Grateful Dead - Playing In The Band Lyrics
Some folks trust to reason
Others trust to might
I don't trust to nothing
But I know it come out right
Oh I hope you understand
When it's done and over
Lord, a man is just a man
Playing
Playing in the band
Daybreak
Daybreak on the land
Some folks look for answers
Some folks up in treetops
Just look to see the sights
I can tell your future
Look what's in your hand
But I can't stop for nothing
I'm just playing in the band
Playing
Playing in the band
Daybreak
Daybreak on the land
Standing on a tower
World at my command
You just keep a turning
While I'm playing in the band
If a man among you
Got no sin upon his hand
Let him cast a stone at me
For playing in the band
Playing
Playing in the band
Daybreak
Daybreak on the land
Playing
Playing in the band
Daybreak Daybreak on the land

Grateful Dead Playing In The Band Comments
That beginning 😊
Such a pretty song
Phil just kills this. Sooooo good.. thanks Phil
Bob Weir always wrote great songs.
I am a dead head.
Still my favorite version of this song.
Well, it’s very helpful for learning to play the song on guitar, (or any instrument I suppose).
I love Bobs voice in this song, something different about it.
summer's used to last forever, hot was heat, the shadows were long, big fat jays and a cold beer.
My niece on nov.2 auntie when you get your house can i play your drums.
Yes my love.
Let me put your sticks back before you close your storage door. Kids.
I was busy
Busy playing in the band
Something about the sweetness of Jerry's guitar in this song makes me vaguely sad since his passing. We miss you Jerry....TJ STRUSKA
With so many great songs in their catalog this one has to be right near the top.
Cactus
Steve Miller
Grateful Dead (One drummer Billy K. & Pigpen)
Jimi Hendrix
Temple Stadium, Phila, Pa, May 1970
ah yes, brings me back
Important, this track-- need really good speakers, down to 20Hz bass. The bass is epic.
The organ is great
Jerry's guitar tone is so sweet you want to cry
TJ STRUSKA
I'd rather here Bob sing , but he is so dificult, sorry Bob for laying uncuntius, and dragged out of every show by the paramedics
Epiphanous.
Classic
Amazing version.
That bass
I’ve had this song stuck in my head for months but didn’t know the track name! I’m glad I stumbled on it finally
Cactus
Steve Miller
Grateful Dead w/Pigpen
Jimi Hendrix
Temple Stadium Philadelphia Pa

Nothin' like the good ol' Grateful Dead.
I agree
I guess the guitar and vocals caught my ear first. the guitar is how you want a guitar in a rock band to be. Very very raw. Pointed out earlier, no huge solos but still excellent. Listening further, vocals are really good. On point. Not that his are bad. Even further , Phil’s bass and Bills drums getting a hell of a workout. Lastly, the lyrics, something very moving, self deprecating maybe, self reflective. Excellent. That’s all I got.
It was my favorite song when I was five or six years old. I think it's the bass guitar, it's really cool to hear the groove as the bass line walks up from F on the verses. How it locks in with A chord when the band plays the bridge, and the way the bass plays octaves for the main theme sounds great with the organ. The bass line is pretty outstanding I would say!
yeah Id agree with that. tying it all together with lyrics. outstanding.
Some folks look for answers , others look for fights.
Still my favorite Dead album...thank you Aunt Anne.
i did good
deep spiritual lyrics really uplifting soul comforting music thanks for posting
chris binckes I found it to be rather mild and padantiff!
Favorite band for reasons obvious
Capn_Jack_2 The Acid!!!!!!!

If We keep hannging our dirty drawers across the neighbors fence ..that is what we are going to get?
The Dead..... Fuck, what can I say??? Probably one of the Best Rock and Roll Bands amongst. Many.... That made their mark and still continue to influence thousands with their own style of timeless music.... Every song that takes you there...Grateful Dead will never go out of style they just belong.... That's one of their main attributes . that and their songs hit home.
Light the hash pipe and drift along.....ahhh
The Dead will always live because The Dead will never die.
Superb. God I love The Grateful Dead.
« I can’t stop for nothing, I’m just playing in the band » don’t we all wanna play in the band, at least once!

manually adding into the minds of children while growing up watching the tubes like televisions for children, by their parents or Govs. to solve, nothing backing and in bias, groups, telling them to add what the characters are doing that their watching, to a full spread of imaginary characters in their mind, like, additional size people and additional colors with the imaginary characters FOREVER for no bias in, negative to neutral stereotypes for TRUTH Likes, of COLORS + Thin to +++Sleek, For' to not miss out on ALL True Loves Offers:)))),....
and
where you process information, if treat it as such by working back into the mind adding the senses, you'll see you can switch things, from pictoral to script before it enters your awareness, in some cases it happens in a snap others will ""see it then lose it might not be quick to hold the ability there but thats only because never worked the new scenario in other situations and when not stressing is effortless to practice. This also works in senses of touch its way. Add labels to the mind like notes by holding info present in your awareness not only thinking off of memory adding quicker reflexes in every sense with one day using the minds complete ability once applying the process to doing more than one thing to a time like reading and writing a book, all the while taking into the awareness, ONLY WHAT YOU WANT. and with mine i added decor. Plus adding this to children growing up and one day it services itself, through self petition.
got some weed?
dude I have absolutely no idea what message you're trying to convey but it ultimately seems positive so, right on man!
I think he has taken his pills. I'm gonna have a toot then read it again. He is a deadhead after all. peace.
I can't stop laughing at your post. wunderbar. peace Bob.
One of my favorite Grateful Dead songs
Better times
Is it just me or does it sound a little bit like The End by The Doors (as in the instrument tunes)
Yes, I can see that. Good song too!
true that!!!
still awesome though!!!
yeah. especially the intro and exit
sorry no
They're both in D mixolydian but that's about where the similarities end
I know there's not the jam in the middle that we all love, but listen to this, the guitar tones, the organ, the harmonies without Donna, the single drummer. It's just a perfect fucking rock and roll song. A perfect track. Sublime.
Ty! Wonderful observation! It's so great! 💞✌❤
Indeed, this is one of the best Rock and Roll songs ever produced.
I agree. This as fine a version as any. This album is one of my go-to's...
Indeed it is.
The intense feeling I get from listening to the Greatful Dead is almost like what I imagine an out of body experience feels like.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED FRIENDS🎸
I wonder what would happen if they rereleased this on the radio. It is still shockingly good. Those guitar flutters and the organ together are just like candy.
it got airplay alot of it
ear candy
all-star
It's just great!
if a man among you got no sin upon his hand let him cast a stone at me for playing in the band wow

Top 5...."When it's done & over, oh a man is just a man...playing playing in the band"
in 1985 I entered the town of Patzcuaro, Michoacan and the welcoming sign had the skeleton that adorns the Dead's cover.I immediately felt at home.It is a great city with the second largest flea market in Mexico and a beautiful lake. Worth a visit
THEY r Timeless and 4 ever
I've been a Dead Head since the beginning. Best band ever. It's been a long strange trip.

Everything is new music when you hear it for the first time.
You’re kidding !
Never heard of The Grateful Dead??
Bob Weir's version is much better; from his 'Ace' album.
it's not even close to this one
This is the same version
It's his song, also probably my favorite if that's possible. Ace is an excellent album.
no its not about a twenty minute difference lol
Absolutely a work of art!
to my lost brother richie
One Donna didn't ruin. :-)
so you think she ruined the studio version of scarlet begonias ?
OMFG Donna has destroyed so many!
The best thing Donna did was leave the band lol
yeah but for reasons your not even considering
American treasure...long live the Dead!
#StompingM0B
Had some great dances with some wonderful woman to this song at a few concerts. :)
IMHO, this is one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever. Course, I could say that about more than a couple Dead songs. As bands go, they were the GOAT.
Great live guitar Band! Playin in the band.
