Gilmour, David - Near The End Lyrics

And when you feel you're near the end
Will you just turn it over and start again
Is there a stirring in your heart
As the time comes when we will have to part?

And when you feel you're near the end
And there's a stranger where once was a friend
And you are left without a word
Only the whispers that you've overheard

Standing in silence, holding my breath
Disconnected and dry
And though I'm certain that there's nothing left
To hold on to, to give or to try
Some things never change, no don't ever change
And I'm feeling the cold
Thinking that we're getting older and wiser
When we're just getting old

And when you feel you're near the end
And what once burned so bright is growing dim?
And when you see what's been achieved
Is there a feeling that you've been deceived?

Gilmour, David Near The End Comments
  1. O.... H....

I usually don't listen to about face ... but every year or two I come back to it. And this is probably one of the best album endings ever …

  2. A.... ....

Gilmore only releases a solo album every ten years. I am so glad its almost 2020 so we might get another one soon. I just hope he lives to 100 so we get a few more. This is the prototype for what would be released in his future release "On an Island". A great song.

  3. J.... M....

First record I wore out listening to one song, Gilmore is the best

  14. I.... M....

As a Pink Floyd fan I thought I’d heard every song, but yesterday was the first time I heard this song and WOW! I am once again blown away by the mind of Gilmour. Words that make you want to read them and analyze them, accompanied by a melody that makes you feel them, and an acoustic solo that transitions into an electric solo that just hugs you. It’s not a crazy rapid solo, it’s a simple yet heart felt solo that is pure magic. If tears are shed it’s not of sadness but of a deep connection and understanding of the musics’ message. My goodness I’ve been missing out all these years!!!

  15. B.... P....

Great song...…… to be played on my B-Day year after year until the end!! Thank You Mr. Gilmour again again again on this elegant song!!

  16. h.... b....

hermoso beatiful el otro genio de pink floyd y gran guitarrista

  17. A.... ....

Sounds like this could (and should) have been the way to end The Wall rather than that cop-out "isn't this where..." endless loop.

  18. L.... B....

    thank you love it

  19. B.... J....

    👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

  20. L.... S....

    Masterpiece!

  21. o.... ....

Great tune! That outro solo is so sweet and adds a GREAT touch as well, Superb*!

  22. m.... g....

".....Thumbs down ??? are you F$#@%& cking kidding me ? Mindless dweeb ! Must have been a child, got to the laptop when mommy wasn't looking ! Thumbs down my ass ! None of Pink Floyd and associated group members and participants would ever possibly get a thumbs down,.....You would need a check-up from the neck-up if you gave a thumbs down to D.G. !!!"

  23. J.... B....

Absolutely love Dave's early solo work, after the Floyd!!! The first two in particular are shear perfection!! I couldn't listen to them enough. Totally spoke to me. A shame some people obviously just DONT GET IT!! Too bad.

  24. c.... g....

    a classic.

  25. T.... S....

I remember seeing this show at Pine Knob in Michigan before I had a full appreciation of this man. One of my all time favorites. Beautiful song.

  26. J.... G....

The last two minutes of this song are, for me, the melancholy reminder of what Pink Floyd could have become in an alternate universe where Gilmour, Waters, and Wright got beyond their differences and continued creating. These two minutes are some of the finest, most beautiful musical moments in the whole Floyd & Beyond canon.

  28. J.... B....

This album and David Gilmour David Gilmour helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life. So much better than The Pros and Cons Of Hitchhiking by Roger Waters. Love this song in particular! Every song on both of his early albums apart from Pink Floyd to me are spectacular. Such a fantastic song writer!!

    J.... B....

Clapton is killer on that album though.

  29. a.... m....

Is there a feeling that you've been deceived? this is the issue that is all that you have lived and told you or what have you done your dreams you projectings, or your life will be a decieve?is that we live in immensly decive?we will going to find out only with the death that is a wonderfull and pure truth.

  30. D.... B....

I played this album until the grooves wore out. And this is still my favorite song. Thinking that we're getting older and wiser, when we're just getting old. David's music and lyrics will live on forever.

    D.... B....

Did the grooves really wear out? How many times do you have to play a vinyl for the grooves to wear out? You are speaking metaphorically, surely? You jest my dear fellow.

  31. t.... a....

Outstanding and sublime. He sits in our hearts and drives us crazy. Salute maestro. Long live David Gilmour.

  32. W.... H....

I wish I had the words. David has the words. Always did. Listen now or....

  33. V.... T....

6 pouces négatifs pour 784 c'est plutôt pas mal ! Bonne moyenne

  34. T.... S....

Love the beautiful montage near the end, where he connects the acoustic to the electric... Wicked stuff.

  35. J.... F....

Great album but Gilmour seems to want to forget it. I've never heard any of the songs played by him ever live on any of the various live shows that have turned up online.

    J.... F....

Joe F He has said in interviews that it sounds "too 80's".

  36. A.... 2....

almost the same guitar as Pros and Cons of Roger :) combined with lyrics, You Know I'm Right, and the album cover, it's almost like Dave's asking Roger to reconsider his stance. but Roger couldn't be bothered and flushed it all down the shitter the following year.

  37. S.... W....

    These LYRIC'S .................WOAHHHH!

    S.... W....

did I not mention brilliant composition also.

  38. S.... L....

Sammiedian Cananua I’m 16 and I love Pink Floyd and David Gilmour (and the other guys too). Don’t gatekeep such amazing music, do you really want for good music to only be relevant to people in your generation (whatever generation that may be)? You know who disliked this video? Idiots. Simple as that. The age of the idiots is irrelevant.

  62. S.... ....

One of his best solos, IMHO...

    S.... ....

+Sole2007 For me it's the best. And the transition from a semi acoustic to an electric is just too beautiful! The last solo I'd want to listen to before I go.

    S.... ....

It's everything Gilmourean, but perhaps his fiery and funky sides, and coupled with a beautiful sequence fade out.

    S.... ....

David, a league unto himself!! Beautiful stuff here!! Listen and learn young guys!!!

  63. D.... S....
