Gray, David - Fixative Lyrics
If there's a diamond in my mind
Will it dwindle down to naught
Or will it always be defined
If I cant fix it with my heart
That I might look into your eyes
And look so hard that I can taste
That winter sun that never sets
The swallow caught up in the nets
The perfect chorus when it hits
Don't slam the door, boy, when you leave
Was heading northward when I saw
That empty house out in the midst
There are traces left for sure
So I'm returning to the word
That I might look between the lines
That I might dutifully recall
The blue within your seagull stare
The funny ways you had to care
For every little thing beyond compare
Don't slam the door, boy, when you leave
So now I'm calling in the gulf
When you went walking with wolf
Hey boy, you really brought it on yourself
Don't slam the door, now, when you leave
The strangest for we ever faced
The stark in every staging grace
Is crushing diamonds into paste
Don't slam the door, boy, when you leave
Don't slam the door, boy, when you leave

An astoundingly excellent songwriter and singer. Apparently he's read a chunk of my life's story. Damn.

A true talented songwriter my favourite singer keep going david
I've been a David Gray fan for many years but I'm not ashamed to say that I only heard this song for the first time the other day. As soon as I start listening to this it took me back to when I split up with a girl I should of married and be living with now as a family but that wasn't to be. I miss you Angela and I always will. X
this song will maybe always make me cry for my best friend who died last year. When he was about to go the lyric "Don't slam the door, boy, When you leave" was painfully true. Love DG to bits, such a talented musician and vocalist
I Miss You, Buddy!
Still one of the greatest I've seen live and I've seen a few I was lucky to meet him great person.
I believe David wrote this about the passing of a great friend always been a favourite of mine truly sublime.
Goddam...he's done it again.
Yet another favourite David Gray song. Unreal...
This song brings tears to my eyes every time. The softness and delicacy of the refrain is simply exquisite.
I've been a huge David Gray fan for awhile now, but today was the first time I heard this song. It wrecked me on the inside. I've never had a song move me in the way that this one did. Such a devastatingly powerful song.
SOMEONE HELP.... I know I heard this song Fixative years ago... but I recently heard in on Pandonra and I am certain that was additional lyrics... something to the effect of 'dare I reach for your hand down in the deep blue when I am only standing on quick sand'
AM I CRAZY?
what a gem!
Glad to see him going back to basics on this album. Simply amazing voice!
I love you David Gray....Always.
underrated, love it
What a great piece of art this tune is!!!Thanks for all the good music Dave.
