Gordon Lightfoot - Rainy Day People Lyrics

Rainy day people always seem to know when it's time to call
Rainy day people don't talk, they just listen till they've heard it all
Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell 'ya they've been down like you
Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two

If you get lonely, all you really need is that rainy day love
Rainy day people all know there's no sorrow they can't rise above
Rainy day lovers don't love any others, that would not be kind
Rainy day people all know how it hangs on a piece of mind

Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell you, they've been down there too
Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two.

Rainy day people always seem to know when you're feeling blue
High stepping strutters who land in the gutters sometimes need one too
Take it or leave it, or try to believe it
If you've been down too long

Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside they just pass it on
Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside they just pass it on

The only thing good from people's Republic of Canada

    A.... S....

Lots of good things came from Canada. They just moved to America and became really wealthy.

Shit. I'm crying. I've been having seizures since they lowered my medications and just sick depressed and in general stressed out with all my family drama. Song hit me hard but I love it and my rainy day brothers and sisters

  4. T.... S....

I really love the singer, Mr lightfoot, and the words. Like he is singing about me. But I just love the anonymous quote. Really got to me. The loneliest people are the kindest indeed

  5. J.... ....

  6. D.... S....

Most underrated singer of all time

Another one of many, many Lightfoot classics: I read once that Dylan stated that Gordon Lightfoot was his favorite songwriter, and that when he heard a Lightfoot song he wished it could just go and on---good endorsement, that.

    Lovely on many different levels,

    So I'm a rainy day person ..

  27. B.... S....

    So much truth!!

  28. Y.... ....

I always thought Rainy Day people were people who got high now and then. "Rainy Day Woman" was a euphemism for cannabis back in the day.

  29. M.... I....

If you're a rainy day person, you've probably done more good in this world than you'll ever know.

  30. v.... b....

pure love - i LOVE this guy

  31. i.... r....

still beautiful words in 2019 i love rainy days

  32. V.... E....

1:27 Not sure who would say such nonsense?! No wonder no one wanted their name associated with it. smh

  33. t.... t....

I've been listening to Gordon Lightfoot daily since the 1960s.... I have worn out 3 conversion vans while listening to his music and driving through the mountains..... I met him and chatted with him 2 years ago.... sat in the front row of 2 of his concerts in Detroit, his second hometown and photographed him professionally.... But it was my 85 year old mother who had to tell me that Rainy Day People were the opposite of Fair Weather Friends..... How did she know that ?

  34. A.... H....

For Jeff Lynne. Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding, even as the stone of the fruit must break so it's heart may stand in the sun...so must you know pain.

    A.... H....

Wow~very, very deep! Are those your words/thoughts, or another talented person who has a wounded soul?

  35. Y.... ....

What a shitty video. Why would you put lyrics when you remove them half through the phrases?

  36. 9.... ....

    0:51 Ok, I wasn't expecting that.

  37. C.... D....

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian treasure. I’m proud to be CDN. The true north strong and free!

  38. J.... C....

As a Karaoke singer I hate when the lyrics are to slow, nice try.

  39. j.... s....

totally LOVE the sound of that guitar that does the solo part. have met some of those Rainy Day people. i don't mind if you all cry

  40. C.... R....

My son dies November 1st, 2018. He was 39 and left a 14-year-old son behind. And his momma cries. all the time.

    C.... R....

  41. B.... S....

Thanks for the upload, I needed to hear this tonight =)

  42. C.... G....

HJ, I feel the song speaks for itself, but I must compliment you on your wonderful imagery and extremely tasteful incorporation thereof. Thank you for posting this!

  43. C.... L....

Is anyone else think this song sounds a lot like “where were you when the world stopped turning” by Alan Jackson? Not exactly the same but the chorus sounds very similar to Alan Jackson’s song 🤔

  44. d.... s....

    Gordon's Finest. Say no more..

  45. G.... M....

Gordo's best song! I love rdp

  46. M.... ....

    Happy 80th Birthday Gordon Lightfoot!
    11/17/2018

    M.... ....

I was at a Gord Lightfoot concert right around the time of that birthday. It was held up in Canada, quite a distance from where I live. But friends had bought the tickets and invited me up. The whole audience sang Happy Birthday to him. He's one of my favorite Canadian musicians.

  48. S.... L....

Sorry, can't help noticing in your lyrics: the plural for lover doesn't have an apostrophe before the 's', so it's "lovers", not "lover's"

    S.... L....

Why stop there ?.... Hang's (on a piece of mind) doesn't need an apostrophe either

  49. g.... T....

Reminds me of Keith Whitley and his struggles with depression an booze

  50. g.... T....

Im from portland oregon ... Can so relate !!

  51. C.... R....

I miss my first big, lovely, romantic, and funny friend so much, but I lost his address. His name is Jan Dekker from The Netherlands. It was when we were 18 and 20 years old, now I am 61 years old. But then, way back when, he had a green car, a Peugeot, and he always made me laugh. He was also very romantic and we kissed for hours, just kissing in his car, and on the radio always was Gordon Lightfoot! So romantic!!! We were 18 and 20 years old. Now I am 61 years old, and thinking about him always. Especially when I hear this lovely music and voice from Gordon Lightfoot!!! Jan, how are you? Wish I knew where you are.... Thanks for the good times, your kisses, your jokes, your dancing with me in Bergen, and for Gordon Lightfoot on the radio. Love from Patty de Gooijer xxx

    P.... d....

I hope you find him again!

  56. R.... ....

    “When you go,
    if you go,
And I should want to die,
there's nothing I'd be saved by
    more than the time
you fell asleep in my arms
    in a trust so gentle
    I let the darkening room
    drink up the evening, till
    rest, or the new rain
    lightly roused you awake.
I asked if you heard the rain in your dream
and half dreaming still you only said, I love you.”

  76. V.... B....

Que voz hermosa e irrepetible. Cuantos recuerdos me trae Raining day ' s people!

  77. J.... B....

Actually quite good video. I always liked this tender song. If I had done it, however, I would have not used lyrics; these are a bhit harsh to look at, big reds and blues; - Gord sings clearly enough on all his songs. I would have used more images, more carefully choreographed. Just thinking...

  78. K.... P....

Oregon has seen some rainy days.....

  79. G.... W....

    The dude's a genius.

  80. J.... K....

Rainy day lovers don't mind/ if you cry on a tear or two...

  81. O.... O....

That's OK, Gordon is still winning awards (Songwriters Hall of Fame) and his music lives on. I doubt people will be singing Miley or watching her nasty moves in 40 years. I'll take singer-songwriters' era any time.

Love my brother-in-law deeply as the brother I never had (biologically speaking), and he and I shared lots of Lightfoot tunes. This one is definitely for him. And for me, and the deep friendship we still have despite all of life's ups an downs. He is a true member of the Rainy Day People tribe.

    e.... ....

This is written for AA people.

  89. S.... J....

if we who live in pain didn't try to help others, humanity would not exist...

  90. J.... K....

Rainy day lovers/don't lie when they tell you/ they've been down like you....

    J.... K....

And other so-called "lovers" will stomp on you when your down. Be careful whom you choose to be close to, speaking from painful experiences.

  91. D.... T....
