I agree that a lot of the studio stuff is great.  Some of the live stuff, not so much, other live stuff kicked ass.  Some of the live stuff sucked (out of tune or failed solos).

hey,I saw them at numerous shows where they were lucky just to get on the stage...lol and for me to find the entrance!!!Visa via the Lysergic colored glasses I used to wear!!!But I also saw them play side B of Terrepin station at the Grass Valley fairgrounds in 1983 and it was THE BEST,better than the album,by far,and the drums that day changed me and my drumming forever!!!

@james baker Side B of Terrapin Station? That consists of the song Terrapin Station hahaha, and it was never performed fully in concert. The Dead would play the first couple parts, and once in like 1977 they played a more complete version though still not the whole thing. Robert Hunter on the other hand has performed the complete Terrapin Station with added sections, it is the Terrapin Suite.

I think when you here the remarkable variety of their live shows its hard to go back to listening to the album version any more than the hundreds of live versions :-)

I agree some of their songs are better studio songs, but the majority of their songs are better live and when you can get different versions of those songs live, over the years its fucking cool

Love this fucking album and this song!! Saw them live on 3/23/1992 at the palace of auburn hills, MI. Bruce Hornsby on the piano, magical. Happy belated B-day Jerry, would have been 70

Don't get me wrong, nothin' beat a dead show, but I do love hearing the album version of the majority of their songs every once in a while. GREAT SONG, GREAT BAND. R.I.P. Jerry, peace man.
