Hall & Oates - Watcha See Is Watcha Get Lyrics

Some people are made of plastic
You know some people are made of wood
Some people have hearts of stone
Some people are up to no good
Aaaaah, but baby, I'm for real
I'm as real as real can get
If what you're looking for
Is real loving
Then what you see
Is what you get

Ha, whatcha see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get (is whatcha get)
Whatcha see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get (is whatcha get)
I said, what you see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get, now baby (is whatcha get)
And the real thing is the best thing yet
(Is the best thing yet)

You know some people
Are made of lies
To bring you down
And shame your name
But baby, I have good intentions
(Good intentions)
'Cause breaking hearts just ain't my game
All I want to do is love you
And sugar I won't pin you with regret
If what you're looking for
Is real lovin' (real lovin')
Then what you see
Is what you get

I say again

Whatcha see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get (is whatcha get)
Look at me
Whatcha see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get (is whatcha get)
I mean, what you see (whatcha see)
Is whatcha get, now baby (is whatcha get)
And the real thing is the best thing yet
(Is the best thing yet)

Hey Detroit, it was great meeting you at Daryls House Club!

Great version. Actually I'm directly responsible for them doing this and John singing it. T Bone Wolk was a friend and neighbor of mine and I was doing some work for him at his house in VT. when they were assembling tracks for this record. I had overheard the original version of this playing on a radio at the Holyoke Flea Market and I thought to myself, hey this would be great song for John Oates, so later I played it for T Bone saying "John Oates should sing this". He agreed and said he had forgotten about this song. A few months later he gave me a CD of it.

I love the Origiinal song . but this Hall and Oaths version is really cool.

Nothing like a good smooth voice of John Oates...♥

Yes, John does a good job on this but the Dramatics did it first way before Hall and Oates did it and, in all fairness to H and O, I like the original better.

I am a big fan of Hall and Oates and even though this is a good rendition of this song, I still like the original by the Dramatics better than this. It is one of those times when a cover, for whatever reason, doesn't move me.

These guys are the best rock and soul Philly musicians. I sure wish they'd play up here in Toronto, Canada. We'd flock to see those type of pro musicians - Canadians like to swing their hips too!

@Blundering08 The tune was performed by the Dramatics in 1972, and it was composed by Tony Hestor, and it was originally titles Watcha See Is Watcha Get.
It's a great tune from the 70's. I'm not sure if it was written for the Phillie Sound, or the Motown Sound.
Glad to see Daryll Hall and John Oats did their style of it - these guys are so good.

James Trusler first of all whatcha see is whatcha get came out in the summer of 1971 not 72. I was 17 when it came out. John oates is a great singer but he is nowhere near William Wee Gee Howard the original lead singer of the dramatics.

NO ONE DOES IT BETTER THAN JOHN OATES.
