "The 5th of July" on Owl City's new album. You think this inspired him to do that?

  7. M.... X....

    This song just explains me

  8. n.... ....

    Hauntingly beautiful song...

  9. L.... K....

One of my favorite songs ever. Not well-known, but another reason why it's one of my favorites

    L.... K....

Such a haunting song, probably my favorite of Heather's.

  10. K.... ....

What the eye behind her? Illuminati?! So she too?! :-(

    K.... ....

    K.... ....

    are you brainwashed?

  11. S.... Z....

    this album is simply amazing

    S.... Z....

Yes it is. This album touched my soul since I first heard it in 1995.

  12. M.... K....

After having heard her voice, I know how Odysseus must have felt hearing the siren's sing.

    M.... K....

Michael Kleinbub Good call. I've been saying that for years! That intro is how I imagine the sirens sounded.

  13. R.... ....

Meg Myers (Heart Heart Head) brought me here, and they have similar voices/style. Thanks Meg, gonna jam all Heather’s songs now

  14. F.... P....

    OoooOoOooOoOOooOoOo
    OOoOoHhHhHhhHhhhhHhh

  15. C.... P....

    Música delicada som misterioso

  16. A.... I....

Had the pleasure to meet her for an interview back in 1999. Funny thing is i was neither the interviewer nor the cameraman. In all honesty i had no function at all at that meeting. But as i knew the producer i was allowed to go anyway. Shook her hands, took some pics and then listened to what she had to say. Beautiful Woman with a siren-like voice and an overwhelming meeting i still remember very well to this day.

  17. T.... D....

    it is a brilliant dreamsong

  18. H.... A....

I finally met her in The Hague a few years ago. A wonderful woman. I love her text, voice. Passion for singing. So Puur!!

  19. m.... ....

One of my all time favorites!!!!

  20. L.... M....

A very powerful song. An excellent artist. Everyone deserves respect and dignity and if you are in a relationship that is damaging you, you have the right to leave.

  21. S.... F....

I wish more people knew about her. Her voice is incredible! I've been listening to her since I was a teenager. <3

    S.... F....

She fills venues in Europe. Of the four of her shows I saw on her US tour I don't think any of the shows had more a couple hundred in the audience. While I would have liked to see her draw bigger audiences, having that intimate experience was really nice.

  22. J.... V....

I remember finding her in the 90's. Still the stuff. Love this girl

  23. H.... E....

    Heather Nova, please marry me...

  24. C.... B....

Never knew until tonight just like me heather nova was in a abusive realtionship, this song was one of her stories. Glad she escaped just like I did

    C.... B....

She was 16 yrs old when she started writing this album.. or, had already recorded it.
    I'm awesome!

    C.... B....

@***** The message wasn't meant for you. Maybe I simply prevented a Nuclear attack (by Code) via this reply, Fuckhead!
    How are you to know?
    Suck it, bitch.
    I'm still awesome!
    lol

  25. C.... ....

...love her voice, (love the duet by 'sharon den adel' also 2gether with 'anneke van giersbergen'). -- if anyone should be added with those 2, i'd go for heather...
ah well, w/e beautiful voice should stop wasting my time on commenting and rather enjoy the song.

  26. M.... M....

    Beautiful and haunting

  27. K.... ....

I could talk to women for hours and never understand a phukin word they had said. But when I listen to their music they make a whole hell of allot more sense to me.

  28. a.... ....

    I love this Song!

  29. s.... ....

Thank you so much for posting this -- the highest-res version here, far as I can see. I almost didn't want to "like" it, for fear of drawing the wrong kind of attention...

But how else could I say a proper thank-you?
