oh shit billy we got problems there's this band the kinks that came out with this exact same song. its what they call a "cover song"... the only thing is it came out over 30 years ago. is that good or bad?

I grew up with the Kinks doing this. Green Day does a beautiful job with this.

There is a general rule of thumb, that if you do a cover you have to do it as good or better than the original band

@ Nancy...this is the kind of song that shouldn't really be tampered with, changed or fucked up as it were. It sounds almost identical to the Kinks so I guess you could call it karaoke but I'm glad Green Day didn't add any weird shit to it and kept it true.

I don't care what anyone says. The Kinks are/were an incredible band. This is a FANTASTIC cover. It shows a reverence for the original material that is RARE in this current landscape. Great stuff.

they do decent covers, they are better when they play them live. BUT!! working class hero was phenominal. i personally think they outdid john lennon himself with that one.

This is EPIC!!!

My only complaint is that they stayed TOO true to the original. They didn't cover it, they replicated it. Even down to the drum fills.
The original is great, sure - and this is solid enough...but cmon, I'd like to hear at least some attempt at a more creative reinterpretation (admittedly those can often be horribly bad ideas).

Hi I found this video by mistake actually looking for the Kinks version.I have to say this isone of the best cover version of any songs I have heard to date.I also love Nirvanas version of man who sold the world..Thos are My person top 2 cover versions of any song ..Also check out Bryan Ferrys Version of the IN Crowd

Excellent cover. I loved the original when it came out , but this is a great take. I like the sense of latent power that amps up the sexual tension. The Kinks version does have more sway to it, but that's okay--I'll listen to both bands and enjoy them for their unique qualities =)

Redundant, Worry Rock, and all that. These are your love songs. Not all this whiny crap in the mainstream today. Green Day hardly makes any songs directed to love but when they do, they really show that Beatles, the Who, and Kinks influence.
