Hall & Oates - I Can Dream About You Lyrics

No more trying
To hold someone close to my life
It's time for finding
Some way to get through my sleepless nights

I can dream about you
If I can't ho Id you tonight I can dream about you
Maybe that will make it all right
All right

Moving sidewalks
Uneven under my feet
My true feelings
Down deep below
'Cause the streets see me lonely for you
Just for you

I can dream about you
In my dreams we're still happy
And you're still part of me
I can dream about you
And when you're in my mind's eye
You're a sweet memory, memory

Baby, I'm dreaming
(I can dream about you)
Dreaming, oh
I can dream about you
Oh, maybe that will make it all right
All right, all right

I can dream about you

Hall & Oates I Can Dream About You Comments
  1. M.... V....

This sounds much better with Dan Hartman.

  2. X.... H....

It'd be interesting to know how their version would've sounded in 1984 if they'd sang it instead of Dan Hartman then. His style would've fit on the Big Bam Boom album

  3. B.... ....

GOOD THING Hall & Oates turned down this song back in 1984. DAN HARTMAN did a MUCH MUCH BETTER JOB with the song he wrote. Hall & Oates is okay but it's very WEAK compared to DAN HARTMAN's version.

Love Hall and Oates karaoke 🎤 .

  5. D.... L....

I see y Hartman hit up H&O for the song, it fits their group. Always liked it. Good song.

I like Hall and Oates, but Dan Hartman's version, his original version, is far superior to this. If only you could have come out Dan. Xxxxx

  8. T.... B....

Kinda glad they didn't accept this song. I like this version but this is how it would have prob been released and Hartman's version is just so much punchier.

    T.... B....

This version wouldn't even get past the record company in 1984. There would be no acoustic guitar. The arrangement would probably be similar to "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid."

  9. M.... G....

Hartman did a kickass job with this. As much as I dig H&O this version is just too bland.

    M.... G....

    ikr...dont like it all.

    M.... G....

They're trying a bit too hard here to be 'soulful' and avoid a copycat cover of Hartman's record. I think that arrangement is what H&O would have done if they'd recorded the tune first. It's definitely more marketable.

    M.... G....

Agree totally. But in fairness to Daryl Hall, I think he was 58 when he sang this. Hartman hit those spectacular high notes in his early 30s.

    M.... G....

Well this was in 2005 and they were doing a mellower/soulful version. If they did it in 1984 I'm sure it would've sounded much more like Hartman's pop/rock upbeat version

  10. y.... ....

Supposedly Dan Hartman wrote this for H&O but they refused it and he recorded it himself before it became part of "Streets of Fire."

    Interesting

    y.... ....

+ydoomenaud  things in life really do happen for a reason .. Dan was born to play his own hit.. his best song too

    y.... ....

If you watch the movie, Streets of Fire, the song is sung by studio singer Winston Ford. But the soundtrack of the movie features Hartman singing the song.

    y.... ....

ydoomenaud: I understand that they didn't so much refuse it, but had just finished an album so it would have been quite a while before they could do something with it. Also, while Dan Hartman wrote it with Hall & Oates in mind, when they couldn't do anything with it, Daryl Hall told him he (Dan) could do a great job with it. And the rest is history!
