Green Day - Another State Of Mind Lyrics

I'm in another state, another state of mind
I wish that I could be there right next to her
Well, this road leads to this, and this one leads to that
Her voice sends shivers down my spine

These scars in my flesh
I'm bruised and I'm bloodied
Only she knows the pain
That I've been through

Talk to her a thousand miles away
There's tears in her eyes
If I make it back I'm gonna show her
She's the only one for me

Hitch a ride on the wild side
It's real hell on wheels
There's gonna be a fight tonight
I know

Another city we can't find
Another city left buried behind
As I picture her
The cities burn away

These scars in my flesh
I'm bruised and I'm bloodied
Only she knows the pain
That I've been through

Talk to her a thousand miles away
There's tears in her eyes
If I make it back I'm gonna show her
She's the only one for me

These scars in my flesh
I'm bruised and I'm bloodied
Only she knows the pain
That I've been through

Talk to her a thousand miles away
There's tears in her eyes
If I make it back I'm gonna show her
She's the only one for me

Green Day Another State Of Mind Comments
  1. p.... ....

    No. Just No.

  2. D.... O....

Sounds almost like the chorus from "409 In Your Coffeemaker" :)

  3. I.... C....

People here are expecting that this would really match the original. Do you guys don't know what's the purpose of covers or you just don't have a common sense?

  4. W.... K....

punk is self refuting. Have a voice to be heard, be heard, gain popularity. See the problem?

  5. W.... W....

Sweet, love both these bands !!

  6. R.... D....

sounds good respect! bought the SD tape when it came out was out of print 4 years !

  7. v.... ....

I left a green day show, they suck. SD rules

  9. d.... b....

    still not impressed.

    d.... b....

    darrell blaney so?

  10. A.... M....

    sounds like pinhead gunpowder.

    A.... M....

Anthony Mendeola not really, it sounds like Social Distortion.

  11. E.... S....

For all of you saying that Green Day are a bunch of Sellouts, Hello?? Mike Ness is a multi millionaire. Social D also sold out.

    E.... S....

Do you understand what a sellout is?

    E.... S....

WatchDog435 Funny, most of there peers seem to disagree. Sit on your podium and sniff your own ass

    E.... S....

A punk band that learns how to play their instruments.

    E.... S....

WatchDog435 Yea selling out is when your bands signs to a major record label, gets extremely popular and play a sold out venues and festivals. Yes Social D Checks off on all of those. So yes they sold out.👍

  12. L.... C....

    nah, social distortion is better

    L.... C....

    Covers aren't about who's better

  13. Y.... G....

The guitar solo on this was very ... meh. The rest was better than expected

    Y.... G....

It's a note for note replica of Mike's solo. That's how the song was written.

  14. C.... R....

    Awesome !!!

  15. M.... B....

1 of my favorite bands + cover of 1 of my favorite bands = great track

  16. G.... R....

This cover is actually pretty fucking good. 👍

    G.... R....

agreed, but so is the original song, and the original has a faster edge to it

  17. H.... B....

this seems more like a blink 182 song

    H.... B....

@Emberdin it sounds like 2003 blink if THEY were to have made this song or covered it

    H.... B....

Green Day are Veterans to Blink 182, so what you really mean to say is Blink 182 sounds like Green Day.

    H.... B....

@Eric Sirias but they different styles of music. so thats why i said what i said cause it just sounds like something blink would sing back in 2003

    H.... B....

This is a Social Distortion cover song, Blink 182 sounds absolutely nothing like Social Distortion. What the hell have you guys been smoking?? Blink 182 sounds nothing like Social Distortion! That's like saying Justin Bieber sounds like Metallica. Absolutely absurd!

    H.... B....

    😂😂😂

  18. U.... G....

    Awesome!

  19. L.... W....

    Shitty cover.

  20. J.... A....

    2 great bands <3

  21. R.... R....

Social Distortion is soooooo much better, as the originals usually are. Sorry.

    R.... R....

I'm not a Green Day fan but it's not bad I guess lol

    R.... R....

Well of course because they made the song WTF .

    R.... R....

Mr.Sickboy it's not trying to be better it's honoring it

    R.... R....

"Twist and Shout" Beatles vs. Top Notes. Is the original better?

    R.... R....

    SonicRyan1992 Beatles version is better.

  22. W.... M....

The cover was meant to honor to the song for respect. They're not trying to seem better you twats.

    W.... M....

William McCarthy but social distortion did it better

    W.... M....

Original is always better than the other one, but that doesn't change the fact ,that it was awesome!

    W.... M....

Anders49 oh my god hahahaha one must not compare the original to a cover... Duh just an ounce of common sense

    W.... M....

    People are stupid

  23. G.... G....

It seems people don't know what does a band have in mind when covering another band's music...

  24. S.... m....

saw one of my favorite bands covering a song of my other favorite bands, I damn near shat myself

    S.... m....

    Agreed Haha XD

  25. B.... ....

The similarities between Mike Ness and Billie Joe are incredible, cover sounds almost exactly like the original!

    B.... ....

Actually no the real problem is that today is my birthday and you should be wishing me a happy birthday

    B.... ....

@Mr.Sickboy Oh, I didn't know. Okay. Happy birthday then.

    B.... ....

Thanks! I'm done nagging you now.

    B.... ....

@Mr.Sickboy Your welcome, dude. Hope you had an awesome b-day.

    B.... ....

And here we see a circle jerk caused by an innocent comment, ending in a birthday blowjob.

  26. N.... ....

no harmony huh? they should have covered story of my life!

  27. P.... ....

So you don't like it because it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a basement? Man, you're brilliant.

  28. T.... M....

I really don't see how it can suck when it's almost the same as the original, but ok, everybody has his own opinion, and I have to respect it...I guess

  29. T.... E....

I don't like post-American Idiot Green Day but this cover is pretty great!

  30. T.... M....

Explain how American Idiot is a sellout record. They changed the sound, but pushed-through the political/religious message even more.

  31. T.... M....

If you didn't know that's Green Day covering it, you would like it. Hypocrite.

  32. b.... s....

    no comment

  33. S.... ....

Punks never leave people alone ... We never shit people who want to be good , we excuse you ...

  34. C.... T....

Right on homie! Great YouTube name.

  35. R.... R....

I agree, Social Distortion may have not been as popular but they certainly are great influences and have gone through a lot and still survived. And they never sold out :) They're just simply more successful than Green Day. And I gotta say that documentary was the BEST! XD

  36. P.... ....

This is an awesome cover. I love the original as well but this is right up there with it. Love both Green Day and Social Distortion so it seems the perfect fit.

  37. b.... s....

This is a great cover. I listen to minor threat, operation ivy, old rancid, but I guess some people have there heads so far up there asses they can no longer recognize good rock and roll. Love this original song. Love this cover.

  38. z.... ....

It's not as good as the original, but it's not crap.

  39. e.... p....

I love SxDx, but this is crap. it's not as good as social distortion. it's still really good just not as good as the original.

  40. C.... T....

when i think of this song, i don't think of "rock" or (*shudders*) "alternative". It's a 1982 Social Distortion song, which means its HARCORE PUNK ROCK. You mentioned history to me. Check out "Another State of Mind", a movie about Social D's '82 tour w/Youth Brigade and Minor Threat. It chronicles Mike Ness writing this song. Let me tell you, it has nothing to do with "rock" , "alternative", "pop" (Green Day), or mainstream corporate "success". In terms of punk rock, Social D is more successful.

  41. T.... ....

Man, don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing 'true' punk and the reason why it was created, it's up to you whether you want to follow that style or not. I can't really have a say in what America was like in the 70's as I'm from the UK. That's a good story but y'know? That's a personal one and not everyone shares the same personal experience as you....

  42. S.... ....

because it was hard in those days to be someone you needed to fight . But green day is one of most successful rock/alternative groups ever so why you say its shit they are now about 40 years each . This cover is shit because in nowadays you cannot find 70's microphone

  43. C.... T....

well i've been away... for 6 months. and i do know history. what's there to argue about? the comment you replied to merely said social distortion are greater than green day. what "history" can change that opinion.

  44. S.... ....

you know what go away if you dont know history i dont even want to argue

  45. S.... ....

I wouldnt say awful but bad they arent punks they sing alternative

  46. S.... ....

Times change but people no . Why people still believe in God . If you dont understand what you write then dont
I dont whana to argue ... But at those time they were nothing they didnt have money at all . Ask your granddad what he thinks about america in 70 and about people. We were scared we didnt know what to do so we made Punk , we popularise anarchy .. And you know i was homeless in 90s but my friends believe in me and i made my life back . Now i have home and why , Punk helped me and me

  47. S.... ....

FUck you its when it all started ... Go to justin beaber and cry wirth him

  48. T.... ....

Nice spelling and grammar mate! I'm just curious now, considering you've mentioned it, what part of my comment implies that I like pop music, hmm? If you are reffering to 'advanced further in technology' then it's kind of stupid because you can't deny that times have changed.

  49. C.... P....

Kerplunk I, when you've been around for over 30 years and yiure still kicking ass, then you can criticize social D, but until then shut the hell up.

  50. K.... l....

this is Green Days worst cover, but the original song sucks. so BOTH of these songs are terrible-even if theyre the same

  51. S.... ....

You wouldn't better i even don't started talk about music you listen

  52. S.... ....

If you like pop , go to Miki Minaje ass

  53. T.... ....

    good job nico.

  54. T.... ....

Shit. Kill them for keeping thier guitars in tune, how dare they keep them in tune. *rolls eyes*

This is a cover, it's not meant to sound EXACTLY like the original, it sounds more 'polished' because we have advanced further in technology, jesus christ. You still have the original, go lick Mike Ness's bum over there.

  55. J.... T....

That solo didn't soung good. like at all.

  56. R.... R....

That's EXACTLY what I thought. Obviously they've got to like the song if they covered it. Well why not add EMOTION!? It's pretty sad how they make everything for the radio now. It's like they don't even have a passion for music anymore. Mike Ness wrote this song about tour and his life struggles as a teenager. Billie Joe couldn't relate completely to that, therefore the emotion already differs. I mean they didn't even try to make it more passionate. It's all perfected and emotionless. Ugh :/

  57. R.... R....

Ha! I know right! Why would somebody EVER think punk should go pop? It's ridiculous! I can't believe how much they sold out! Okay, I was fine when Dookie came out, I kinda just knew they were gonna get big. But I didn't think they'd sell out! Boy was I wrong when American Idiot came out.

  58. R.... R....

This is nothing compared to the original. It has NO feeling. Some parts were good, I can agree. But his voice is annoying. And I can't stand how they "perfected" the guitar part by keeping it in tune and making everything perfect. I love how Social D was imperfect. It shows how great the band was even without a good recording. Green Day... pop punk!? Punk music I typically not mainstream. Only sellouts change their music for the radio; Green Day.
Yup call me a hater. I used to be a fan y'know.

  59. D.... R....

    you suck

  60. T.... ....

I'm a huge Social Distortion fan and when I saw that Greenday, who I dont know much about, covered this, I was really a bit skeptical... yaknow, covering one of your favorite songs, it can go either way... but I think this is actually a really good cover.

  61. T.... ....

Who cares if this is a cover?
they cover bands they like to show respect to them!
and its a nice cover, i like it, i dont mind if you do or not

  62. C.... T....

yeah, their Lookout! records, and Dookie/Insomniac. Don't mind me, I was in a bitter old man mood, which is funny, I remember Billie Joe saying that about Henry Rollins, the Dickies, and other old school punks who were complaining abou, t the success of GD, the Offspring, and the like. I don't like GD anymore, but who cares? most ppl don't like a lot of my favorite bands either... i probably like it better that way, lol.

  63. C.... ....

As I understood, u like the old Green Day, don't ya?

  64. C.... ....

Lol this song is better than most of 21st CB. It has punk energy Green Day has lost since AI. More of these should come to the albums, not be hidden.

  65. J.... S....

I Love Social D this cover is awesome :)

  66. S.... ....

Don't reply to this! I don't want your crap.
Part of it sounds like "Doctor Who 1000 miles away."

  67. K.... N....

I want this to be played in my funeral

  68. J.... ....

No. I still believe in personal preference. That case is not entirely proven to be right or wrong. Who says people don't prefer this version? But anyways, what I meant to say was that a mistake in the original imitated in a mistake of a cover wouldn't be a mistake. So if there are any flaws in the way this band played it, then the same can be found in the original. However, I'm not saying it's a perfect cover. Aside from it being cleaner, I don't really see the problem.

  69. C.... T....

nah, a sucky band can do something cool. credit where its due; knowing they covered BB, that's the coolest thing i've ever heard about coldplay.

i didn't mind green day with the lookout albums, then dookie and insomniac, but to me they're completely played out now, and watered down to boot. but to each there own. as for cover songs, "imitating" (your word) the original is usually not gonna win you praise. fans of the original will always prefer the original in that case. make the song your own!

  70. J.... ....

The first line of your comment alone contradicts your opinion.

  71. C.... T....

coldplay suck b/c coldplay suck, but if they covered beastie boys, then that's cool. green day neutered this song. you're right, they added nothing... that's not a good thing! instead, you get a polished, slickly produced version of a raw classic from the hardcore era. why bother? there version of the clash's version of "i fought the law" was even worse. now when social d covered the clash ("death or glory") it stood up. not as good as the original, but unique and worthy.

  72. C.... T....

social distortion > green day, by half.

  73. N.... ....

@kegs95 so Insomniac wasn't punk? Do some fucking research

  74. I.... L....

I wouldn't really care about this cover if Green Day wasn't one of the biggest sell out bands ever responsible for trying to make "punk" mainstream. They should've stuck to their pop/post punk stuff.

  75. P.... C....

nice try green day but not a patch on Social D

  76. z.... ....

Oh, I feel like I should add to my comment. It's not the original recording where Mike Ness sings that line that way. It's the live version off their Live At The Roxy album.

  77. z.... ....

It's an OKAY cover. I like Green Day, but I like Social D more, and this cover sounds pretty weak. Mike Ness sang it with SO much passion. Compare the way Mike sings "I'm BRUISED and I'm BLOODIED!" in the original to the way Billie Joe just flows smoothly over it like "I'm bruuuuised and I'm bloooodied". I just like The Social D version more. It has way more passion and angst, in my humble opinion.

  78. z.... ....

I agree. Social D for the win!

  79. J.... ....

The funny thing is that a lot of idiots think Green Day covers of other bands songs suck when GREEN DAY actually imitates the original song most of the time. Sure, you can diss Coldplay for covering a Beastie Boy song in a very different way by saying it sounds really different and the guy isn't even rapping, but fucking Green Day pulls of ever song they cover! If you think any Green Day cover of a song sucks, then the original should too. What the fuck's so bad about it? I don't see.

  80. J.... ....

    and FUCK YOU!

  81. B.... S....

    I hate ya ;)

  82. B.... S....

    you suck

  83. j.... ....

    stop feeding the troll.
I dont blame you but it has a backfire effect on all of us.

  84. W.... ....

Im in another state of mind... with social distortion... not green day.
    alright cover though.

  85. s.... ....

    the original is way better!

  86. S.... R....

    no fuck YOU

  87. S.... R....

    I'm a man

  88. S.... R....

but what they're covering is a punk song

  89. d.... ....

    fuck you

  90. T.... ....

can someone explain the difference between rap and gangster rap for me

  91. b.... ....

    U damn bitch

  92. S.... R....

    this sucks

  93. I.... ....

@floatto3 I'm not mad at them, i think both the original and this one are amazing, although i kinda like this one better lawl.

  94. T.... W....

@ImNoJadedImsoniac big man grew up in 8 months...must have popped out a kid or are full of shit. you cant get mad at a band for covering their inspiration.

  95. I.... ....

@niekolas I was young and foolish when i left that comment.

  96. S.... ....

@niekolas Amen to that, I enjoyed this cover but it ain't a patch on Social Distortion.

  97. S.... ....

Not as good as the original, or as fun to listen to in my opinion but still... it's not a bad effort.

  98. E.... A....

    FODA - DEFINE

  99. B.... F....

I have to say this about green day.. Joe strummer said it simply. He was happy to hear green day on the radio. It was better then the other shit they played. Green day day worked 5 years touring constantly before they ever made a dime. To me that's punk!

  100. I.... ....

    Love it!
