Hay, Colin - Can I Hold You? Lyrics

Can I hold you in my arms tonight?
Can I make your head and body light?
Can I tell you everything?
Can I make your sweet heart sing?
Can I discover about you?

I never feel alone when I’m with you
I never have to talk when I’m with you
It really is a lonely world
It helps if you have someone to hold
I want that someone to be you

You are never far away from my day dreams
There never are the words to say
For in our world we’re one
And with every rising sun there is you

Can I hold you in my arms tonight?
Can I make your head and body light?
Can I tell you everything?
Can I make your sweet heart sing?
Can I discover about you?

I never feel alone when I’m with you
I never have to talk when I’m with you
It really is a lonely world
It helps if you have someone to hold
I want that someone to be you

My favorite song of Colin’s. From my courtship days with my wife of 29 years. Always takes me back to that time. Lovely song from a very talented artist.

  7. A.... E....

    Gran vocalista.

  8. A.... G....

Love seeing him on his own. Even on stage, he needs no others. No singers, no crazy hippie dancers. Great on his own! ❤️🍰

  9. M.... M....

Great song by a great musician! I had the privilege of seeing Colin Hay perform about a year ago and he was amazing. What's more, he stuck around afterwards to sign autographs and take pictures with a masduve crowd of longtime fans.

  10. M.... J....

This tune sounds more traditional "Men At Work" than TWO HEARTS, the last Men At Work album. Shoulda been huuuggge.

  11. T.... R....

Shows who had all the talent in "Men at Work." What a simple lovely track. Can't believe this wasn't more popular.

    T.... R....

All of the Men were talented. Colin was clearly the best singer and songwriter though.

  12. T.... ....

It's the best Album Colin Hay made. Why you can not buy the album on iTunes?

  40. S.... S....

What the hell happened to me that I've missed out on this man's music for so long? I remember being a young lad listening to "Down Under", "Who Can It Be", and "Johnny B Good", then somewhere down the line I got distracted. Thank goodness I've found my way back. Nothing on commercial radio compares to this. This is music by a master to last a lifetime.

  41. h.... ....

is that actually chad wackerman on drums...??

If by any chance I ever remarry again ! I will definitely dance to this song. So poetic ill never give up on love.

  46. R.... H....

this song is so simply and yet so utterly captivating -- talk about a state of rapture! and colin hay has an incredible voice; he sings the song in two different octaves, something very few artists could do.

  47. C.... ....

@naavywife Isn't it one of the greatest albums you've ever heard? It gives me motivation during the day :)

  48. C.... ....

@naavywife Ebay is your best bet. I got my cd cover signed by Colin Hay at a concert. I'm holding on to that one.

Looking for Jack is by far my favorite of his solo albums. He was very experimental in some of his songs. I guess the world just wasn't ready for it.

  66. j.... ....

this has been mine and my ex partners song for about 20 yrs, I won a 12" version of it at the fair, still have it, never knew at the time who it was (Men at Work) then found out,Brilliant song, so full of great sentiment, pity the relationship wasn't as good :( Tears rolling down my face just now!!!!!

  67. h.... ....

Wow!! I never knew this song existed!! When in high school I loved Men at Work. Colin Hay is a masterful writer and composer. This song makes me feel like I'm back in the 80's. Love it !!!

  68. A.... z....

Some songs just haunt you. They lock themselves into your subconscious and then reveal their presence in pleasantly subtle ways. Standing in line,,,behind the wheel...over a drink, you find yourself smiling in a enjoyable reverie. Over the decades, this song has always done that for me. ^_^

    A.... z....

A very perceptive comment. I bought the album by chance in 1988 from a Woolworths bargain bin in my home town of Southport. It turned out to be one of the best buys I ever did make, crammed with great, inventive songs. I was just reflecting on how stunned I was to hear this song and how I used to listen to it repeatedly. It encapsulates everything about a great pop song- passionate delivery, great lyrics, and the way it builds and builds all the way through. Nearly thirty years on, it is hard sometimes to hear the music exactly as you did when listening to it originally- the experience is not quite the same. Every now and then it does feel the same though and listening to 'Can I Hold You' today takes me right back to how it sounded in 1988.

  69. R.... ....

This song tells me so much!

  70. M.... S....

    oh I LOVE this song!!!!
