Harris, Emmylou - For No One Lyrics

The day breaks your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
She no longer needs you
She wakes up she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one

A love that should have lasted years
You want her you need her
And yet you don't believe her when she said her love is dead
You think she needs you
She goes out you stay home
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone
She doesn't need him

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one

A love that should have lasted years
Your day breaks your mind aches
There will be time when all the things she said
Will fill your head
You won't forget her

on the Internet Intelligent sensitive music will surface to heal our wounds !

  2. S.... H....

lennon and mcartney had this lady in mind for this tune 🎼🎸

  3. P.... G....

Does anyone know if James Burton takes the solo on this? It sounds like a tele neck pickup, so must be, but wanted to see if anyone knows for sure. Whoever plays it, it is one of the most emotive and depressingly beautiful solos I've ever heard.

    P.... G....

Too lazy to dig out my original vinyl (and don't think that gives individual song credits, anyways), but I'm pretty sure the guitar solo is played by Amos Garrett.

    Great cover from Paul McCartney

Thanks 'catman' for all the Emmy Lou Harris posts. Had most of her albums but have given them away so someone else mcould enjoy her 'magically smooth' voice and find out that there are many great female vocalists in country music. Joe Engman

  8. L.... S....

Emmylou gets more and more beautiful the older she gets.

    Exquisite!

  14. J.... H....

strip all the charm and charisma of a song and water it down for the masses, this version makes me puke.

  15. L.... M....

Only someone like Emmylou could master a McCartney/Lennon song...such feeling

  16. G.... W....

Such a sad, gorgeous song.  I have loved it for years, but lost the tape long ago.  downloaded it tonight.

  17. E.... W....

    Legend covers a legend!

  18. K.... S....

    The Queen.

    K.... S....

I love Emmylou too, but in my opinion June Carter is the queen.

  19. K.... s....

    Haunting lyrics beautifully sung.

  20. T.... ....

Emmylou totally owns any cover that she does. Beautiful arrangement

  21. Y.... S....

  22. B.... W....

She OWNS it.  Something rare in a Beatles cover.

    B.... W....

    jaja ok good joke

  23. J.... C....

She can't do any wrong as far as I'm concerned , beautiful guitar playing to.

    J.... C....

Think Amos Garret did the solo

    J.... C....

That's Amos Garrett on electric guitar.

  24. T.... R....

    Best Beatles cover ever done.

    T.... R....

She also does Here There and Everywhere..gr8 Beatles cover too.

  25. T.... A....

Best cover ever I´ve heard.. Beautiful voice :)

  26. J.... R....

    Definitive version

  27. H.... ....

She does the best cover on Beatles songs. She makes a good song better. It also shows what great song writers John and Paul are. And her cover of Here, There, and Everywhere is superb. I can listen to her sing for hours. It doesn't hurt that she's absolutely beautiful.

    H.... ....

@H1delta I completely agree with your comments about Here, There, and Everywhere. I always said that the original is always best but in this case, I prefer Emmy Lou's version. It's so totally haunting with the strings, the subtle guitar notes and of course, that harmonica. Peace to you, H1delta.

    H.... ....

Without a doubt.... and I agree., she’s a striking looking woman.

  28. s.... ....

Not a big Beatles fan, but she renders this song transcendent.

  29. c.... ....

    You said it all!

  30. D.... V....

A beautiful rendition of a beautiful song by a beautiful woman from an exquisite album.

    D.... V....

David Viar Beautiful words and every word you stated absolutely rings so true!!!

  31. J.... C....

True TheLuigisan. "Pieces of the Sky" is probably fairly called the first album of her career, since she pretty much disowned "Gliding Bird", but "Gliding Bird" is definitely the first album she recorded.

  32. R.... T....

A prolific singer songwriter with an angelic voice and the ability to appease everyone. You just can't help liking her. I became a fan in 1975 and own each and everyone of her albums. She does even the Beatles right. Her version of For No One and Here, There, and Everywhere are very high on my playlist.

  33. r.... ....

this is like the finest wine in the finest crystal.
