Hall & Oates - Love In A Dangerous Time Lyrics

In the heart of our country
There's a killer without a gun
We're afraid to be no longer free
To trust a loving one
So I say a prayer for you

In the heart of the darkness
There's a killer without a name
Nowhere to hide
No mountain side...
The city's all the same
So please say a prayer for me

Oh listen people...

Out of the dark silence
How in the world will we survive
Love in a dangerous time

In the heart of our children
Where the simple things are true
There's so much to learn
When the world has turned
Turning on you
Open eyes show us what to do

Fight our way through open doors
Blind to what we see before us
Fools who make the rules
Commit the crimes...let's lay it on the line

Out of the dark silence
How in the world will we survive
Love in a dangerous time

In the heart of the darkness
In the heart of the country
In the heart of our lovers
In the heart of the children

Listen people...
We can play it cool or play it wise
When life is on the line

This is an amazing song that they should play in concert

This is a tradition on the last songs of a H&O album that started with 1988's Ooh Yeah and the last song being ,"keep On Pushin' Love" which John wrote and sang on. The tradition continued with Daryl singing "Heavy Rain" from 1990's Change Of Season" LP. These songs have special meaning to them which sends a certain message (Actually Daryl started this with his 1986 LP Three Hearts In The Happy Ending Machine with What's Gonna Happen To Us)like the end of a long relationship or keeping peace and love or volatile relationships like in John's "War Of Words" from Marigold Sky in 1997.

This song is also featured on John Oates's solo album, Phunk Shui.

One doesn't normally think of H&O as writers of "social message" songs.  However, this one definitely fits the bill.  And....as much as I like Daryl Hall (and he is one of the best male singers alive today IMHO), it is really nice to hear a song where John Oates is WAY up front and Hall is relegated to the background.  Excellent song!!!
