Gordon Lightfoot - Sixteen Miles Lyrics

Early in the morning when the dew is on
Each and every rose bud you will find me gone
So knock me down and pick me up
And knock me down again
Break my heart steal my gold
And slander my good name
Seven lonely hours on the morning train
Takes me to a place where I won't come back again
Seven lonely Pullmans speedin' down the line
Takin' me away from an old love of mine

Sixteen miles to seven lakes way up among the pines
In some hidden valley where the twirlin' river twines
Where the fish swim up and down
And the sparklin' water falls
Where the thunder rolls
And the lonely puma calls

Somewhere on the mountain I'll take another name
Rid my mind of memories and start my life again
Somewhere in the wilderness
I'll build a cabin small
Then forget so I
Won't remember you at all

Remember when Gordon had his own BBC television show in the UK in the early 60's when they marketed him as a country singer with the name oF Gordy Lightfoot. A massive talent always worth a listen to with many great songs.

I call him "The Great Gordon"! -been listening to, can you believe it from India and enjoying his songs from the 70's this is obviously one of his earlier and lesser-known songs - but I've known it forever -! brilliant as usual in rhythm, rhyme. flow, melody, construct - not a single line is repeated.as usual -brief but brilliant as always - just love them .. Gifted from above without a doubt !! Only 927 views and 7 likes including mine ?? !!! what is wrong with this world ??? class has no value or what?! Hats off to The Great Gordon!! I usually don't like to say I'm a fan of someone or something but in his case no problem making an exception...bet he doesn't even know he has fans in India
