Goldsboro, Bobby - Me And The Elephants Lyrics
I remember one day we had nothin' to do
So we went down to the city zoo
Just to kill an hour or two
Out in the good sunshine
We feed all the animals and gave each a name
We didn't even mind when it started to rain
We had a real good time
But now that it's over and you're far away
I miss you more with each passing day
All my friends sympathize and say
You'll forget in time, yes you will, give yourself a little time
But it's already been well over a year
How everybody's doin' down at the city zoo, without you
Well the Monkey's forgot you
The Hippo forgot you and so did the Kangaroo
But me and the Elephants we still remember you
Me and the Elephants we'll never forget you
So I wrote to Ann Landers and Dear Abbey too
And asked their advise as to what I should do
They said everything that reminds me of you
Would all have to go
So I burned all your pictures except two or three
The one by my bed and one on my TV
And the one that I always carry with me, every where I go
And today was so nice and since I was in town
I thought I'd take the opportunity to go down
And see how everyone is down at the city zoo, and what's new
Well the Rino forgot you the Zebra forgot you
The Polar Bear and Tiger too
But me and the Elephants we still remember you
Me and the Elephants we'll never forget you

I like Gene Cotton but the Goldsboro is the only version I've heard.
I love this song and still play it on guitar all these years later. Thanks for posting. Please listen to the song " Annie the writers". Thank you.
Beautiful feelings behind Song
can anyone tell me Bobby goldsboro sings " i wrote to Atlanta and Dearaby too" these are obviously states in the usa but why would he be writing to a state in the usa to forget his girlfriend can anyone explain,,,,,lol,,i think Atlanta and Dearaby which must be spelled Dear Abbey are agony aunts not states in the usa lol how could i get it so wrong , probably because im from the united kingdom
Anne Landers and Dear Abby are American agony aunts. Love this song. 40 years old this year.
Agony aunts? Is that an expression used for advice columnists in another country?
Something like that.
I don't know if your joking or what but I will try to explain. Dear Abby and Ann Landers w e r e ladies that used to have columns in the newspaper that you could write to for advice. If your writing is a joke laugh your ass off.
What delight to hear this beautiful song on YouTube. Having grown up overseas, I had imagined this was one of those songs, probably British I was taught in a parochial school over forty years ago!!! I feel so blessed to find, listen and enjoy this song. Reminds me of my late mom who was a teacher in the same school, and loved this song too. Music blesses so much!
Bobby Goldsboro performed and wrote this song because he was a Richard Nixon Republican Party member when most of the other popular music performers were either communists or Black Panthers.
beautiful song great post thanks j vincent edwards AND I PRAY YOUR FRIEND GETS WELL
Don't like this?Oh, you,ve got a real hard heart.This is just a beautiful little song, sung sweetly.Ahhhhhhhhh
A great song and a great performance but Kenny Starr's version is better! This is still good, though.
Hi,everyone,i hope you can listen the Cantonese vision,if anyone konw cantonese.
傷心的小鸚鵡(1980)
writted by:鄭國江(cheng kwok kong)
sung by :陳迪匡(bobby chan)
傷心的小鸚鵡,It mean "a sad little parrot''
I don't know what the hell you're talking about Cantonese nobody that lives in this country should speak Cantonese. You should go listen to Tex Ritter or Frank Sinatra.
I still remember Bobby singing this song on The Tonight Show something like 40 years ago.WOW!
This has always been one of my all time favorite songs! Sometimes, it just impossible to forget the good times with another person.
This song (written by Bennie Whitehead) was first recorded by Gene Cotton in 1975 on his album "For All the Young Writers" on ABC records. Gene had 7 top 100 hits from 1974 to 1982. If you like Goldsboro's version, you'll love Gene Cotton's.
I think that's the version I remember.

My Ex introduced me to this - still reminds me of him!
never heard this before! always great to hear these obscure songs!
Never heart of him or that song, I enjoyed that song. Thanks for posting. I'm fixin to listen to "Honey", my husband said he knows of him.
Try Summer the first time as well
There are many Goldsboro songs worthy of your ears. Bobby always seems gentle and life-affirming.
When Bobby does sentimental songs like this, he never fails to touch our hearts. In fact, I have heard this tune once, when he appeared on a certain radio show. But my favorite Bobby Goldsboro single remains Goodbye Marie.
