Gordon Lightfoot - I'm Not Supposed To Care Lyrics

I think you have somebody waiting outside in the rain to take you away
You got places to go, you got people to see still I'm gonna miss you
but anyway
I wish you good spaces in the far away places you go
If it rains or it snows may you be safe and warm and never grow old
And if you need somebody some time, you know I will always be there
I'll do it although I'm not supposed to care

I'll give you the keys to my flying machine if you'd like
I will show you the light and when you call I'm gonna come to you
And when you find someone who loves you, I'll know you would treat me the same
Just lie there, you're not supposed to care

I think you have somebody waiting outside in the rain to take you away.
That's some kind of a game still I'm glad it came down to the final round
but anyway

If you think you need someone who needs you, you know I will always be there
I'll do it although I'm not supposed to care
I'll do it although I'm not supposed to care

  1. A.... O....

Gordon, your words come to me at the strangest times. I don’t understand why they lodge themselves in my brain, and then I come upon a situation that explains everything. I have seen you live at least twice and I sat there with tears of gratitude running from my eyes. You are beautiful, your words and music overwhelming and you have stayed true to our country. I can never thank you enough.

Who else cries when they try to sing along?

    So beautiful

It's impossible not to. It's like trying to sing Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate" along with Dylan. Start out singing and end up curled up on the floor sobbing.

What a profoundly beautiful song in prose and arrangement....haunting like only Lightfoot can do. For 50 years, this one artist has been by my side through all waves of life. I never get tired of him, love his voice, love his intelligence and musical reach. Gordon LIghtfoot has been my most constant musical influence over the years. Thank you Gordon. You are so cool ! Saw you in Aspen last year at Belly Up......what a star !

My experiences with Gordon LIghtfoot touching my mind heart soul are very similar to your story...I am a former professional musician and I have a hyper sensitivity to the beauty of his chord changes and lyrics...He is truly incredible...and I too never grow tired of his songs ever. They serve as an unending inspiration to me actually.
