Green Day - 16 Lyrics

Every night I dream the same dream
Of getting older and older all the time
I ask you now, what does this mean?
Are these problems just in my mind?
Things are easy when you're a child
But now these pressures have dropped on my head
The length I've gone are just long miles
Would they be shorter if I were dead?

Every time I look in my past
I always wish I was there
I wish my youth would forever last
Why are these times so unfair?

Look at my friends and see what they've done
Ask myself why they've had to change
I like them better when they were young
Now all these times are rearranged
I look down and stand there and cry
Nothing ever will be the same
The sun is rising, now I ask why?
The clouds now fall and here comes the rain

Every time I look in my past
I always wish I was there
I wish my youth would forever last
Why are these times so unfair?

Every night I dream the same dream
Of getting older and older all the time
I ask you now, what does this mean?
Are these problems just in my mind?
Things are easy when you're a child
But now these pressures have dropped on my head
The length I've gone are just long miles
Would they be shorter if I were dead?

Every time I look in my past
I always wish I was there
I wish my youth would forever last
Why are these times so unfair?

I got a hold of this album in San Francisco in 1990, I had no idea who they were, where they were from, all I knew is they were incredible. A few months later I happened to see them perform at an abandoned barn in San Barbara and recognized the music. I was blown away that they were kids. No more than 18 at the time, which meant they were 16, or 17 when they wrote theses songs. They were talented far beyond their years. The was the last I heard of them. Fast forward to 1993, they opened for Bad Religion at the Warfield in SF and I thought -oh wow these kids are still around, cool!. The rest is history, they become Full blown rock stars by 1994. People thought they were just overnight sensations, and pop punk sellouts, which maybe they were. It should be noted they paid their dues and came up with the DIY ethic in the underground scene. Just so happened their sound appealed to a more main stream audience and were offered opportunities they would have been foolish not to accept.
