Green Day - No Pride Lyrics

This one of the best Green Day riffs in my opinion

Most people believe that this song is about a pathetic person with no self-esteem. But a closer look at the lyrics shows that this is very unlikely to be true.


This song is full of anger, maybe was written as a result of some disappointing experience. It's quite political and sarcastic to a certain extent. The main message in the song is that pride, dignity, values, cultural or religious beliefs all lead to conflicts, wars and destruction, while most of those religions and cultures have already lost their ideological content and are now based on out-dated traditions and hypocrisy, and are obviously not worth dying for.


So, the narrator says that only by giving up your pride and dignity can you survive in this world where people kill each other in the name of their worthless beliefs. He says he's safe because he has no pride, he's willing to beg for something as worthless as the "lost and founds of second-hand regrets" and advises everyone else to follow his example and swallow their pride before it gets them killed.

First Green Day song I ever heard. My friend 'borrowed' her brothers tape and we listened to Insomniac, an earphone a piece during a sponsored walk. Didn't want to wait to rewind it so we started listening at the point her brother had turned it off. Ah memories.

This was the first green day album I've ever sat down and listened to in one sitting, and I was listening to it on vinyl (it was my uncle's) and I guess I wasn't listening or it was broken because I missed this song. Never heard it until now. Great song

This song isn't political... It's talking about the same thing 86 does, the punk scene rejecting Green Day after "selling out." Yes, they were political before American Idiot, but it didn't start with Insomniac.

Green Day started to be political with Warning not with Insomniac. This song is about the punk scene rejecting Green Day when the Dookie came out.

Yeah, nimrod and insomniac are such great albums for drawing, studying etc. I used to listen to these two a lot when I was studying music.
