Green Day - Coming Clean Lyrics
Seventeen and strung out on confusion
Trapped inside a roll of disillusion
I found out what it takes to be a man
Well, mom and dad will never understand
Skeletons come to life in my closet
I found out what it takes to be a man
Well, mom and dad will never understand
What's happening to me
Seventeen and coming clean for the first time
I finally figured out myself for the first time
I found out what it takes to be a man
Well, mom and dad will never understand

Love 💕 this I’m gay & under stand we’re he’s coming from on this song I came out in 2012
bridge: 0:46
"I found out what it takes to be a man"
I am not bi or gay, but that was the most powerful part too me. I guess cause I never grew up like all the other boys. I wasn't into sports, cars, wrestling, (WWF I believe it was back then) or even cared about girls. I just liked doing my own thing. I was just a kid with an active imagination. I now use that creativity for writing lyrics and short stories.
Reminds me of riding the bus to school in 7th grade listening to this (blue) cassette on my Sony walkman with the dry-rotting earpieces on my headphones.
I just got the ad for Father of All twice in a row before the video. Not even mad
I'm 17 but not bisexual so I half relate this song
Original is good but the Pierce the Veil cover is a banger
Welp whoever disliked this video is either homophobic or just doesn’t like the song. Either way, they’re still wrong.
Love it but it's to short
I like how I’m straight and I still fucking love this song
💗💜💙
Yo how many layers of gatekeeping am I on
The mind of a musical genius is being compromised by the world again..
92 PEOPLE DON'T WANNA COME CLEAN !!! LOL 😆 😉
Some Green Day fans when they listen to this song they're like..
".... Nah he's trolling"
I'm 18 and still strung out on confusion.
Does this ever go away?
My favourite Green Day song
i turned 17 and now im legally allowed to listen to this song so gay rights i guess
I know that this is Billie Joe's bi anthem, but I also get FTM vibes from this.
I mean, it can be interpreted as coming out of any type or just accepting yourself for who you are. That's the thing about art, it can have multiple interpretations.
I think it fits for every part of the LGBT+, if you insert whatever you are into it, it fits
I have a tattoo that’s dedicated to this song. It helped me back in middle school when i was deathly afraid of coming out as bisexual and it still helps me to this day 💖
i always looked for some music or artist i could take as an inspiration for me being bisexual and stuff, and i always had this and didn't knew. i already loved this song, but it has so much more meaning for me now. thank u billie and green day.
Sad story I got expelled and I had a good friend and I had to say bye forever and I am writing a song about it and it has been a year now and I really really miss him so

It doesn't matter what your sexual preference is. Equality to everyone!
@Amber133 Lee Why in the actual fuck have you replied this same response to like 15 different goddamn comments
BI ANTHEM!!
I love your pfp-
I kinda relate to this but I also kinda don't since I'm not bi, I'm trans and pansexual
@Amber133 Lee Why do you keep replying this it is completely irrelevant towards this comment
Baby Jaguar The Cutie Welll Pan is under the bi umbrella soo you can lay claim to this song as well!!!
I can relate.
This song is about him being being bi and I am too!! I love it so much ❤️
Favorite Dookie track
0:45 is so satisfying
Billie's vocal at 0:54 is so satisfying
tell me when its 2020, cause i've been waiting for 9 years now
Seventeen and strung out on confusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trapped inside a role of disillusion!
I sang this at a teenage high school thing with some people from my school and some from schools all over the city. No teachers. My friend and I played four Green Day songs. Minority, Whatshername, Coming clean, and when September ends.
I play the drums and my friend plays the guitar(acoustic and electric and sometimes bass)
For this song he gave me the mic and I changed the word 17 to 13 because that’s how old I was when I had my first crush on a girl. That’s how I came out
Stoned Shaggy there is no excuse to hate and so what? It’s 2019 grow up.
@Brent Cribbs *Latent homosexuality intensifies*
Yeah it ain't about puberty it's about coming out of the closet
Its about coming out of an ass
Stoned Shaggy no
@Amber133 Xo Exactly. It would be the same if he married a man. It wouldn't make him gay because he still has the capacity to be attracted to women. There's a real discrimination against bisexual people because most people have this unfair idea that you have to "choose a side" or whatever.
What does he mumble at 0:56?
Seventeen and strung out on confusion

I've found out what it takes to be a man
Now mom and dad'll never understand
Secrets collecting dust but never forget
Skeletons come to life in my closet
I've found out what it takes to be a man
Now mom and dad'll never understand
What's happening to me
Seventeen and coming clean for the first time
I finally figured out myself for the first time
I've found out what it takes to be a man
Now mom and dad'll never understand
What's happening to me
@Nicholas Weatherman *The Pope wants to know your location*
To me this song means growing up out of the teenage years.
im straight but i like love this song
its not just sexuality my dude, it's about being accepted for who you are
@Amber_cakes133 Lee why do you keep fucking commenting this
To me the 90s is dookie and nevermind
And Goo!
and weezer and NIN
Also Radiohead
This song gave me enough confidence to tell one of my closest friends about my bisexuality
Good for you, hope you'll be able to come out to more people in the future ^^
This is how I'm spending my 17 birthday sad and alone
THE Equalizer no one should ever be alone happy birthday birthday to you with lots of love💜💜💜
The first person i told that i was bi was a lesbian and i was still nervous af
🤘1994 what a year so many great albums that year from Green Day to nine inch nails to pantera
Metal Head 24 Dookie, Weezer, Cheshire Cat (Blink-182), and so many more dude.
Idiot Punk Guitarist I’m not a big blink-182 or weezer fan however your right that year also gave us super-unknown(soundgarden), the division bell(Pink Floyd ),jar of files (Alice in chains), ready to die (the notorious b.i.g)
I remember when listening to this song for the first time. I was in 6th grade, and just came out as bi to people. It resonated with me, and helped me cope with all the judgment I was receiving. This also now resonates with me because I came out as transgender last summer. This song is overall amazing, and I'm glad there's a song about accepting yourself without it sounding sappy.
this is late but Epic
@Static Stalin you are the big gay
@Brent Cribbs ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Good on you! Being truthful with yourself is a freeing feeling and i'm glad you were able to! :)
listen to a song called queer recovery club by fail better, heal faster
Not gay not really support them but this song rocks
Yeah this song is really good
There are 30+ of these guys that are even greater than this one.
Best song
This song was written about being bisexual. But to me it’s about growing up and getting people to accept you for who you are.
It can really be applied to any sort of acceptance or even just growing up in general
@Amber133 Lee yeah he said that
Dedicated to Riley Cavanaugh. Rock on...
Amazing song
Is it weird that this song makes me cry
kaelyn it is not I do too
Yes. It means 1. You think you're a boy and 2. You have a personality disorder that requires immediate attention.
@gbmpyzochwfdisurjklvanetxq Ok, boomer
Im rly upset i wasnt born when these guys started out :( o well, either way, im glad i get to hear them
i just used this song to come out to my friend :)))
I'm proud of you! Drag is punk even if rpdr doesn't show it. Being LGBT is punk. Don't let anyone inside or outside the community separate the two. Being unashamedly you is about at Punk as you get.
This song speaks to me.
This song speaks to a lot of people.
For real
For some reason this is one of my favorites
@Amber133 Lee that's an oddly specific request
It means something different to everyone but I think to Billie Joe it's about coming out of the closet since he "came out" that he's bisexual.
its kind of got three direct meanings, its about billie coming out (but as a he was a teenager), but i mean coming clean also has a sort of generic meaning of whatever you want
the third meaning of "mom and dad will never understand" is about the teenage angst that keeps teenagers from being happy with their parents
i mean he literally said it was about his coming to terms wrt being bi and its really about any teenager going through similar stuff and as a bi guy myself the song really means a lot to me
To me it means: coming out and growing out of the teenage years.
@Noah bi girl but same
GOOD SONG.
@Amber133 Xo you replied this to so many comments it's funny. Nothing against bi people tho
I'm so mad I wasn't born in the 90's
You'd want to be born INTO the 90s to enjoy this, not born in. Means you'd want to be born around 75-83, give/take.
Born in the 90s most likely means you'd like Pokemon and boy bands.
in the mid-80s to have heard them in the 90s
@Malachi Sowards its just a statement, yt comments or anything on internet, isnt abt what the majority would care about, its about saying what you want, and expressing yourself, like even the video ur on isnt about anything too serious or important or interesting, just about coming out as bi, self expression. and you may say ''well im just expressing MY opinion'', when really comments like urs just look stupid.
fred durst your comment applies to mine genius.
Is this song about being gay?
Bob Dick this isn’t Longview dude
its about being accepted for who you are and the singer (billie joe) coming out song
@Logan Agnew I thought it was about weed.
@Lady Seashell Bikini They have a couple songs about drugs (hell, it's where the band's name comes from) but no, this one has been explicitly stated to be about Billie's sexuality.
@Logan Agnew I meant in reference to Longview. I may have replied to the wrong commenter.
i love this song
comment. good green day.
@Amber133 Lee you good bro?
