Hank Williams - Roly Poly Lyrics
Hey Roly Poly eatin' corn and taters hungry every minute of the day
Roly Poly knowin' all the biscuits long as he can chew it it's okay
He can eat an apple pie and never even bat an eye
He likes everything from a soup to hay
Roly Poly daddy's little fatty and he's gonna be a man someday
Roly Poly eats a hard day dinner it takes lots of strenght to run and play
Bowls up weeds and does the chores run both ways to Holday's stores
He wears up that apetite that way
Roly Poly daddy's little fatty but he's gonna be a man someday

Hank Williams Roly Poly Comments
Got a youngun in the family we call chunky.
He just got a new name.
My mom and dad used to sing when my brother was born. I do miss them all
My dad always sang this to me when I was a kid. He passed away yesterday at 62. I'll always remember this song.
I raised one of these young 'eating' machines,,he grew up big and strong,,I ended up hungry, and having to file bankruptcy papers,,,,,,,,ha
I sat on Hanks Mom’s church bench.
The one he sang hymns on as a 7 year old kid.
Long live Hank!!!
I gust found this song and I love it
My Dad used to always sing this. He loved Hank Williams music.
I've no doubt had he lived long enough ,he would have been a killer rockabilly...
My dad use to sing this to me as he bounced me on his knee as a toddler. I would laugh and remembered the scratching of his mustache as he told me to go play. He passed away 3 months ago.
Iv heard the playboys hank and quabe sisters do this song and all 3 are top notch
Can anyone tell me if Hank is singing about a little boy or a dog.
The best dog song ever... The anyway
Great cover by Asleep At the Wheel also
The Father of the rock n roll beat!!
Boy that guitar sounded like Rock and Roll to me. I like Hank and Bob Wills version.
❤️❤️❤️
My Grandpa Butch used to sing this sometimes.
Given all the great songs Hank wrote and sung, imagine what he could have wrote and sung had he not passed when he did!!
No kidding between him, Buddy Holly and Ronnie Van Zandt of Lynyrd Skynyrd three of the finest songwriters of their generations.
First heard this song while waiting for the Cars ride at Disneyland in 2017. Not sure if it was Hank or Bob Wills version, but it is a fun song.

I loved this song. Brought a smile to my face.
Can you imagine if a major artist came out with a song like this nowadays, that would be the end of their career. They won't have nobody fat-shaming their little bastards.
thanks, that made me laugh
hank was doing rock n roll before rocknroll.you go hank
Exactly that guitar sounded just like 50's Rock and Roll
Matt Beeman that’s because it is 50s. It’s an overdub.
I love Hank Williams and his version of this song with Hank Garland on guitar BUT you all need to hear Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys 1945 1st original version of this song - it's HOT & SWINGS!
Happy onions jionin the rest,, xxxxof;
one of the greatest songs ever. i often post it on amy schumer and lena dunham's twitter pages.
J.L. Gazelle good for you friend
he wrote all his own music
+Randy Goodman Not all of it but alot
Bob wills version is better but Fred Rose originally wrote this song!!!
Randy Goodman
Not quite
One night Hank and Fred went to a Mexican bar and drank a lot of beer and ate a lot of chilli and they had to stop on the way home, and run into the woods beside the road to relieve themselves. As they were squatted in the forest Hank yelled over "Hey Fred, we're setting the woods on fire tonight!"
Hank would go to Fred's house and say, "I got drunk and my wife locked me out, I'm in the dog house"' and Fred would say "Come on in, maybe we can write a song about it."
Richard Clipperton I'm. sure men like to hummm
or he'll just tell the dog to "move it on over"
Well I love it. Never knew ole Hank did this one. Great song too. Thank you. Ken in UK.
Hank was the greatest country singer of all time. Why would he waste his time singing silly stuff like this? Why would he waste his great voice on this? I bet he did not write this nonsense tune..
+Michael Craig This is a good song. Hank thought so. His voice is what makes this song. Just like most artists, he didn't write all of his songs. Fred Rose wrote this, along with some other Hank songs. Hank helped write some, some he wrote himself. You can't expect every song to be number ones.
+F. R. Thomas No, it is not the fact that it was a hit or not. That means nothing..it is just not a great song, not up to his standards at all. I figured Fred Rose wrote it...every song Fred touched, was pure cornball garbage, and was not nearly as good as the ones that Hank wrote by himself..Fred was good as a manager/producer, but he sucked as a songwriter.. Hank should have only recorded the ones he wrote himself. I can tell when Fred sticks his sorry thumb into a songwriting venture.. just like I dont let anyone write with me.. no way.
+Michael Craig ..Ah Haa . . .try = Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys doing "Roly Poly"
a 1946 Columbia Records release all about "daddy's little fatty." "Roly Poly,
eatin' corn n' taters, hungry every minute of the day." A real Western
Swing classic. I can't think of another song that hits on a similar
subject . . .
Yeah like Deep Water which was also a Bob Wills hit sucked too huh. This is good stuff
Michael Craig
What's wrong with a novelty song
I haven't a clue how my brother found this song, but now I am known to the family as "Roly Poly, daddy's little fatty." Great. Fan-freakin'-tastic.
I bet you're gonna be a man someday.
LumpyKoalaBear That's fan-freakin'-tastic.
You'll probably be a man someday
A song about jr.
Brother needs a swift kick in the sack.
Sorry, but here, Bob Wills is still the king.
Love this song!
Always wondered where my dad got that nickname for me as kid. Now I know.
Hank Williams was and still is the very best. The music business will never ever have another Hank Williams...
jayne bratt uh....theres 2. Lol
jayne bratt well literally yes but his grandson hank3 is a damn near copy of senior.
Hank 3 as close to hank 1 we will get. But i request you check into Texas singer and songwriters as well as reddirt muic artist. Some really good stuff and it aint nashvegas shit either. Steal and fiddle all day long
It’s a shame he had to die drinking.

"This is rock & roll." The rock and roll drummer was overdubbed years after Hank's death.
@Ron Reagan Rock and roll was a fad on the black charts as of 1949; it consisted of performing black jump blues as if it were black gospel as a joke. Hank didn't help invent that. Examples of rock and roll from 1949 are "Rock The Joint" by Chris Powell and "Rock That Boogie" by Jimmy P. Smith. The country musicians who invented rockabilly after 1949 (by combining that black rock and roll sound with country) were, of course, familiar with Hank.
Thanks for pointing that out. Heard that guitar solo and thought; WTF?
