Grateful Dead - Franklin's Tower Lyrics
In another times forgotten space
Your eyes looked from your mother's face
Wild flower seed on the sand and stone
May the four winds blow you safely home
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
I'll tell you where the four winds dwell
In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell
It can ring, turn night to day
It can ring like fire when you lose your way
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
God save the child that rings that bell
It may have one good ring, baby, you can't tell
One watch by night, one watch by day
If you get confused listen to the music play
[Instrumental]
Some come to laugh their past away
Some come to make it just one more day
Whichever way your pleasure tends
If you plant ice you're gonna harvest the wind
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
In Franklin's tower the four winds sleep
Like four lean hounds the lighthouse keep
Wildflower seed on the sand and wind
May the four winds blow you home again
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew - roll away

Rest in peace. I dont know who that is but brother, enjoy that palace up in the sky. Jerry's playing a show just for him.
This song is what it’s like to be on mushrooms....roll away the dew!
Pure coolness !

If this Song Doesn't Grow
On You....Nothing Will..
This is another one of my favorite Dead songs. I love the lyrics and melody.

Grateful Dead music is by FAR the ONLY source of abolishing stress, who agrees?
I've heard good things about exercise and taking baby steps toward a better future.
Their are plenty of bands that put me in a place no one else can. Rush, the clash, willie nelson. All great in their own ways!
Fare thee well Robert Hunter. May the four winds blow you safely home!
😓😓😓😓
pure masterpiece
One of the small number of Dead songs to which I prefer the studio version
Totally agree. And the live version I enjoy most is on Dick Picks #3.
Love so much Grateful Dead music, but this has to be one of my favorites!
Whenever I pick up my guitar, I always end up strumming the A,G,D,G that makes up the rythym guitar. It's so fun and enjoyable to just strum and imagine hearing Jerry sing the lyrics. It's like my version of going to church.
There is a kindness to Jerry’s voice in this song that makes my heart melt. And Hunter’s lyrics are ridiculously inspired by unknown forces. Dylan ain’t got nothing on this sweet tune that rivals the best of Keats.
Yup, you're right.
You summed it up perfectly!
this is the best dance song ever
Roll away....The Jew 🎶
Smoking a joint losing myself in the rhythm
David Rosenzweig tzadik
Loved this song when I was a kid, my cousin used to jam it out, something special about there sound, warm, fuzzy, makes me think of morning sunlight pouring through redwoods off the central coast of California I could just bathe in thought for hours.
Entrance....then games on
....be the genius ...geez...
Your eyes looked from your mothers face haha love you mom
Ok YT just because i jam the dead does not mean i own cats or even want to so keep your cat treat ads for someone who needs them!! 👅👅😂😂😂

1975,My first Dead Album out of high school....LOVE...IT !!!
1975. That first note - after Slipknot (?) was the first time the GD penetrated the misamic notion I had of them stemming from the Casey Jones radio cut - which I could not hear - did not connect with so had the totally wrong impression of them by dint of that until I heard this note, bing! not even knowing when I heard it who it was. I've been rolling away the dew ever since.
Dude you need some acid. You take yourself way too seriously
Fiat lux
You better roll away the dew. So funky.
Some come to laugh have passed away....
Some come to laugh the past away too.
this LP jams in so many ways. I would listen to it in the basement away from any distractions.

Makes me.. wistful whene'er I hear this jam.
roll away any doubters right here...they are their own genre
I can hear the entire history of rock in their music. Every great guitarist, every famous singer, every song. They’re all in here.
If you plant dice you will harvest, snake eyes.
Another one of my favorite Dead songs. Jerry was very skilled in songwriting.
This just healed me a little. If only a little I’ll take what I can get

My best friend, Dave Alexander's, favourite Dead tune. I can still picture him grooving to this tune, blasting out of his CJ7 in some off-road location. Loved that guy.
Must have been a really cool dude if he had a CJ7!
I tried rolling away the dew but I was not very good
TRY ROLLIN AWAY THE DOOB

Damn,Robert hunter!!.what a writer
sizzling bacon
Every time this song plays I think of Mac DeMarco
dude, yeah...couldn't you imagine him singing sugaree?
I had forgotten how wonderful this song is? I haven't listened to this tune in maybe 30 yrs?? Completely forgotten the music from Blues for Allah? But, I DID remember that THIS was an album I needed to rediscover, and I am so glad I did...The Dead had such an incredibly CLEAN sound at this very point in their career as a band !~! Smooth as silk...
Not me that my first desd 8 track..
Learning how to play guitar, this song was one of my first choices
Good choice this songs got a nice easy and simple scale to play along with.
yeeew rock on and stick to it!
GD songs are the best to learn. I suggest sugaree and China cat sunflower(that riff is a little more complex but so much fun)
Classic Dead
This song bubbles up from the earth like spring water and is just as medicinal and forever renewing.
That's a great way to describe it!
A. Beautiful bubble
I love hearing it echo across the field at festivals in the morning when Im trying to sleep in my tent
It's like getting a back rub through your ears.
Your gone
you plant ice your gonna harvest wind.......
great stuff.
This is a good recording but it's amazing how much better the live versions are
Wake and bake.

Miss these guys in Las Vegas of ‘95, needless to say I did not get the chance to see the OG crew. Roll away the dew..
I saw RatDog way back in like '00 or '01... Sad, I can't remember exactly when. I just barely remember they played Touch of Grey.
Very chill tune...

This tune is about the liberty bell in philadelphia. They used to roll the dew off the new bells back then to prevent cooling too fast.
