Green Day - Words I Might Have Ate Lyrics
Now it seems I can't keep my mind of you
My brain drifts back to better days we've been through
Like sitting on blacktop of the school grounds
The love I bitched about I finally found
So there's nothing I can do but take the pain
Why?
Now I dwell on what you remind me of
A sweet young girl who sacrificed her love
As for me... I am blind without a cause
And now I realized what I have lost
It was something real that I could have had
Now I play the fool whose stable soul's gone bad
Tell me the words I might have said
That's pumping pressure deep inside my head
Was it bad enough to be too late?
Just tell me the words I might have ate
But now it's gone and I take the blame
So there's nothing I can do but take the pain
Why?

Words I Might Have At From Album 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (B - Sides) And Kerplunk https://youtu.be/D0STGFk7kEw
This is very Beatles-y, in a good way. A pop ditty from Green Day
Now it seems I can't keep my mind off of you
My brain drifts back to better days we've been through
dannica t. someday you'll read message ,
The Who inspired.
Mhm, early green day took a fair amount of influence from them. They have a cover of talkin' bout my generation on this album!
Thank you so much for making this lyric description video
If this song was slower it could be straight from warning
Not every acoustic rock song has to be compared to every other acoustic rock song
This a good song..
Kerplunk per me e e' sara sempre valida e spero che anche fra 50 anni troverò persone a ascoltare l album
acoustic punk.
so acoustic punk sounds like the beatles?
Idk why this song reminds me of a beetles song.
Acoustic rock. Multiple guitars going at once. Quiet and subtle as opposed to really loud, but still headbangable
To anyone that complains about Green Day putting out poppish sensitive songs after mainstream, they weren't that aggressive before mainstream.
+Alana D I disagree. The only "political" songs I can think of before Warning are Road To Acceptance and Stuck With Me.
+AANickFan Prosthetic Head.
I personally don't mind whether they speak about 'politics' or anything else, they're still good as hell. Such a great songwriter as Billie Joe was damn right to explore different directions during all these years. He had proved to excel at underground punk composition, and didn't shift away from his desire to go beyond. Without even developing on his excelling at it too, this was freedom of mind and action, which he has always claimed and was quite lately one thing that kept him, and the band, alive.
I can hardly find interest to uninformed assessments so here is an overview of what's to be said :
1° Their older songs like this one (which I came here looking for, and it's not because I don't like it) are not the ones that are underrated. I only recall people speaking good about these songs (you, I or any other commentator here isn't the exception to that). The Green Day songs that are actually underrated are the "poppish sensitive" ones you've mentioned, and it's only because I've seen this written several times that I know what you're talking about.
2° I'm older that the band when this song was written and sang, and I fully understand that back then they raised politic or social issues in a less insistent and fierce way than they do it now. (By the way, I love the way they've been doing it for several years now, and especially how they do it now).
3° Green Day have always alternated interior, personal stuff with outward-looking songs, which is particularly flagrant since Warning in 2000, which was the breeding ground to American Idiot, 4 years earlier.
4° Strange how their less "political" albums since AI, namely the Trilogy, are the most negated ones... Warning started to be truly appreciated something like 10 years after it came out... Perhaps in half a decade, Uno! Dos! Tre! will be listened as the outstanding three-piece of creativity it is, all the more so that it was probably Billie's most volatile period.
When one is in prey to his inner demons, possibly going to the point of no return (which was Billie Joe's case, as you may now the way I do), either he falls into complete self-withdrawal and passivity, or on the contrary he gives everything he has, which is much unsafer, but what he gets if he manages to pick himself up after falling makes him a luminous person he wouldn't have become otherwise. This is a potentially universal process, I can speak of it from years-long experience I've had and shared, but Billie is a prime and rare example of what "making it through" (any kind of addiction) and "becoming who you are" (to use his words) really means.
In conclusion, I personally am very positively overwhelmed when I look on Green Day's musical journey, from where they started to what they bring today, to me and loads of people. The fact there are some songs I'm addicted to and some other I simply like to hear, sometimes for the only reason it's un-misleadingly Billie singing, is not going to make me split on anything they've written, chosen, done or said, when I don't like it or feel the same.
You've just typed my mind out.
This is a different kind of sensitive, though. This is good sensitive.
The most underrated Green Day song ever
It's eated.
This is the most criminally underrated song from the most criminally underrated album ever.
Kerplunk is an awesome album.
All the songs of Kerplunk are good.
It always makes me wonder what they could've been like if they never made dookie and kept going in the kerplunk direction
@Sagacious Assessor many of us wouldn't be here that's for sure
NameNick 905 YES, this song along with one for the Razorbacks and 2000 light years away are my favorites. Kerplunk is by far their best album and one of the most underrated
Sounds like a 1965 era Beatles song, I could totally hear this on an album like Help! Or Rubber Soul.
yeah I was thinking the same thing too! I thought I was the only one for a second.
i pour milk before cerial
+Elena Liutkute Welp, nobody is perfect.
Elena Liutkute
C
savage...
Punk!!!!
i wish they would remake this album. even though i love the sound of the album already
Almost sounds inspired by The Beatles... great song!
usually i get tired of a song the 2nd time around but this never grows old
You must've listened to a lot of songs, then.
That's a nice profile picture you got there, I like QotSA
Legend has it that Stratocaster Bill has been listening to this song for the past 4 years.
odd song, still ok. sounds a bit unlike green day.
I wouldn't say that. It's just the acoustic.
Fuck! This song is so damn awesome!! Kerplunk is my favorite Green Day album, and actually this is probably my favorite green day song. They can pull off this sound like no one else, almost a softer side of punk wothout being lame and whiney.
Well said !
it reminds me of the theme song of Friends
It's okay, let his penis be sad.
did you read the lyrics? not really a song to sing to your GF.
The boy i liked also likes Green Day....When he found out i liked him someone asked him "Would you go out with her?" He said "No, shes too immature"...And im thinking hmm immature.... He obviously doesnt know Green Day too well :)
I see what you did there :P
Words? I might have eight, I'm not sure.
oh my fucking god, this song is so epic.
man this song is so good.
Fucking love this song
but now they are even bigger
thank you captain obvious
Billie's doing main vocals and Mike is backing
That is literally every single green day song with the exceptions of all by myself, dominated love slave, and homecoming
if greenday had been keep the same punkrock style they would have be as big as ramones or sex pistols
this entire cd was the soundtrack to my 13 year old life, alone in the bay area.
the two voices are billie.
Im going to play this for a girl who im in love for her birthday
Did you ever do that?
I've been planning to sing this to my ex who I still love
it might be both billie just overlapped. a lot of bands do that on album versions of songs
Is Mike Dirnt doing main vocals cause i can hear billie in the back singing high
Off course... because blink's new album sounds too much like angels and airwaves if you ask me...
why the fuck you put these "#"? this is not twitter
It's as if the lyrics were plucked from my very heart. Fuck.
Youtubers are pricks. People argue so much on here because they can let out things that apparently they're too fucking weak to say to ACTUAL faces in ACTUAL reality.
Oh my, it's a good thing Green Day is not writing an English text book, but, instead are writing a punk rock song. Do you just look for songs with bad grammar? It is a song you douche, I know what the past fucking participle for eat is jackass, but I bet you can't play this song like they can.
Green Day has recorded so many amazing songs, and there's no way that Nimrod wasn't in the top 5 rock records of the 1990's.
But, this song? This song right here? Holy fuck. It's like Billie ripped the words out of my fucking soul and wrote this song.
(': #TrueGreenDayFan Forever <3
@HillChris1234 ate. words i might have ate.
@Fonzier I was twelve. :( Lol
@Wildone995 Yeah because that's relevant?
I was 2 years old when this came out haha
Jesus Christ, this song 100% describes how I feel right now.
its fun to sing the 5th note during the "why" part
first acoustic song too. I love this one. The words are meaningful too. It's like, who hasn't fucked up a relationship or a "good thing".? That is whats its about. Classic shit. Green Day rocks!
I keep thinking this is a sped up version.
Then I remember that I'm listening to Green Day lol
Fuck this is about me...
@mirosango14 Currect grammer doesn't matter so much in songs >_>
"My generation is zero, I never made it as a working class hero" that I should be I've but nobody cares XD
@VFloresTalent Lol if the love of his life would know how desperate and pathetic he is, there's no way she'll kiss him..
imagine this with electric guitars :D
@tacos50000 crap i hope i dont "dye"
2 people don't realise they ate the word like

You just ruined this song for me
I like this because this is what the real Green Day was. This is like the only album I really do listen to.
Cool song
Coldplay
@VFloresTalent You're missing the most mainstream ones? That's surprising. I still love them, but I just assumed those would be the first ones you'd pick up.
when i was 11 my parents got me Kerplunk and Dookie for Chirstmas. I screamed fangirl bloody murder.
@Wildone995 Me too lol
@maman2011100 hmmm... no they didnt they just grew up
I love my math teacher... he let me borrow HIS Kerplunk album!
its "now it seems i cant keep my mind off off you." not above you.
FINALLY!! somone has the right lyrics. its bitched, everyone else has withced... that dosent make sense!!
Who can't relate to this song?
@maman2011100 i know they did but not alot like others did
@Shanejizm hmmm..... yes they did.... 0.o
@TheDannydanon Classic.
love GD forever no matter what
unless they start rapping then I'm gonna have to shoot Billie Joe but there's no chance of that happening
the Riff reminds me of "Having a blast", (w/clean sound) at the beginning...
this song really reminds me of 'peacemaker' from 21CBD :) in a good sense that they havnt changed their sound with all the fame like most bands do
Ah yeah, the kinda scrapey guitar tone as well as the fast acoustic riffs makes it really similar
Amazing song!
@ChristieRoade On their first EP, 1000 Hours, all the songs were made for the same girl (don't know her name).
i think this song mightve been in an advertisement. i dont know what for though...
Kinda doubt it
@SashaGezila The 90's were the best years for everyone
@ChicNugget12 then your not a true green day fan
@ChicNugget12 me too :)
@ChristieRoade He had a girlfriend named Jennifer which he deticated "Paper Lanterns" to. So no, Adrieene was not, Billie actually met Adrienne in Minneapolis (i believe) during their first independant tour across America.
@Guercinator i learned about green day in 2004/05 yes because of american idiot, but now i find myself listening to this song and all their other songs before that album, does that make me less of a fan?
the reason all these kerplunk songs have no dislikes is because only the true fans coome here to listen to amazing songs only we know about. Green Day Forever
@ChicNugget12 but this song is so awesome. Are you a fan of this kind of stuff, or the stuff from 2004-present?
@FallOfMind 106 likes now :D
sounds like an apology letter to a girl and he's asking a question in a P.S
uuuuuuwhyyy?
how do you know when music is awesome? 94 likes and 0 dislikes.
@tacomanp77 I was going to post the same comment word for word ! Ha ha Yah no doubt ! sounds like a Paul and Ringo oldey. Great tune!
Awesome as F**K !!! :)
