Harrison, George - Not Guilty Lyrics
Not guilty
For getting in your way
While you're trying to steal the day
Not guilty
And I'm not here for the rest
I am not trying to be smart
I only want what I can get
I'm really sorry for your ageing head
But like you heard me said
Not guilty.
Not guilty
For being on your street
Getting underneath your feet
No use handing me a writ
While I'm trying to do my bit.
I don't expect to take your heart . . .
I only want what I can get
I'm really sorry that you're underfed . . .
But like you heard me said . . .
Not guilty.
Not guilty
For looking like a freak
Making friends with every Sikh
Not guilty
For leading you astray
On the road to Mandalay.
I won't upset the apple cart
I only want what I can get
I'm really sorry that you've been misled . . .
But like you heard me said . . .
Not guilty.

Harrison, George Not Guilty Comments
Muito bacana essa música
The music here so so good that it needs some more sophisticated lyrics to match. Something on the order of George's lyrics on 'Something', which is a timeless classic. The lyrics might have been good in 1969, but they really should have been reworked before release and brought up to date with more mature lyrics, which George certainly could have done. Maybe he didn't realize just how good the music is.
Why this was cut from the White Album to make room for Revolution #9 baffles me to this day. Really???
I'm surprised so many people say the anthology version of this song is better... this version is significantly more complete and polished. George's vocals are better, and it better represents his emotions while writing this song. It shows how he was frustrated with John and Paul but remained cool about it while he could but yet just a little bit of anger leaks out in this one which imo is perfect.
I agree, it seems like he got what he wanted with this version.
They did 101 takes on this song, proof that lennon and mccartney was in good terms with this. But george didn't like his vocals so he pulled it out and recorded later
me neither.....
Está más chida la versión con los Beatles
John and Paul guilties for not having it in the White Album

I think the song is great. And a little too complex and ahead of its time for the white album. Steve Winwood on harmonium pad in the bridge-chorus sequence which helped rescue this song from obscurity.
This is a good, simple version of 'Not Guilty' IMHO as opposed to Anthology #3 or the final take they accepted on the Beatles Anthology.
One My favorite songs by George Harrison
Definitely one of them that was overlooked by The White Album.
Definitely not.
Impresionante
Still prefer Anth 3 to this version.
Love this song, but judging from the White album demo, it would have had a much more raw and emotional sound if it had been included on that album.
It was a ten year old song by this time, so that's not surprising. Also, the Esher demo of this song is even rawer than the unused take.
Not guilty, George!
A timeless masterpiece. One of his best vocal performances as well.
Very nice song to.
I can't believe this didn't make the white album it's certainly good enough IMO
I wish it could have made it also. Then George would have had a 5th song on the White Album & thus more representation on the albums than he was getting. Revolver was the only time he got more than 2 songs on a single album (as opposed to a double album which the White Album was). Remaining a Beatle became too stifling for him; he was able to flourish more as a solo artist.
Nige GSX14 certainly better than Rev 9
George was apparently not happy with his vocals at the time.
I read about his trouble with his vocals on this song. But when you listen to the anthology version. The vocals was fine. I even like it more than his vocals here which is superb to be honest.
I love George Harrison. The Beatles are brilliant but this is by far the best version for George. I hear a little of Dear Friend sarrow at the end. It seems someone was influenced by his little brother. 💋
The Anthology 3 Version sounds better that this
Yeah the Anthology version is much more rock/psychedelic with the hammered harpsichord and heavy electric guitar, suits well with the late 60's vibe when it was recorded, this version is sweet but much softer and mellow. The guitar riff on this track is a genius idea.
Is mucho powerful.
Fun Fact. This song was originally meant to be included on the White Album. They did about a hundred takes of the song but it still wasn't good enough so he shelved it and included it on his own solo album 10 years later.
I 1st heard this song on Anthology 3, Disc 1. Same with Paul McCartney's "Junk" which ended up on his self-titled solo album in April 1970. Now I also have the Esher Demos disc, which includes those 2 songs plus John Lennon's "Child of Nature" which ended up as "Jealous Guy" on his album Imagine (1971).
It was probably good enough; it probably just got left off because Paul suddenly realized it was about him.
