Hank Williams Jr. - Eleven Roses Lyrics

I guess you noticed there is only eleven roses
I chose them from our garden where they grew
Take the roses and look into the mirror
And the twelth rose will be looking back at you

There's just something about a spray of roses
To a woman they say more than man can say
After what I've done you may not keep the roses
But I just thought I would sent them anyway

There's just something about a spray of roses
To a woman they say more than man can say
After what I've done you may not keep the roses
But I just thought I would sent them anyway

    Sorry if this makes anyone upset I hop it doesn’t my Uncle Robert Bronman died and was berried play this song this one is special to me now because there’s a story that he told me when I was younger I was around 7or8 now I’m 17 when he said he was at a bar when he met ol’Hank him self and over a beer he sold this song 11 roses to hank at this bar with a contract written on a napkin and till this day he swears this really happened but even if it’s just a myth or if you people think this that that’s crazy no one could do that well then you don’t know my uncle he did a lot in his life some good a lot bad lol but he said he did right with this song now in some way I believe him because he’d told me he also met Willie Nelson which is true my uncles cousin he said used to keep his house clean and my uncle met him by that and which my dad verified he even said he smoked with him he told me a lot of stories but these were always my favorite

    This was Hanks 2nd #1. He hit #1 the first time in 1970 with the theme song to Kelly's Heroes, "All for the Love of Sunshine". He was 21 then and one of three, male country artist who has hit number one at the tender age of twenty one (Johnny Rodriquez and Hunter Hayes with Tracy Lawrence just barely missing the cut) . But really, HWJR has so far in history been the most successful young, male artist in the country genre, and it's not even really close. He released his first single in 1964 with his father's song, "Long Gone Lonesome Blues". It made it to number 5. He was 14 when it topped out. Then he had many other top 5s in the late 60s including, "I'd Rather Be Gone" and "It's All Over but the Crying" and "Canjin Baby". This amazing song that Hank never liked was released in 1972 on an album with the same name, and in my opinion, this is when his voice hit its absolute peak. This song may have been too painful for him as around that time he divorced his first wife from which they had Hank III, aka Sheldon. His voice stayed really strong up until around 1988, but he didn't always try his best to produce the best possible vocal product once he got the rowdy image, and so it was often dismissed due to some of the not-so-serious vocals that he put out from the early 80s on. Some vocally well-done ablums are there even after his fall that include from the late 70s and the beginning of the 1980s, "Whiskey Bent" and "Old Habits".There are many exceptions though to poorer vocals beyond the late 70s of what he could do with his voice when he really tried. As late as his 2009, there was an album called "127 Rose Avenue" that never had a chance due to Mike Curb and what he did to some artists during that time, but there were some really well sung songs on it. He was around 60 at that time. "Mighty Oak Trees" is one of those songs. He didn't write it but sung it well.

  67. S.... H....

    "Eleven Roses" is the title of a song written by Lamar Morris and Darrell McCallm and recorded by American country music artist Hank Williams Jr.. It was released in March 1972 as the only single and title track from the album of the same name. The song became Williams' first number one on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart in July 1972, spending two weeks atop the chart. The song spent 14 weeks on the Hot Country Singles chart's top 40.[1] @ Hunter Coon, just to clarify

    S.... H....

    Actually... what few people realize is that about 22 years before this, Bobby Mansfield, Francis Concepcion, George Magnezid, and James Archer turned Jack Wachs' poem called "Eleven Roses" into a song. So technically the Wrens should get the credit for "Eleven Roses". While this song is obviously different in style and lyrics, it has the same message. You should give the Wrens a try though. Bobby Mansfield sure had one SWEET voice.

  68. B.... ....

    Somehow, I think of driving in a storm – darkened skies at mid-afternoon, lightning flashing – when I hear this song. Don't ask why. As for the song, a great ballad you rarely hear Hank perform in concert today ... although I'd bet he still probably does during his ballad set. Great contrast to the "Rowdy"/"Country Boy" and political songs.

  69. H.... C....

    That is a negative my friend... A guy from my home town of Opp Alabama Wrote it... His name is Lamar Morris... Go look him up.. just to clear that up with you and everyone else @85oldschool

  81. K.... ....

    @hanktified99 - I love your comment, because I have also used the 11 roses thing on every girl I ever dated. They thought that was just the sweetest thing anybody had ever done for them, in fact that is how I "sealed the deal" with my wife of 15 years now. I had 11 roses delivered to her house and borrowed hanks line to butter her all up the night I proposed to her. YEARS AND YEARS later they played the song on XM radio when we were on a trip, and like you I was BUSTED!!!

    K.... ....

    smart guy.

  82. m.... b....

    Another #1 hit for Hank Williams, Jr. on the Country & Western charts. This was the 232nd #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks charts.

  84. B.... ....

    About 15 or 20 yrs. ago, it was either Mothers Day, or my Moms birthday...and I told my Dad to get 11 roses and put this on the card. Oh yeah, Mom was thrilled.

  85. N.... ....

    mmmm that's a totally different story to what i heard. i believe that Darrall was on the road and hadn't seen his mum for some time and wrote it for her, i guess you never really know.

    My Daddy bought me an album from readers digest when I was a kid (in the 80's) This song was on it. I wasnt familiar with country music at that time but after that, I learned to LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC. Thanks Daddy. RIP!

    from my first love....this was our song..thank for for posting this..brings back some great memories

  90. S.... W....

    @7jharr9
    My brother, Joel Lee Grantham, wrote this song and sent it to his best friend of 12 yrs. Lamar Morris who had moved to Nashville. Lamar was Joel's best friend. They grew up together in Andalusia, Alabama. Joel and Lamar played guitar together at our house when I was 5-6 yrs, old. So, In my brother's honor, I just want everyone to know who the REAL original writer was. Darrell and Lamar did the editing and got al the credits and royalties,

  91. J.... M....

    @hanktified99
