Gojira - Wolf Down The Earth Lyrics
First of all you will eat all the bodies
No matter they pray for freedom they'll kill you
Forward you crush those going backward
The wolves are now your lords
Voracious flames upon the earth
Second step you eat all the creation
Swallow the trees the lakes and all the valleys
Crush the moon, and drink the rivers flowing
Deep rolling ocean blow
Burning all that lives
They teach you how to conquer and rule the world
The towers that you built so strong, no man can touch
They tell you how to find and raise the fears
and let them grow inside of your heart they need no walls
Is there a chance you face the void inside?
Winds of doom will blow your pride away
Behold the bright lights coming down on time
Before these altars black, made from your sacrifice
You take for granted what's been there for ages
Inside the womb the new blood gets ready to fight
The buildings of our fathers
crumbling in dark vibrations
Wolf down the one that made us all
No hope, you wolf down the earth

WHY DIDN'T THEY EVER PLAY THIS SONG LIVE?!?!!!???!!
Joe has stated that some of the songs like Wolf Down The Earth, Esoteric Surgery, and some of their early material are too hard to play and sing on a consistent basis and would like to play songs that are easier physically, that’s why they’ve omitted them from set lists.
@Kelly 19202 Makes sense, but it would be awesome listening to this song live :/
If my mind was a song this is it
What an amazing time to be alive.
Gojira they love triplets
they are ridiculously far away from most of competitors, every single note is a hammer and its precision taken to razor edge is simply outstanding
The riff is a language
For anyone interest in the meaning of the lyrics, I believe there is a clear, symbolic and "pagan", for lack of a better word, interpretation here; it is about the reign of Saturn, kronos, ba'al, whose' paradigm we are arguably living under at the moment.
This is explicit in the "eat all the bodies" line, when Saturn reigned he ate his children in order to extinguish any potential rivals. Furthermore, the "blot out the sky, drain rivers" replacing the natural order with the materialism; these gods were said to have reigned over a materlistic Golden age. Blotting out the Sun can also be reference to the lunar cycle, in which these Gods are associated with in opposition to the solar cycle which arises after the these Gods are overthrown. This is buttressed by the statement "in the womb, the new blood", which portends Jupiter/Zues, the son of Saturn/Kronos, who is smuggled away before he can be devoured, and goes on to overthrow his fathers reign and everything associated with it ushering in a new Solar cycle.
Even more evidence for my interpretation can be found in songs like Mouth of Kala, the Hindu god of time[Saturn and Kronos where associated with Time as well, it is where Kronos name is derived], also known to eat children. So they are well aware of Aryan religious themes. The whole album of Mars to Sirius is about Aryan spirituality as well, Sirius being an astrological reference to the Solar, and the Flying Whales in the sky, "from the sky", being a figurative reference to the old solar Gods
That's how I've always felt about Gojira even if they aren't following pagan beliefs. I think that they simply stumbled upon the same core truths. Also might note that Gojira toured with bands like Amon Amarth in the early 2000's when they were less popular and more pagan and less focused on vikings.
It's about man. The bodies eating are animals. The song is about deforestation. The song is a pro-vegan anthem.
Sic as FUCK !!!
Love this
awesome outro!
God Rugal's theme song.
The ending of this song reminds me of the theme song for a show called Survivor Man 5:30-6:25

Most underrated Gojira song. Never gets played live :(
I actually just found both of those songs somewhat recently. I wish they did play these live:(
Joe said in an interview that some songs are too hard to play on the guitar and sing to at the same time, thats why they also dont play full albums.

Good to know I’m not alone with Gojira making me cry. The lyrical context mixed with their phenomenal riffs brings out so much emotion in me almost every time I listen to them.

My sad story (with a happy ending) is that I've know about Gojira for A LONG time, but never took the time to listen until TODAY...I was listening to Alien Weaponry and many commenters were comparing AW with G, so I said, "Self, get over to Gojira and hear what's up - HOLY FUCK!, I've been missing out, but not anymore!"
vive la france
They need to play this song live. It would make an awesome mosh pit.
5:25 to the end : Theme of Folie d'Espagne

theweegit no.
Doesn't fit whatsoever.
@RC15O5 it does very well.
@-Uɴᴅᴇᴀᴅ Cʜᴀɴɴᴇʟ- How exactly?
Esta canción es preciosa
First of all, you will eat all the bodies...
I feel like this song is about preying on the weak and taking advantage of them. in the context of the song it's about the earth.
the first section I feel like is about stepping on people around you and putting them down with no regard to benefit yourself
the second section feels like it's about taking advantage (in a bad way) of what's around you.
the third section is now those types of people have reached a point where the weak no longer have a chance of standing up to them
the fourth feels like it's questioning like will they ever change or will they stay these selfish asses for the rest of their lives
the fifth sections is saying their children will be born in and raised to be the same way
the last section is saying that they never change and their children pick up where their parents left off
the use of the earth as the context I feel is saying that we all have this disgusting characteristic in us at least to an extent because we're all using the destructive technologies our past generations left behind and continuing to step on life in the lower food chain and fuck up the planet. so in short he's saying were all ass holes who prey on the weak and take advantage of those less fortunate than us at least to an extent. that's what I get out of the song
also that riff that starts around 2:39 is fukn gr8
You're correct but I believe there is also a more symbolic, and "pagan" for lack of a better word, way to read it. It appears to be about the reign of Saturn, kronos, ba'al, whose' paradigm we are arguably living under at the moment. This is explicit in the "eat all the bodies" line, when Saturn reigned he ate his children in order to extinguish any potential rivals. Literally preying on the weaks you said in order consolidate their reign.
They proceed with "blot out the sky, drain rivers" replacing the natural order with the materialism; these gods were said to have reigned over a materlistic Golden age. Blotting out the Sun can also be reference to the lunar cycle, in which these Gods are associated with in opposition to the solar cycle which arises after the these Gods are overthrown. This is buttressed by the statement "in the womb, the new blood", which portends the Jupiter/Zues, the son of Saturn/Kronos, who is smuggled away before he can be devoured, and goes on to overthrow his fathers reign and everything associated with it ushering in a new Solar cycle.

So they are well aware of Aryan religious themes. The whole album of Mars to Sirius is about Aryan spirituality as well, Sirius being an astrological reference to the Solar, and the Flying Whales in the sky, "from the sky", being a figurative reference to the old solar Gods.
"first of all you will eat all the bodies no matter they pray for freedom to kill you"
fuck yeah!
Drummers legs must be jello after that intro.
Listen to Decapitated.
He was into a lot of soccer before getting into metal
I think bleed is very technical but doesn't require a lot of endurance 🤔
monsieur délire my god are you wrong, its such a weird rhythm its tiring
BEAST!!
YS ATUN VRAMA PRESH
what really can you say/do when shit starts with "First of all you will eat all the bodies"? headbang to the max is the only possible answer
No, breaking our necks too !
Gojira is one of those bands that can take a simple riff and make it sound like the heaviest shit you've ever heard in your life.
yeah mate it's all about context!!! the frame you put around your riffs, within the composition and accompaniment are actually the secret to being "heavy". Jean luc from gorguts was saying in an interview that you can have a great riff with mediocre accompaniment and it will sound bad. a mediocre riff with great accompaniment....you get the idea!
Breaking Cycles it’s all about the drumming and overall precision
In their song Pray, at 4:40 they drop a fucking world breaker riff that shakes the damn walls, and its literally just 000000-000000-000000 On repeat. thats it. its literally just an open cord melody that a beginner level guitarist could play. But omfg does it work.
It's the heaviest matter of the universe...
This music is how I would describe my mind...
Should have named this song Fenrir, because the song is pretty much Ragnarok from Fenrir's point of view. Fucking brilliant!!!
I guess "wolf" in this case could have two meanings then, huh?
2:33 \m/
First of all, you will eat all the pies!
HAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
DUDE NO
When you go from magma to this. Rip gojira.
Spurs456
in your mind it isn't memorable because it isn't technical and heavy like the other albums. As previously stated, Joe's and Mario's mother died during the making of Magma, and their feelings and emotions reflect through the simplistic, melancholic sound that Magma has.
The Shooting Star is an amazing song even though it's simple.
Just because it's softer and less chaotic doesn't mean it's worse.
I think Magma is better than say The Way Of All Flesh or From Mars To Sirius.
fight me.
Moreover, The Shooting Star is a really meaningful and moody song, it's not meant to be headbanged to.
Fuck off every gojira song is amazing don’t be a boob
Magma was disappointing compared to their other stuff. Only a few songs were good.
@Jimi Silva Worship of another? Nonsensical.
2:37 - 4:13 sounds like Space Time.
For sure
Yeah indeed
TheJimger could you get anymore abstract. Honestly... I actually want to know...
Gojira has a song called Space Time, listen to the second half and you'll get it.
The use of triplets is similar, but the melody is different.
Is it me, or near the end song reminds me of the last of the mohicans???!!!!
My thoughts exactly ^
Yannis Makridis 1oo%
es la verga gojira
Alan- Alan Guzman a hueso de res
Good guitarist fellows what effects have been used at the outro?
@Nagy Gábor Volume swell and reversing. The swell can be achieved with a volume pedal, but reversing is an engineering effect; i.e. post recording - in this instance both have been done with studio trickery :)
@JackMakesFilms There are pedals that actually do some reverse effects as well, I have one, I think it's the digital delay 7 by boss.. It doesn't sound nearly as good as this though, but if you find the right notes I'm sure you can somewhat emulate what they are doing here with a pedal.
best song ever
I'll try to give my best explanation of the lyrics, starting with the title of the song.
"Wolf down" means to devour something frantically, to eat nonstop. "( You / We ) Wolf down the Earth" means that we, humans, are destroying the Earth, the trademark idea of Gojira.
Every verse supports that, let's take for example the second one.
"Second step you eat all the creation,
Swallow the trees the lakes and all the valleys
Crush the moon, and drink the rivers flowing
Burning all that lives" meaning we are destroying everything, not just the planet. The animals, the plants, the landscape, even ourselves.
Moving on to "They teach you how to conquer and rule the world
The towers that you built so string, no man can touch
They tell you how to find and raise the fears
And let them grow inside of your heart they need no walls". They ( the other wolves, big corporate companies, people with power, etc.) teach us how to take over everything, "devouring it", The second line states that we close in, in ourselves. The Towers are the walls we put around ourselves, letting "no man" touch them. We are selfish, and we hide like a turtle in it's shell from people that want to do good. Moving on to the third line, they tell us things that make us afraid, leading us to destroy everything different ( Classic human nature. ), and continuing, "the fears grow inside of our hearts" , we pass them on to our children, friends, fellow humans, and for that reason "they need no walls". They don't need to be contained since we transmit them to everybody else.
"The buildings of our fathers
Crumbling in dark vibrations
Wolf down the one that made us all
No hope, you wolf down the earth"
We destroy what our parents changed and created, "The buildings of our fathers", they crumble down in dark vibrations, produced by us and all the evil we do to the planet. "( We ) Wolf down the one that made us all", meaning we destroy the one that made us, whether that is the Earth or God(s), that we don't stop at anything. And that's why there's no hope for us, because "( we ) Wolf down the Earth", we devour and destroy everything.
While this interpretation is valid, I believe there is a much more symbolic, and "pagan" for lack of a better word, reading that you've completely missed. I believe the song is about the reign of Saturn, kronos, ba'al, whose' paradigm we are living under at the moment. This is buttressed by the statement "in the womb, the new blood", which portends the Jupiter/Zues, the son of Saturn/Kronos, who is smuggled away before he can be devoured, and goes on to overthrow his fathers reign and everything associated with it ushering in a new Solar cycle.
Even more evidence for my interpretation can be found in songs like Mouth of Kala, the Hindu god of time[Saturn and Kronos where associated with Time as well, it is where Kronos name is derived], also known to eat children. So they are well aware of Aryan religious themes. The whole album of Mars to Sirius is about Aryan spirituality as well, Sirius being an astrological reference to the Solar, and the Flying Whales in the sky, "from the sky", being a figurative reference to the old solar Gods.
A sickness of the Mind. Uncontrolled, untempered.
Holy shit your right
Thanks man
I think they use both the allegory of wolfing down something as over indulging on recourses like deforestation, mineral depletion and over fishing. And the mythical creature Fenrir who’s job it is too devour the earth.
You really fucked the lyrics on this song. I implore you to fix it!
is it just me or does this sound just like a song morbid angle would write?
+lkopbia Morbid Angle? And yes it does sound a little like Morbid Angel.
That slow grinding death metal vibe coming from morbid angel
Sends chills every time.
Is there a chance you face the void inside...
